Jubilee listened to the music, catchy tune getting her attention. She tapped her fingers on the coverlet on Rogue's bed in rhythm with the music, smiling slightly. Good song.
And then Rogue asked the question she'd been dreading.
Her smile faded.
"We...said things that shouldnt've been said. It got a little outta hand..."
And that's an understatement.

Sighing, Rogue began to get a little frusterated with all the secrets her new friends seemed to have that they liked to hide from her... Just her.
"Jubilee. Ah could have heard yal fightin' from all the way across the base. That's no where close t' bein' a little outta hand." Dunking a couple more chips, she ate one at a time and then gave Jubilee a solemn stare, "It's gonna keep buggin' ya until ya tell someone, Jubes. An' even if ya don't say anythin' directly, if ya get the jist out, you'll feel bettah."
Tilting her head to the side, she continued, "An' don't say you're fine, cause you're not. Ah've seen faces lahke yours soooo many tahmes, an' Ah think Ah can recognise someone with a lot of troubling thoughts on their mahnd when Ah see one."
Offering the salsa to Jubilee if she wanted some, Rogue held it out to her, "Ya don't have t' be too specific, but honestly, Jubilee... Ah am worried about ya. It's obvious he hurt ya real bad, an' ya should talk t' someone about it."
Raising an eyebrow, expectantly, she finished her speech, "So spill."

Jubilee winced.
"We were that loud, huh?"
She picked at the cover on Rogue's bed, before sitting up and folding her legs beneath her. She took a chip and dunked it in the salsa, playing for time as she ate. Trying to think and consider how much she could say and how much she would have to skirt around. She pulled her knees into her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs, resting her head on the tops of her knees as she let her hair fall across her face. A fragile shield to hide her eyes.
"Lately, everything's been so messed up...I'm not even sure where to start..."
Once she started talking, Jubilee could feel the relief that came with unburdening oneself to someone who cared a little hit her. She'd been trying to carry both her problems and some of Gambit's own and it was just about crushing her.
"He was...y'know, how some guys get when they just have to punch something, even if that something is a brickwall and they break their hands on it? Yeah, kinda like that with one of the punching bags. We talked for a bit, and then I said something about the why he was doing it, and he snarked back at me. Which I shrugged off, because he's got a hell lot of bad things going on at the moment. I just wanted to check over his hands...make sure that he hadn't hurt himself that badly..."
She breathed in deeply, holding back tears.
"I just..."

"Wanted t' make sure he was okay."
Rogue nodded, finishing the girl's sentence for her, "Yeah, sweetheart... Ah understand." Seeing tears forming in Jubilee's eyes, Rogue lifted a gloved hand and took Jubilee's in her own gloved one.
Swallowing harshly, she bit her bottom lip, thinking things over, "He wasn't mad at you, hun..."
Reviewing the memories that flashed in her mind, she sighed deeply, wishing she could change the past and come into the fight sooner to save the girl from her emotional travisty. "Ah promise..." she faded off, knowing darn well it was her that he was truely upset with.
But why? Ah don't understand!
"So what happened aftah that? He didn't hit you did he?" she asked, her brow furrowed.

Jubilee curled her fingers around Rogue's glove shielded ones thankfully.
"No...he was mad at me. I said...things I shouldn't have."
“Y’ know not’in’. Y’ t’ink I don’ see it? Every time y’ look at me, y’ t’ink I don’ know dat y’ wish I was someone else?”<br> "I *know* he's never going to come back! I did, at first, wish you would just disappear so he would come back."
Never should have said that. Never. No matter how much it was the truth.
"We both did. When I'm angry, I don't think what I'm saying through that carefully. No one does. I was angry because he has this thing where everything is his fault and he *has* to be punished for it, even if he has to take it out on himself. That's just what it started with. Things between me and Remy have gotten..a little tense lately, and mostly it's my fault."
She put her hands over her eyes, pressing the heels in to hold back the tears.
"He asked me what I wanted. I said I didn't know. Then he kissed me."

