Christine grabbed the stack of letters that lay on the table, and rustled through them. “Bills, bills, grant information, more grant information, love letters from Sean, and,” her voice trailed off, her eyes widening at the sight of what she held in her hand. “God damn it, I told Gabriel to go to hell! And he insists on mailing me. Damn him to the seventh circle,” she snarled, wishing he was there just so she could lash into him properly.
“Dear Lady Christine MacTaggart,” she read aloud to herself. “Blah, blah, blah. You are blah, blah, and blah. Blah, blah, blah,” she muttered darkly. “I eagerly await your response in the regards to the terms of this, my tenth marriage proposal. Very truly yours, Lord Gabriel Pembroke.”
She crumpled the letter into a ball, and held it tightly in her hand, willing the flames to come out and turn the letter to ash. “How many times do I have to tell that bassa that I’m not bloody interested in him!? I’m in love with a wonderful man, granted he looks different, but at least he doesn’t see me as a notch on his belt. I’m the sixth woman Gabriel’s tried to court!”
OOC: She's Lady Christine because her mother is Lady Moira (Kinross) MacTaggart. OOC2: TAG!

"Gabby's being a pain again?" Rahne asked in an amused voice, leaning against the wall as she watched her foster sister.
"Good tae see some things just dinnae change. Obviously, no matter what reality he's in Gabriel Pembroke will be a womanising, flirting, noxious pain. Though, he didn't try to court me. I just got to watch and laugh."

"When is Gabby *not* being a pain?" Christine asked, crossing her arms and pouting. "He wants to marry me because of the title, that's it," she huffed. "You have no idea how much I want to turn him into a black hamster and then feed him to that wretched yappy thing that he owns. What did he call that poor dog? Peaches?"
She shuddered as she recalled the dog in question - more then half wind-up toy then real dog and uglier then hell.

"And since I cannae recieve the title because I'm fostered, he never came after me," Rahne said in a teasing voice.
"As the Yanks would say...sucks to be you, Christine. Speaking of dogs, I want tae go wolf later and go fer a run. Think you could manage tae keep Kyle away? I dinnae fancy dying because he has very good reasons not tae like dogs."

She glanced up at the ceiling and cursed whatever deity was listening that put that pest in her life. She tilted her head and looked at Rahne. "Aye, I can try."

"Thanks," Rahne said.
"How...is he?"

"From what I can get? Still scared. He doesn't know what to make of here," she said, looking concerned. "I'm wondering if we did the right thing in bringing him. I know, I know, but what if he tries to hurt someone? He's my responsibility..."

"Would ye rather have left him?" Rahne asked quietly.
Caged, chained, hurting...degraded until there was nothing left of the man, of the *boy* he had been until there was nothing left but an animal inside a human looking skin.

"No, sis, I wouldn't have. I just... I just have to look out for everyone, you know. Team leader and what not," she said, shaking her head. "God, by the time this adventure's over... I'll probably out-Scott Scott."

"Probably better tae have him where we can keep an eye on him," Rahne said, sounding regretful even as she knew it was good common sense.
"If he's here...then he isn't out *there*. With people far less able tae protect themselves then we are. And I don't think anyone can out-Scott Scott."

Christine nodded and looked at her sister. "Rahne, what's a good lady like way of saying "Screw you, Pembroke. I'm not marrying you even if you were the last availible male on earth?"

"I don't think there is a lady-like way of doing it that he would understand," Rahne said.
"I think you're stuck. At least until he finds someone else."

"I wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy," Christine said, shuddering. "He's a boil on the butt of humanity." She sighed. "Maybe I should stop being a lady and just tell him straight out, think that would work?"

"Probably not," Rahne said.
"Inbreeding tends to bring out the stupid genes."

"You have a point there," Christine said, sitting down with a sigh. "Somehow, I wish he'd end up as a person eligble for the Darwin award." She sighed again. "It could be worse, it could be his younger brother Phillip. That family has done way too much inbreeding."
