The first thing Gambit noticed upon entering the base was the silence. He had been holed up in modest hotel for the past few nights, and had just caught wind of what had happened at the Institute with SHIELD. Knowing Magneto, this was not the best time to be away from the base, so he had immediately made his return.
Nobody in de dorms... hallways silent. I’d bet any money dere be a meetin’ goin’ on right now. Merde. Nah well, if I gonna be late, I might as well be jus’ a little later an’ actually show up in uniform.
Making a pit stop at his room, Gambit quickly changed into the black body armour, pants and headpiece, as well as the boots that went up to his knees. Slipping on his utility belt, he stocked the pockets of his duster before pulling it back on. Taking a quick look at his reflection, he put on a pair of shades in an attempt to draw attention away from the black eye and bruised face.
At least de uniform hides all de ot’er marks...
Leaving the room, he headed toward the Main hall at a quickened pace, his limp more pronounced in his haste. Stopping just outside the door to compose himself, he was able to hide any physical signs of his pain as he slipped into the room.
Merde, Magneto already be here. Looks like we got some new recruits, t’ough. If he still concentratin’ on de introductions, maybe he won’ notice dis as anyt’in’ more dan jus’ m’ usual lateness.
Choosing to go for silent instead of his usual grand entrance, Gambit took a seat by Havok, and away from both Rogue and Jubilee, who he hadn’t forced himself to look at yet. Noticing the girl from the mall there, Wanda, he threw her a quick smirk before lowering his head and preparing himself for any questions.
Hopefully dis meetin’ remains ‘bout business.

Jubilee's head turned slightly to look at the door as she heard it open, and she watched Gambit slink in. Her eyes widened slightly in shock as she saw him, before she schooled herself back to blankness.
Jesus Christ on a stick! What the *hell* happened to him, and how do I find out what did it so I can send it to a very firey and painful death? I mean, if *I* had done it, it would be different because he sort of does deserve that to happen to him at the moment, but only if I do it. Fate taking that from my hands is bloody well not fair, and She should know that. Bitch.
She watched him walk over to Havok and not even *look* at her and Rogue. Not really.
And that did hurt.
Things between the three of them were all kinds of messed up at the moment, but that didn't mean it didn't still hurt when he just ignored them. Probably thinking they were still so angry at him they couldn't really see straight. Which she had been, but she was mostly over that now. She flared up quickly, then cooled off just as quick. Now she was just worried.

Alex looked at the door as Magneto entered, followed shortly by Gambit. Magneto held his gaze as he inspected X-23 and another new girl, that is, until Remy sat down next to him. The man was obviously injured, though he hid it well.
Alex didn't say a word. If Remy didn't want to talk about it, then Alex wouldn't mention it. Besides, Jubes would get the entire story out of him later. And more than likely not tell Alex. So many things went on in this base that Alex had no idea of. Things that he probably should be kept in the loop about, since they could possibly become a hazard to the group. But no one except Anna had ever involved him in anything. He was as much a part of this team as anyone else here, but these people were as foreign to him as if they spoke a different language.
Deep down, this hurt Alex, but he rarely ever let those emotions show. He rarely ever even acknowledged those emotions. But they were there, all the same.

Unmoving as the door opened, Anna's only acknowledgement that Gambit had entered the room was a shift of her pupils to glimpse him in the corner of her emerald eyes. Watching Remy move across her line of vision and take a seat next to Alex, Anna pursed her lips tightly, biting back comments that wanted to fling themselves across the room at the thief. Calmly reminding herself of the talk she had had with Logan, she sighed deeply, casting her eyes to the floor before moving to sit down in a chair herself.
Why is it so hard t' undahstand what he's goin' through? Why can't Ah forgive him? It should be easier than this.
Gesturing for Jubilee to take a seat in the chair beside her, she put on a fake-sincere smile. At least he popped up. Biting the inside of her cheek, she took another short glance at the Cajun, spotting dark spots, which she assumed to be bruises, on his face, the sunglasses he wore detracting from them a little. Jubes was right. Drunk. Fight. Ah'd bet mah life it all happened.
Feeling butterflies cross her stomach as the teenage-other-universal-version of herself began to fret about Remy's condition. The woman shoved all thoughts and "bugs" down, and then drowned out Rogue. Don't get your overalls in a twist, she thought at the girl, slightly annoyed with the opposing view part of her had for the Swamp Rat. He'll live. God knows he deserved it.
Desiding that she'd just ignore the fact that Gambit even existed, Anna shifted her gaze to Alex and gave him her southern-belle smirk, before glancing casually up at Magneto, her business mask now securely on her face.

