"Whoa there, dude," Lorna protested quickly. Though they had only just met, Jamie felt perfectly fine with teasing and playing around with her. He folded his arms and lifted his brows as he waited for her to back out of the deal. "Back up. Catering was never part of the deal. Cooking does not equal catering to, and vice versa."
"Well," he said with a slight shrug, "if you're starting to have second thoughts..."
While he waited for her answer, his multiples gathered up the gear anyway.

"Well," he said with a slight shrug, "if you're starting to have second thoughts..."
Of course, Jamie had absolutely no way of knowing this, but one thing that drove Lorna absolutely crazy was a challenge. She turned into a pitbull, refusing to back down. It was like a double-dog-dare, to her, and backing out just wasn't an option.
"No way," she scoffed with a shake of her head. Tucking her hair behind her ear, she watched as her teammates helped Jamie's teammates gather up the equipment. Lorna flashed Jamie a cocky smirk. "You're gonna get your collective ass kicked. So if you want to add catering to the winner's every whim to the arrangement, I'm good with that."

No sooner was Lorna finished with her taunt than Jamie was slapping a baseball cap down on her thick green hair. "Okay then," he said as they headed toward the door. Welcome to Muir Island. Let's play ball."
About halfway down the hall one of the multiples mentioned off hand that there were no uniforms and well, most of the players looked alike. "Guess we could do shirts and skins," another one piped up hopefully.
All eyes went to Lorna.
All except for Jamie's. He was too busy pretending he wasn't red in the face.

(Oh man... I'm so sorry I've been slacking so bad! I'll be better, I promise!)
Lorna cast a mock evil eye Jamie's way as he plopped a baseball cap down on her head. "Hey, paws off the merchandise," she warned playfully. He was cute. He could paw her a bit if he wanted.
She quickly took the hat off, gripped her hair in a ponytail, and put the cap back on, pulling her long hair out the hole in the back. She needed to keep it out of her face somehow, right?
"Okay then," he said as they headed toward the door. Welcome to Muir Island. Let's play ball."
Lorna had completely lost track of which Jamies were on her team, and which were on Jamie's. Dammit. Apparently that thought occurred to the others, as well, who pointed it out to the rest of them.
"Guess we could do shirts and skins," another one piped up hopefully.
It was timed so perfectly that Lorna found it impossible to swallow her laughter when all the identical eyes in the hallway focused on her - at exactly the same moment.
"In your dreams," she scoffed. "Unless, of course, you're volunteering to be skins, then sure." Hmmm, being surrounded by 7 cute, shirtless guys? Yeah, she could think of worse ways to spend an afternoon. "But only one team's on the field at a time, so I think we'd be able to figure it out even if we all stayed fully clothed."

(no worries, I know it happens to me once in awhile too)
If Jamie was hoping that the whole shirts vs. skins comment was going to slide by the wayside, he was horribly misled. Though his eyes were fixed solidly ahead, he could feel her looking at him. It was unsettling.
Luckily there was laughtere mingled in with her words when she spoke.
"In your dreams," she scoffed. "Unless, of course, you're volunteering to be skins, then sure." She then proceeded to point out the obvious. "But only one team's on the field at a time, so I think we'd be able to figure it out even if we all stayed fully clothed."
"So I guess pantsless is out of the question," one multiple whispered to Jamie under the ruckus of them walking down the hall. Jamie shot him a warning glance.
He changed the subject instead. "Should we send the teams out to warm up while we get a quick snack?"

She could hear lowered voices from somewhere behind her, and Lorna figured it was probably for the best that she hadn't heard what was said. She was learning, quickly, that Jamie and his... copies were trouble. Fun, definitely, but trouble.
"Should we send the teams out to warm up while we get a quick snack?"
Lorna glanced over at him and flicked the brim of her cap back so she could see Jamie more clearly. A green eyebrow arched questioningly. "That wouldn't be very fair, would it? Us in here taking it easy and stuffing our faces, while they're outside getting ready for the game?"

