Christine wandered the streets of the city, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand, trying to rid them of tears. She just walked the streets, looking for a bar that was far enough away from the school - but close enough that she could walk back.
Her eyes spotted The Purple Grasshopper and she slipped in. She sat down at the counter. "Whatever's your strongest tonight," she whispered brokenly. "I don't care what it is."
Lyle nodded and walked to the back and started to work on the order. He could tell something was wrong.
She sniffled softly and absently changed her school clothes into a white blouse, light blue dressy pants and a light blue jacket.
She felt someone's hand on her shoulder and she looked up to see who touched her. OOC: tag. Altho, it would be nice to have say... Mastermind find me... *hintbloodyhint*

OOC: To wish for someone like Mastermind to join you in a bar is to hope for a casual conversation over drinks with Jack the Ripper. But who am I to interfere...?
"Beggin' your pardon, miss.", the man said to her gently in a low, quiet voice that wasn't much more than a whisper. "Bit of an oaf, I nearly took a fall." He sounded as if he might be English, and his hand was soft, not the kind whose owner is accustomed to hard labor. "But you have saved me", he said with a warmth in his tone.
He bent close to her, spoke just inches from her ear as his hand remained on her opposite shoulder. Tentatively, she turned enough to see his face.
His eyes - eyes of a warm brown hue - never left hers as a lock of his auburn hair threatened to hide them from her view. He smiled.
Those eyes. They seemed to look right through her, and she was noticeably startled.
The man was striking. His face was strong and ruggedly handsome and though he looked as if he needed a shave he.... reminded her of someone. Just who she could not say.
But his eyes.... Eyes of deepest...blue? She could barely look away.
"I hope that in my clumsiness I did not cause you any harm or distress....", he said softly.

'Blue? I thought they were brown?' she thought. "No," she sniffled. "No harm." Tears still fell down her cheeks as she thought about her father, Logan, who had foolishly gone on a mission and gotten himself killed.
'I don't like him,' Phoenix piped up.
'You don't like anyone.'
'Not true,' Phoenix countered. 'I like a few people but this one scares me.'
"Have we met? You seem familiar.." Christine said quietly.

"Are you certain?", he said with concern in his voice. His eyes seemed to look right through her.
"It appears as though I've upset you", he continued with his steady gaze and his quiet voice.
"Allow me to make amends by buying you a drink." His tone said that it was a request, and his eyebrows raised in exaggerated pleading. The effect was both slightly humorous and a trifle charming. The look in his eyes remained haunting....so intense. He remained so close to her that she could concentrate on little else.

"I'm sure," she said quietly. "The man who raised me as his daughter died just recently. He made a promise that he couldn't keep it seems..."
She paused and smiled slightly. "Sure," she answered him softly. She never had a guy buy a drink for her that she didn't know.

Motioning to the bartender to make the necessary preparations, he took a seat next to hers.
"Raised you?", he asked quietly. " Does that mean he was not your real father?" He already knew much of her story. This was something recent. Outwardly, he looked like someone who solemnly expressed interest and consolation in her sorrow. Inwardly, the man could have cheered at this new vulnerability. Had his abilities not made the point moot he would have had difficulty concealing his glee.

"Not my biological. He died before I was born," Christine softly. "Logan, he was the one that raised me since I was ten. He found me shortly after I went catatonic."
She glanced at him, and blushed when she saw him sitting rather close. He seemed increasingly familiar. 'I have seen him before - I'm sure of it...'

"Pardon my insensitivity", the man said. "Here you are telling me about yourself and I never even told you my name."
"I'm Jason", he said.
As he spoke, her world began to spin - slowly at first, and then faster and faster until it spun out of control. She heard his introduction echo faraway as if from the end of a long tunnel. The swirling colors nearly made her sick and she closed her eyes.
When she opened them again she stood in the middle of an unfamiliar street. Passersby made their way going on about their business. Their clothing was from a different time. Horses drew carriages this way and that down the narrow cobblestone streets. In confusion, she stepped off of the street in order to avoid being run down.