Wanda was struck slightly paralyzed by Magneto's entrance. He was a tall, dark and imposing man. A force of nature. She only barely heard Jubilee introduce her as he stood over her. She nodded slowly, keeping her eyes fixed on where she thought his were. "Wanda Maximoff," she said, "sir."
The girl, X-23... she had a codename. Jubilee had a codename, as did Rogue and Havok! Wanda internally grimaced. She had no codename.
Then, the tension was broken slightly by Gambit's arrival. Wanda glaced at him long enough to see him flash her that smirk of his. She smiled back to him with a slight sense of relief wash over her. Though, she did wonder why he was so quiet and withdrawn. She thought Gambit was the loud, boistrous type.

For a moment it did not appear that the girl was going to answer. Her eyes fluttered to the floor and she buckled somewhat under the Magneto's scrutiny. Evidently the young girl standing next to her could not tell who Magneto was looking at, for she spoke up, stating her name as 'X23'.
He turned slightly to her, raising his brows slightly. There was something about her that he could sense, a metal that ran through her entire body that all but beckoned to him. It was fascinating, but he would deal with her later, along with Gambit who he knew for a fact had not stayed at the Acolyte Headquarters for the past few days.
This other young woman, this Wanda Maximoff, had his attention. There was something about her that he felt he should know. "Very nice to meet you, Wanda Maximoff." He turned again. "And X23." Folding his hands behind his back, he asked the obvious question.
"What is it that brings you to our... sanctuary?"

As Magneto thankfully ignored his arrival, and continued to converse with the two new recruits, Gambit finally risked a glance at the two women that so often occupied his thoughts as of late. Rogue was effectively ignoring him, her attention fixed solely on Magneto. The Cajun hadn’t been sure what to make of her reaction to his outburst the other night, nor could he even begin to guess how she’d react upon seeing him again. He had said too much, things he shouldn’t have said, but she had ended up being the one to apologize. Now she didn’t appear angry, upset... in fact, she appeared completely devoid of emotion. A trick Gambit himself knew all too well.
But Rogue wasn’t who he was really worried about. He may have laid his heart bare to her, but his last conversation with Jubilee had been violent and hurtful. If anyone had reason to hate him at that moment, it was her. But deep down, he knew she didn’t, that she never would. He treated her like crap, and she remained a devoted friend, a fact that was proven by the worried look on her face, and a fact that caused the guilt to rise up within him again. As he locked eyes with her, he was suddenly grateful for the dark shades that hid the pain, guilt, remorse and self loathing in his eyes. But never again would he wish for the easy way out.
I deserve all dis. If I learned anyt’in’ de ot’er night, wit’ de fight an’ de talk wit’ Logan, it’s dat I gotta keep goin’. Life dealt me a crap hand, but I gotta stay in de game an’ play it out. Fold now, an’ nobody wins. An’ I ain’ never been a quitter b’fo’.
Dropping his gaze again, Gambit leaned over slightly on the chair arm closest to Havok, wanting to attempt to break the tense air in the room.
“Y’ know, we keep bringin’ in all dese femmes, we gonna be extremely outnumbered... not dat I be complainin’! Gotta love dese odds,” he said in a low voice, not wanting to interrupt the conversation going on at the other end of the table.

Alex looked at Remy as the other man spoke, not responding at first. He was a little disappointed in Remy, though he kept his face neutral. The man came in, late, limping, and obviously injured.
It's not my place to judge. He reminded himself.
"The odds may be good for you, but not for me. After all, I have you to compete with." He said, forcing a smile onto his face. Smiles didn't look natural on Alex anyway, so a forced smile looked about the same as a real one coming from him.