"That wouldn't be very fair, would it? Us in here taking it easy and stuffing our faces, while they're outside getting ready for the game?"
Jamie looked at her like she was just not getting it. Or maybe he wasn't. Either way. Then he shook his head softly as he put a guiding arm around her shoulder and steered her to the wayside while the troops went outside to warm up.
"Let me try and explain this to you," he said confidentially after pulling her aside and cornering her up against the wall. He slapped one open palm up on the wall beside her head as he leaned in so he could speak quietly enough to not be overheard.
"We don't even actually have to play the game," he said with a smile and a knowing lift of the brows. Another arm on her shoulder turned her and positioned her slightly in front of him where he could lean in and let her know his master plan...that he just thought of.
But first he let her watch the gaggle of multiples all stretching out and warming up with some light tosses. They were already broken up into teams, and Jamie knew that impatience would win out soon enough and the game would begin without them.
"We let them battle it out, and we can disappear somewhere to enjoy a nice cream sundae."

Why was Jamie looking at her like she was a few cookies short of a dozen? She was just trying to be considerate.
Of course, maybe that was where she'd gone wrong. That'd teach her.
He put his arm around her, and steered her away from the others.
"Let me try and explain this to you," he said confidentially after pulling her aside and cornering her up against the wall.
Lorna arched an eyebrow at him and watched him as he kept her against the wall by putting his hand beside her head and leaning in. If she didn't know better, she'd think he was trying to make a move.
"Enlighten me," she requested.
"We don't even actually have to play the game," he said with a smile and a knowing lift of the brows.
Her eyes widened slightly and her heart sped up as he moved in closer. What the hell...? Was he trying to make a move? Or was personal space a foreign concept to him? But then he just wrapped his arm around her shoulders and moved behind her slightly. She let out a breath she hadn't even been aware she'd been holding.
Lorna watched as the other Jamies got ready to play. Clearly, they didn't care that she and Jamie weren't among them.
Huh.
"We let them battle it out, and we can disappear somewhere to enjoy a nice cream sundae."
And he'd just said the magic words. Lorna turned and grinned at Jamie, her eyes lit up. "Deal. Take me to your ice cream."

This was working out better than planned. Hey, who was he kidding? Jamie Madrox really didn't do the whole 'planning' thing very often or very well for that matter. This one just sort of came together at the end beautifully.
He stood there with a patient hand on her shoulder while she watched the multiples tossing the ball around and taking practice swings on the makeshift field. It didn't take Lorna too long to ponder it before she turned to him with a sly grin.
"Deal. Take me to your ice cream."
Like a true gentleman, he stepped aside and swept his arms out down the hallway in the opposite direction. "Right this way," he intoned, and then fell in step beside her as they made their way to the kitchen.
"We gotta move quick though...in case they're onto us." Despite his inadequacy to pull together an adequate plan, Jamie felt one coming on. "I say we scoop up and head off to someplace less likely to be overrun by...well, me."
Jamie grinned at her.
"Is anyone going to notice you're gone and send out a search party?"

Lorna grinned at the way Jamie played the role of gentleman, sweeping his arm forward to indicate she should go ahead. "Right this way," he intoned, and then fell in step beside her as they made their way to the kitchen. "We gotta move quick though...in case they're onto us."
"Now that I know what's at stake, I'll do whatever you think is best," she assured him with a grin. "Nobody with half a brain would try to come between me and ice cream."
It was scarily true, too. She'd been known to maim people for touching the container marked with her name.
"I say we scoop up and head off to someplace less likely to be overrun by...well, me."
Lorna laughed, and gently bumped her shoulder against his, hoping it wasn't hard enough to create another Jamie. "One of you at a time is plenty, thanks," she teased.
"Is anyone going to notice you're gone and send out a search party?"
"Doubtful," she told him with a shrug. "If the Prof wants to know where I am, he'll find me." Lorna tapped her temple and arched an eyebrow. She'd kill for that psychic power stuff. Being a walking magnet was nothing compared to being able to read peoples' minds.
"What about you, though?" Lorna asked. "Were you working on anything important in your lab before I interrupted?"
