this is my latest fanfiction continuity, and I'm infact onto my second story.
Its basically how I would have done the X-men, from the start. I know I probably won't get many readers, but what the hey, if you like it, gimmie a review from time to time, I appreciate it.
The Beginning: The Dream
Chapter 1: The X-men[/u][/size]
This is my new fic, and yes, it is an experiment of mine. I wondered to myself the other day.
What if I took the story from the start, the original 5, where would I end up? Interesting question, well the results are here.
I am basically writing this, as the first story in my new continuity.
My other stories for my other continuity will not be on hold or cancelled, I will basically write one story for this continuity, and one for the other. It’ll really depend on what mood I’m in while writing.
=== === ===
Xavier’s Perspective-
I look through the window down at them. My X-men, my hope for a better future, the hope for mutant kind and our future on this world, and no one even knew them yet.
No one except me, the one who took these lost souls in. I do no delude myself. The tasks we will face together seem like endlessly high mountains, pushing towards the heavens. I still wonder myself if I am doing the right thing, taking these young men, and young woman, and training them fully knowing that one day the day would come, where they must risk their lives.
But it is necessary. The world, this lonely blue planet in the heavens, is coming apart at the seams. My students, each of them coming from a separate background, and each surprising me in their own way, have grown together and learned together.
Scott Summers, Warren Worthington, Henry McCoy, Robert Drake, and Jean Grey, these are my X-men.
I see Scott and Warren staring one another down and internally sigh. They are still seem to be having problems decided who gets to be leader I see, even though the last time I checked, I decided for Scott to be the leader.
I knew each of their personalities since the day I met them.
It started with Scott…
=== === ===
Seven Years Earlier-
I look ahead at my latest humanitarian project. A shelter for the homeless, for those who are far less fortunate then myself, I was born into riches, they were pushed, or in some cases, born into rags.
It was truly tragic to see many of the men walking in here, some women as well. Their tragic lifestyles apparent to me as I watched, and felt each one enter the building.
I turn my head to my lead volunteer. I was opening more of these shortly, and Jason was one of the first ones to help me.
“I’m pleased with the turnout,” I tell him before turning my head towards the people lining up to receive food.
“You have no idea how much these people owe you Charles,” He said looking as well. “Jason, they owe me nothing,” I reply, turning away. “I live in luxury. They love in poverty, no, so they owe me nothing at all for my generosity,”
I could feel one man who entered, he was older. I knew he was a mutant like me. I had met so few, but I was meeting more and more. The mutant phenomenon was starting all across the world. Select men and women, out of nowhere having amazing powers.
I had been taught as a young man, from my professor, Professor Nathaniel Landon. That eventually man would evolve. Later, from Richard Essex, only a few short years ago, he showed me how man had evolved, the evidence, everything behind it.
Since then, I have been trying to find a way to help those like me, coexist with the world around us, it has not been hard.
For some, the mutation has become a curse, unable to hide it from others, they are cast out from society, killed, or taken away by the powers that be, but I know there will soon be too many of us for this to happen.
The next stage of evolution will have to coexist with the current. Will there be a war between mankind and its successor? I pray that never happens, and will do anything to stop it.
Suddenly, I feel another person enter the building, and turn my head. Another mutant, suddenly my eyes become shocked, oh how low the situation has become.
A small child, a make shift blindfold covering his eyes, and wearing a torn and dirty shirt, walks in, and nearly falls over as he trips. Is he blind? I know he is a mutant, he fears himself, and what he may do with his unnatural ability.
“Jason, if you would excuse me,” I say, rolling ahead to meet the young man. He looks no older then 13.
I stop my chair next to him, and look down, moving through the crowd. “Hello,” I greet quietly. His head moves up towards my voice, I can feel his apprehension.
“My name is Charles Xavier, what is yours?” I asked. I know his thoughts, he intends to run from me, afraid I will force him into child services, where his curse, his gift, will be discovered.
*Do not be afraid, we all have our special gifts* I send, it’s so strange for me to use my own powers like this, so rarely do I meet someone I can be myself with.
He looks even more terrified for a moment, before a small, hopeful voice replies *You are like me?*
I smile. *Yes*.
For some reason, his head in my direction, I see something more then a frightened homeless child, I see the future.
