It began like so many others, Kevin created their old familiar game. Pirate ships and blue skies and buried treasure.
On this day, however, he tried to gently push her to try something new. Though he loved her and he wanted her to be happy, Kevin grew weary of the same old thing.
She disagreed. She was accustomed to having everything her way and the very thought of something different outraged and upset her.
Christine took control of the game.
Kevin collapsed in his cell, blood streaming from his ears and from his nose.
In Moira’s lab and in upstate New York, simultaneous alarms announced the emergence and discovery of an awesomely powerful new mutant.
That mutant was nine-year-old Christine Caitrina MacTaggart.

Xavier rushed to Scotland. Moira, afraid that she might lose control of them, had sedated both of her children. She and Charles worked together to assess the situation.
Christine’s powers were off the charts. Like Kevin, she too was a powerful psionic. Her potential as a telepath might one day dwarf that of Xavier. The good news was that unlike her brother, at the level she exhibited them her powers did not require her to feed on the energy of other living beings.
What happened if her powers increased they didn’t know. As they discussed the possibilities, Christine joined them. She had shaken off the effects of the sedatives.
And she flew on her own power into the room.
But that wasn’t the worst of it.
She flew through the wall.

She was more than just a telepath, she was also a telekinetic. Her ability to move herself and other objects was impressive. Her control of her own body was beyond belief. It extended to the molecular level. To fly, she simply pushed herself from the ground. To move through obstacles, she moved her own molecules through the molecules of whatever held her. Xavier worked with Christine for several days, setting limits to the power she had access to. To learn control and avoid hurting anyone else, she would need to learn to use her powers over time. He planted overwhelming suggestions in her subconscious. He used her own abilities against her. Like psychic circuit breakers, whenever she began to tap into too much power her mind would turn inward on itself and shut her down. If she neared the limits he set for her, she got headaches. Severe migraines. If she reached or tried to pass them, it knocked her out. Moira worried what might happen without Xavier there to help, but Charles had responsibilities elsewhere. He had begun his school for mutants. The choice was all too obvious. They determined that the best thing for Christine was to move to New York.

The question of what was best for Kevin never seemed to occur to anyone. At least as far as Kevin was concerned. It was more important to keep the world safe from what he could do. Christine was dangerous. He, on the other hand, was a monster.
His powers had grown beyond the ability of his protective environment to contain him. Xavier had seen what happened in Christine’s mind. The fact that he hadn’t killed his sister was a bullet they felt they had dodged.
They doubled the energy fields that held him and fed him. Once again, Kevin was left with nothing but his loneliness.
Christine moved away all too soon.
And Kevin remembered one more thing that belonged to him. With nothing else to fill the emptiness he felt inside his mind it took him over.
Kevin MacTaggart grew quite familiar with his hate.
