Well, I have yet to see canon evidence that Raptor, Larza, D.G. even exist. Or that Mrs. McTaggart (sp?) ever had a daughter named Christine.

Not to add any fuel to this particular fire or anything....
but I think it's worth mentioning that there is at least one precedent for a major capability shift in the X-Men canon - at least in the comics (which is ultimately the mother lode for all this anyway).
Emma Frost - The White Queen - went from being a simple telepath powers-wise to gaining the ability to become diamond-like and very hard (this ability cancels her others).
On the basis of that, I'd support Raptor's notion about mutation...and Larza's picking up another power.
However - Chris is also right. Empathy is not the power that would lead where that discussion went.
I was thinking about a new power, too. Something useful. What do you think of adding the mutant ability to belch the alphabet? Or the mutant ability to speak to vegetables? Type under water?