Celise managed to keep her eyes away from the others, twiddling her fingers in anticipation of the mission, and nervousness. Almost everyone held dissapointing stares while LeBeau held bruises that he tried to cover up with sunglasses. Although she could have been thinking what everyone else was, "What the hell happened to him?", she was more than likely to not inquire. It simply wasn't her business.
Celise shifted her weight to her other leg then leant back against the wall, casually. She pulled her hands into a fold across her chest and behind the tinted shades before her eyes, she overlooked the conversation between Magneto and the two women. One of them seemed completely yielded by his appearance, the other, completely reserved.

Wanda lowered her head to Magneto out of respect, not out of fear. "I was told that I would be treated as an equal here, and not as a monster." she raised her head again. "My experience in this world has not been a happy one of late."
Wanda didn't understand why, but she felt a deep connection with Magneto, like he had once had or will be having a great influence on her life. The rest of the room seemed to melt away as she gazed at him in wonder.

X23, on the other hand, lifted her chin up, crossed her arms and shifted her weight to one leg.
"'Cause humans are ass wipes."
X23 felt like she just kicked herself inside. A part of her said it was stereotypical and immoral to say that, but her violent little rebellious other half screamed that humans deserved it.
She snorted lightly, hoping she wouldn't be asked of an explaination. She'd have to explain why she hated humans and her history was no one's business.

Jubilee sat down next to Rogue, sprawling casually as she always did and propping one armoured leg over her knee. She flicked her eyes from Wanda towards X23 when the other girl spoke in an angry little snarl. Someone had issues. She'd like to know what they were, but after.
Wanda had class. She had to admit that. Looked like the red suited her...maybe talk the woman into getting all of them in that colour. Jubilee pursed her lips slightly, thinking about uniforms and logistics while her eyes went distant. And now they were expanding so rapidly, they really needed to make some rules about the food situation. She'd take it up with Gambit later...once they had a talk about what was going on between the two of them again.
She hoped to God it didn't end like the last one had.

Listening to Wanda talk about how she has been mistreated, he felt a swell of empathy for her. That was what he was providing here, at least in part. This was a sanctuary where mutants could come to belong. The clencher was that they had to be prepared. The reality was that mutants were already at war with humanity. Magneto's job was to prepare them...as soldiers.
"You both have come to the right place," he said, placing a hand on each of their shoulders. "You are welcome here, to join the ranks of soldiers in the fight against humanity."
Not being able to figure out what it was that seemed so familiar about Wanda Maximoff's face, Magneto resolved it within himself to save that endeavor for a later date. Now, he had business to attend to.
Turning from the two newest Acolytes, he spun into the air and hovered slightly over everyone in the room. Surveying the looks on their faces he read a general body language on everyone.
"You are all ready for action, for something to happen." A smile graced his lips. "Well, my Acolytes, I do believe you will enjoy this next mission." With only a minor pause, Magneto launched into why he had brought them into this meeting.
"Xavier and his X-Men have been captured. His precious school is empty. Today we will leave here, and I am sending all of you on a recon mission. That school houses many secrets, and I intend to find out exactly what some of those secrets are."

Jubilee smiled slowly. Unlike her usual happy-go-lucky grins, this one looked a bit deadly. More then a little edged.
"Mucho coolio, Magneto. I take it this was a reaction to that little trip to Washington DC we took? And what are we looking for, exactly? Plans, tech or files?"

Crossing her legs, Anna faded into the background of the meeting's discussions, finding it best to keep her mouth shut for the next few meetings and get used to the format before speaking her thoughts. Leaning to one side, on her left arm as it rested on the chair's armrest, Anna pursed her lips tightly, giving the appearance she was concentrating intently on what was being said.
Hiding the slight recognition she had at Xavier's name, Anna gave no inclination that it had struck her oddly. Pushing away the flashes of images in her mind, she looked emotionlessly up at Magneto, her emerald eyes catching a deep grey hue with her dark mood.
Prolly all of the above, Jubes, her sarcasm kept locked in her head with the dozens of other thoughts.
