Jacob let out a sigh. It was worth a shot.
"I'm sorry." He shrugged his shoulders. "I wish I could do more. In the morning, we'll ask the teachers if they can help. Right now, I think you should just relax and not worry about it. I'm told Professor Xavier's one of the most brilliant psychologists on the planet, and that's an exact quote, cause I would never use the word 'brilliant' in a conversation." Now that he didn't have to think anymore, he began to slip back into his comfort zone. And he had a really awkward question to ask her.
"Uh...you wanna watch some TV?"

"It's not your fault," she said, offering a faint smile. "Unless it was you who made me loose my memories," she added, her eyes twinkling a little at the attempt at humor - poor as it was. Well, it wasn't like she had a sense of humor (at least, she didn't remember if she did and if she did, what kind of sense of humor she had. For all she knew, she had the Brit dry wit kind).
As she mulled that over for a moment, she allowed her focus to drift before it snapped back at his question.
"Sure. TV sounds fine."

He somehow doubted that he'd caused her memory loss. His own mutant powers didn't quite run in that direction.
As soon as she said, "Sure," he leaned over to the coffee table, trying to reach the remote. He wound up having to lean quite far to grab it, almost falling off the ottoman in the process, but he picked it up and looked at it.
It looked like something from Star Trek. The thing had more buttons on it than some computer keyboards he'd seen.
"Uh..." He started with the button that said "Power."
That didn't work. A light on the DVD player went off. Coincidentally, a light on the remote under the "DVD" button also went on. Okay, so how did he make it make the TV lights go on?
He pushed the "TV" button. The TV did not turn on, but the light under the "TV" button did come on. He then pushed the "Power" Button. And the TV came on.
"What kind of voodoo magic is this?" He meant it jokingly, but only barely. It shouldn't take anyone more than two seconds to figure out how to turn a TV on. He used the time between the monitor turning on and the satellite turning on to turn down the volume.
So when the satellite came on, he was very, very surprised when all of a sudden, the volume wasn't down.
And someone had left it on the Playboy channel.
"Oh, God!" He quickly changed the channel, but it didn't help the noise. Or the fact that the other channel was HBO. What was seen could not be unseen. God damn ladies' night.
"Oh, come on!" He turned the TV off very quickly. Or at least, he really hoped he had turned the TV off. The monitor went dead. The DVR light came on. He felt that was a happy compromise.
"Okay, new plan...you got a plan?"

Her eyes were still wide from her brief exposure to the Playboy channel. "What in God's name was that?" she asked, her voice a mere squeak. Suddenly, she was feeling she was going to have something for confession (which struck her as slightly odd as she didn't recall being Catholic).
At his suggestion that they come up with something else, her stomach decided to grumble. "Um.. food sound good?"

He nodded quickly.
"Yeah, food sounds good." He stood up, set the remote down very gingerly, hoping to not have a repeat of the terrible thing he saw earlier, and then reached his hand out to help her up.

She shyly took the hand and stood up slowly. "thanks for the hand," she said quietly.

He grabbed her hand and helped her up.
"No problem," he said, shrugging. Then he looked quizzically around. "Now I just have to remember where the kitchen is."