Sitting silently as Jubilee ranted on, Rogue nodded here and there, agreeing with the girl whether she understood or not. Meanwhile, she had reached down and gotten out her cooler, filling a cup and taking a sip of it to cool her nerves. However, it was the last few words that caught most of her attention, causing her to choke on the drink she had almost swallowed.
"He asked me what I wanted. I said I didn't know. Then he kissed me."
Almost dropping her glass, Rogue stared wide-eyed at the girl before her. Of all things, this was not what she expected. Her jaw dropping, Anna bit down on the harsh words that she wanted to holler to the world, settling instead for letting out a loud scream, half muffled through gritted teeth. Her eyes flashing angrily, she couldn't believe how the man could treat women like he did.
"He did WHAT?!" she said, a little more harshly than she had mean to.
That arrogant... how could he!? An' aftah playin' with her mahnd, he desides he wants t' go and spill what's left of his heart out t' me!? If he thought he was gonna get anywhere aftah that, he's dead wrong.
"That... that... Grrrrrrrrr!" Rogue hit a nearby area of the matress in frusteration, locking the many curses behind sealed lips. "How can he treat people lahke this!?"

Jubilee grabbed Rogue's hands, looking desperate and unhappy.
"Rogue, it wasn't all his fault. A couple of nights ago...I kissed *him*. It was stupid, I knew it was stupid when I did it but I was drunk and I wasn't thinking straight. He was only trying to help me then...but today, it just, he...besides, I kneed him in the groin. I think that makes the two of us even on that score, don't you?"
She breathed in deeply in an effort to keep herself calm, eyes fixed on Rogue's.
"The two of us don't work that way, y'know, with the romance. He's just...he's like my best *friend*, and I don't know what I'm s'posed to do without him and I've messed everything up because I always have to *know* things, and I don't know what to do to make everything right again!"

Calming down a little, Rogue used one hand to pour herself another glass, downing it quickly, her thoughts drowing in the cool liquor. Sighing deeply, she exhaled and squeezed Jubilee's other hand lightly, "Al'righ'... So Ah won't completely mangle him next tahme Ah see him..."
Rogue shook her head, "No, Jubilee, ya have a right t' be curious... God know's Ah'd really lahke t' know what was goin' on around here... An' it's so obvious Ah'm missin' somethin'!"
Finishing off the last glass, she looked mournfully at the bottle, "That jerk, though... Why are ya so loyal t' him? If a man treated me lahke that, he'd be outtah mah door jus' as fast as Ah could get him!"
Ah have no tolerance for men... Maybe mah expectations are too high... The scary thing is, before this ordeal, the Cajun reached most of them.

"I owe him *everything*, Rogue. My life, my place here, *everything* that I am. It's not just something I can ignore or toss away, even if he's acting whacked out at the moment. Understatement of the century, I know. He;s usually a lot more...sane."
Jubilee could have laughed if she didn't feel so much like crying.
"If it was anybody else but him...then I could."
Except it isn't him, not really. But I *still* owe and I don't think that I'll ever stop feeling indebted. No matter what he does to me.
"I threw you at him, after he said that he was only good enough for me when I was drunk. Asked him if he only tried that because he couldn't touch you, so I was just there and available. He said I didn't know nothing about you, about what you mean to him and what's going on between the two of you. That maybe the reason he turned me down the other night was because he *respected* me too much to do that when he couldn't give more then a tumble between the sheets. Because of you."
Jubilee could feel her nails digging into the cloth of Rogue's glove and consciously let go.
"I think he loves you."