Christine was confused to say the least. She clutched her ivory cloak close and wandered the streets, trying to see if there was a familiar face in this mixed up world. She continued walking, finding herself somewhat at ease in this strange world for the moment.
However, ease slowly gave way to dread as she found herself wandering a particularly dark alleyway.

As she walked and thought absently about what had happened, she suddenly realized that the street she was on had changed. She had made a turn somewhere and she found herself on a darkened block without the bustle of the one she had left. In fact, the street was empty. Realizing her mistake she turned to retrace her steps.
And froze.
In the darkness, at the sides of the street she could just make out...shapes. A glint of eyes in the darkness. Whispers all around. A hint of movement behind a trash bin. She was being followed...stalked. She caught her breath - and in the silence her breathing and her heartbeat was all she could hear except a gust of wind and the chatter of a few leaves on the darkened cobblestone street. Above, the moon hung low and bright, casting a pale blue light against the darkness that lay before her.

Christine hurried down the pathway - her footsteps clicking hurriedly as she ran down the alley. She kept glancing over her shoulders, first her right, then her left. She could feel her heart race in fear - someone *was* following her.
'Have to keep moving,' she thought, slowly breaking into a run, her heels clicking as she ran. Her heart was racing and her breathing was coming in short quick pants. She was terrified.

OOC: First, let me say that you look *smashing* in those short quick pants. *Evil laughter*
The shadows pressed inward, the road seemed to split into narrow alleyways winding off this way and that into blackness. Pools of water collected on the dampened street, reflecting the pale light of the moon which loomed large and oppressive above but did nothing to illuminate the blackness that surrounded her. She suddenly felt closed in - as if the buildings somehow inched closer and the moon threatened to fall in and blot out the sky.
From the sidewalk beyond the pale blue light, she heard a soft scrape. Was it real or imagined? A leaf blown about by the wind? The nails of some vermin watching her from the shadows? Off to her right was a glint of light. Was it a fencepost? Her imagination? The sparkle in the eyes of something wicked and horrible?
Behind her she heard a shuffle and a footstep. She turned to look but could pick nothing out of the darkness but a shifting twist of shadow. Turning away, she quickened her step, moving briskly in the opposite direction of the sound.
With each of her steps, she heard another - slightly delayed and matching her pace. Was it an echo? Or was she really being followed? Was she just imagining things or was something chasing her?
She stopped suddenly. And the sound following her stopped as well. But was it soon enough? Was she sure there was no one there...? Her heartbeat pounded in her ears. She was hopelessly lost.

OOC: Pervert Christine continued to run, trying to find something that looked familiar. There had to be something - someone who she knew or seemed to know. She tripped and landed in a puddle of water, dampening her outfit. She stumbled to her feet, only to fall again as she had sprained her ankle when she had fell before. She felt something or someone grab her ankle.

OOC: Yes? ;D
"Please, let me help you", said a soft, familiar voice as she looked up and found herself staring into the face of the man she had spoken with in the bar. Only this version of the man had shoulder length hair, tied back with a gray ribbon. Was she hallucinating? He smiled and helped her up, gently brushing debris and bits of dirt from her clothes. His face was filled with kindness, as his eyes - those same burning eyes - looked at her with such...intensity. She found it hard to look away.
She became aware of horses drawing carriages through the street. The activity of people bustling about in the orange afternoon sun of autumn. She glanced back at the way she came - a dark and foreboding alley. She thought she heard whispers coming out of the blackness, and even though it almost seemed to be withdrawing the sight and the memory of it sent a shiver down her spine.
"You look as if you've had a fright", he said quietly drawing her eyes back to his. His voice was soothing and warm. "Allow me to introduce myself", he said - gently leading her away and out into the light. One arm remained around her torso and he held her arm gently in his other hand. But she couldn't look away from his eyes.
"My name is Jason Wyngarde", he said with a captivating hint of a smile.
His words echoed and she found herself in blackness once again. She blinked a few times and it was light. Except that now she sat at the counter in the Purple Grasshopper. And a modern day version of Jason Wyngarde sat at her side.
He looked at her with concern. "Are you alright?"

"..my head.." she whispered softly. "I must have spaced out for a few moments." She held her head and blinked. "I'm sorry if I worried you."
