Given Name: Fred J. Dukes
Codename: The Blob
Age: 27
Height: 8’
Weight: 976 lbs
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Chestnut
Physical Description: Fred Dukes was always a chubby kid growing up. He was ‘big boned’. But hey, he liked to eat, and it didn’t seem to slow him down none. He was surprisingly quick, and for what he didn’t necessarily have in agility, he made up for by being a solidly built young man. His natural strength and durability made him a fairly good choice when it came to physical sports (football in particular). But sometime in his late teens Fred went through what could only be called a growth spurt-but that term is a massive understatement. Growing nearly two and a half feet in height, Fred also packed on the pounds in a significant weigh.
To put it bluntly, Fred is super-sized. He has rolls on top of his rolls. He looks like he ate Jenny Craig. Are we getting the picture? By all standards Fred towers over the average adult human male, and is anywhere from two to four times as wide as anyone out there.
Bottom line is-he’s big.
Detailed Description of Powers: The specific details of Fred’s powers are focused around his body’s mass, resilience, indestructibility and strength. His original power was to become virtually unmovable at will. He does this by willfully bonding himself to the earth beneath his feet, causing a ‘monodirectional increase of gravity’ beneath him. To put it plainly, it’s dang hard to move him…and if you can manage to build up enough force to actually accomplish this, he’s likely taking the ground with him. That being said, Fred has been known to stop anything from speeding vehicles to fairly large ammunition fire without much ill effect.
But Fred has other physical mutations that are worth mentioning as well. For one thing, his body is enormous, covered almost completely from head to toe in an abundance of fat cells. These fat tissues are able to absorb enormous amounts of energy, providing Fred with incredible resistance to injury. Fred can deflect small arms gunfire (though deflect probably is not the correct term-his fat actually absorbs the bullets, allowing him to flex his muscles and shoot push them back out at will).
According to Fred, this ‘tickles’.
In addition to stopping bullets, he can stop torpedoes, harpoon lances, flying midgets, Greyhound buses (as well as other brands of public transport), and just about any moving object. He is also resistant to injury from fire. He cannot be punctured, burned, lacerated, frostbitten or chaffed. He also is pretty much impervious to skin disease.
Note: His eyes, ears, nose and mouth are not resistant to injury.
Lastly, his strength levels are worth mentioning. He’s really strong. Though this was not originally part of his mutation, it (along with his great height and girth) developed somewhere in his late teenage years. Generally speaking, Fred is capable of lifting and or pressing somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 tons (10,000 lbs).
Originally from: Lubbock, Texas
Known Family: None
Personality: There are some fat guys that are jolly as the day is long. With rose-colored cheeks and a laugh that makes their belly jiggle like a bowl full of jelly, their very presence is comforting and heart-warming.
Then there’s Fred.
Fred has a massive chip on his shoulder. He is fairly sensitive about his appearance, though you might not pick that up from an initial encounter with him. He comes off as aggressive, angry, insulting and confrontational. He also comes across as not incredibly bright (with good reason). Fred may have an abundance of size on his side, but he definitely isn’t the sharpest tool at Home Depot.
Not that he has to be. If he doesn’t like a situation or a person in particular, he just pounds them to a bloody pulp. Or even worse…he sits on them.
Other: Fred is a pretty decent boxer. Prior to the emergence of his super strength and durability, Fred used to train at a local NYC gym in boxing. He still uses most of what he learned, though doesn’t really see any need for silly things like ‘blocking’ or ‘keeping up his guard’ any more.
Bio: Born in Lubbock, Texas, Fred Dukes was never exactly the most popular kid on the block. He was too big for people to actually pick on him, but he did get lots of comments about his size, and random fliers to join various weight loss programs. It hit a serious nerve with Fred, and he got into a great many fights, winning almost every single one of them.
Because of all of this, Fred grew up thinking of himself as ‘a great big freak’, and almost came to grips with it to some degree. Then, when he was seventeen years old, he started packing on the pounds…in a big way. Fred grew several feet and more than six hundred pounds during his senior year in high school. People stopped laughing when he was around. People were too terrified to even look the angry fat guy in the eye.
After high school Fred stayed in Texas. He had a few odd jobs here and there, probably the oddest of all of them being that he joined a carnival in the Freaks division. Alongside the Bearded Lady, a contortionist who could literally fold herself into thirds, a short green guy who could jump high and had a freaky long tongue and a man who was under three feet tall, Fred made a poor living doing what he thought he was more than qualified for…being a great big freak.
The carnival traveled far and wide, taking him through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and more recently on a tour up the east coast. In all of this he has gained some amount of fame, and though he has to endure the ridicule and gawking stares of the masses at his enormous girth, he does like to show off for the ladies with great feats of strength.
Slated next on the tour: New York City. Fred always wanted to see New York. He figures if he can make it there, he can make it anywhere.
And in the Interview:
Why did you choose our site?: It’s perty. I like all the avatars and signature pics I’m seeing here
What about this character do you like?: I like the idea of playing a villainous character for a change. Not to mention the fact that I think I could have fun with his particular power-set and personality.
Have you ever RPed before? Where?: (If you wish, you can include a link to other RPGs here) Yes. I’ve been at this for many years now. I played on Left Turn at Westchester as Jamie Madrox (one example).
SAMPLE POST
By this time there was an incredible crowd gathering around Fred as he sat on a concrete block at a large banquet table. In front of him were eight empty plates, the greasy juice and crumbs remaining behind were the only evidence that there was ever anything there to begin with. He looked over at his contenders with a disdainful and disapproving glare. They were already down for the count.
But Fred just tied the tablecloth around his neck and motioned for the next batch. Out came a nervous looking little man, carrying a white platter stacked two feet high with hot dogs and buns. Fred eyed the little man with a hungry look, causing him to set the platter down a little more quickly than he otherwise might have and hurry out of the room before he became lunch.
Without saying a word, Fred began to devour the hotdogs. One by one without slowing down or showing any signs of getting full, Fred kept the pace up until the plate was empty. The crowd looked a little nervous and was completely silent while Fred turned a slight shade of green. He brought his hand up to his mouth and let out a loud belch before looking to the man in the back and motioning for the next plate.
Unfortunately there were no more. Fred didn’t like this.
“Don’t make me take it out of your hide,” he growled and got up. The table cloth came up with him, spilling all the plates to the ground with a horrific crash.