Her jaw dropping mildly as Jubilee went off on her long-winded explaination, Rogue gulped back a onslaught of emotions, keeping them pinned behind the walls of her mind. Lowering her head, she made eye-contact with her midnight-blue comforter, staring in disbelief as the girl ranted on. Why do people keep sayin' this!? When did Ah evah meet him before? Where are all these comments coming from? And why, in tarnation, do Ah have all these memories that ain't mahne!?
Frusterated to no end, Anna heard Jubilee fade off, letting go of the woman's hand. Peering down at the cloth, she noted nailmarks where the cloth had once been smooth, thoughts running through her head, Gambit said what? When was this? "A tumble..." Oh God. She asked him t'... Holy Mother-Mary! This is soo screwed up. Some guy's fallin' head-ovah-heels for me, an' Ah can't do so much as remember him!
Groaning, she spoke, "Funny thing is, sugah... Ah don't know nothin' about what's goin' on between us two either..."
Feeling very confused, a headache pounding in her temples, she strangely found the courage to lift her head up once more and look at Jubilee. Questions blaring in her mind, Rogue reached out for the cooler again, pouring herself another glass and drinking it down.
"He... he loves me?" she repeated quietly. "But, he doesn't even know me."

Jubilee's fingers crackled with sparks and she clasped her hands together, putting them in her lap. She bit down on her lip hard as she looked at Rogue.
You don't understand what's going on? I know more about what's going on then you do and I still don't understand it.
"I don't know 'xactly why, but I'm pretty sure he does. Maybe he thinks he knows enough?"

Clenching her fist, she grimaced, her tone lower and more tired than it had been in a while, "Enough. Enough? Ya can't know enough in just a day or two. That just ain't possible. It's stuff from the movies, not the lives we live in."
Resting a reassuring hand on Jubilee's shoulder as she saw the sparks fly from the young girl's hand, she handed her another chocolate bar, tossing her anger aside for concern as she watched her new friend. Things shouldn't be this hard... Ah wish Ah could help her... but so far, Ah still haven't seen so much about how this related to her as much as...
She swallowed, Me.
Realization that this young lady's pain was caused by her own actions, Anna felt a pang of guilt and pity, tears welling up in her eyes as she finished her glass, her mind beginning to cloud up.
"Jubilee... Ah'm sorry... Ah really am. Ah feel lahke Ah should fix it, but I probably jus' made everythin' worse..."

Jubilee picked up the chocolate, sparks dying away as she got control over herself again. She peeled back the wrapper and started to eat the candy bar slowly, shaking her head slightly as Rogue started to blame herself.
"It's not your fault at all, Rogue. This...the fight was building up before you even got here," the younger girl admitted in a miserable voice.
"Maybe it cleared the air a little, but I doubt it. Anyway, he'll go out and get absolutely wasted, and then he'll come back tomorrow morning with a hangover. Probably a few bruises as well, because he'll probably pick a fight. And me? I'll just...consume everything vaguely chocolate in the entire base."
Then she looked up at Rogue and saw the welling tears. Jubilee looked a little panicked.
"Don't cry, please don't cry. It's not your fault, really it isn't, Anna!"

Shaking her head, Anna let out a soft laugh at Jubilee's mention of chocolate, "Heh... lovely thing: fast metabolism."
Fighting back the tears, she managed to keep them behind her lashes, shutting her eyes for a brief moment. "Nah, sugah... Ah'll be okay... At least Ah don't feel so guiltly knowin' that there's someone out there that drinks more than me..." she chanced a glance at the cooler, resisting the urge to pour more into her glass. ...an' that Ah ain't the only one that looses mah tempah.
Not a good idea. You've got a poundin' headache already... It wouldn't be smart. Besides, if ya wanna remembah any of this in the mornin', ya'd bettah keep what brain cells ya got before ya get more confused. Resting her elbows on her knees, she bent over her lap, running her gloved hands through her hair as she stared down at her folded legs and the comforter beneath.
"Ah feel terrible though... Ya weren't the only one that said things regret-worthy."

"Yeah, I...kinda heard," Jubilee admitted softly.
"Well, once he gets over the hangover he's *bound* to have, maybe we can talk to him."
He needs to *tell* her...I want to, and I can't. She'd get it, I know she would. And it'd be better if we all knew anyway. There are things going on here...things that need to be said, and brought out into the open or we're all gonna go crazy from the secrets.