=== === ===
Present Time-
Scott was the first, I took him in, and I helped him deal with his trauma. His eyes plagued him. he was unable to control them. It took a year of research to find how to conceal the blasts, rubies.
Through his visors, or specially made sunglasses, Scott can now live among other humans, with sight.
Scott’s history however, did not go away as easily. Even today he struggles with his time on the streets, and even what happened before. I have mentally probed to the depths of his mind, with his consent of course, as we tried to discover what plagues him so, and we have seen only glimpses.
The orphanage he ran away from, the plane crash where he lost his mother, father and brother, and the acts he had to do on the streets to survive. They are too painful for him to face, but I have helped him through it, the memories are now for the most part, repressed. We still deal with them from time to time, but for now, they are always in the back of his mind, unable to plague him further.
He caught up on education over the years, and trained, he is the most motivated of my members. He sees me as his father. He feels he owes his entire life to me because of this. He doesn’t realize it, but I owe just as much to him. Scott is like a son to me, and my best student, and most of all, my biggest confident.
Whatever he owed me has easily been returned many times over, not that I would want him to pay me back. I saved him, and began this team, for the good of all.
Of course, my gaze then focuses on my second addition to the team, Jean Grey.
She looks at Warren and Scott bickering and doesn’t look impressed. They tend to bicker and fight over her. I hope she puts an end to their crushes soon, but then again, I suppose she enjoys the attention…
=== === ===
Six Years Earlier-
I looked at my school. I had rebuilt my traditional family home. Only the best, I’ve spent incalculable amounts of money doing it as well, but soon it will truly be completed.
Unfortunately, finding students seem to be the real problem. Scott is here for the time being, and I must admit trying to get him to manage his powers is already over burdening. I cannot find what is preventing him from controlling his powers, even now. I am beginning to believe it is medical.
I sigh and turn away from the school to see Scott, still blindfolded, standing next to my chair.
I know he is awaiting a miracle to let him see without destroying, and it pains me that I have yet to find one. I have several men in Europe working on a temporary solution however. From what we can tell, rubies may possess some properties that may help contain the beams.
With any luck, this will prove fruitful.
I turn my head, just as I hear a car pull up and I detect 3 new minds.
The door opens on the vehicle as the 3 exit the transport. One is a small girl and I wonder what is going on.
“Professor Charles Xavier?” The man asks from the gate, the girl seems to look unsure and frightened. I here the thoughts in the back of their minds and I can’t believe it.
“I’m John Grey, and this is my wife, Elaine… We’ve tried everywhere, the last doctor we met with told us about you, and your school, the one you are trying to make for gifted children,” John said, looking worried and unsure. I cannot blame him.
“Our daughter… she… she’s developed some… special, gifts,” Elaine finally said.
“What happened?” I asked after a moment, I would not read their minds. “…” He looked at his wife, who nodded.
“Mr. Xavier, our daughter… she… This is so absurd I can’t believe I’m saying it but… she can do things with her mind,” He finally said.
“Please don’t tell him, I’m not a freak,” The 12 year old said quietly, looking at her parents desperately. Both looked at her with sympathy and sorrow.
“She’s become a danger to those around her,” John finally said. “Last week, she… threw our television at myself and her sisters Madelyn and Sara,” John explained. “Its hard to explain, but she didn’t touch it to do it,”
“She’s been having trouble with her sister Madelyn, and we were trying to get both of them to stop, when Jean looked at the TV, it ripped off the ground, and then she looked at us and…” He didn’t finish as Jean staggered back holding her head.
It was then I felt it more deeply, her mind reaching out, attempting to find something to attack with her rage. Her nose started to bleed.
“Not again,” John said in fear as the car lifted off the ground.
“Jean please, this is for your own good!” Elaine pleaded.
I telepathically blocked her mind’s ability to throw the car. It dropped to the ground.
She wiped her nose and started to cry. “Please don’t leave me behind!” I could feel the chaos in her mind, the uncertainty, and the feeling of abandonment and contempt for her sister, her identical sister.
Jean was now sobbing. I knew she didn’t want to be here. I felt terrible for her.
“What’s going on?” Scott asked, attempting to look blindly. “Everything is fine Scott,” I tell him.
I see the Greys embracing their daughter, trying to calm her. I frown at the sight.
*Jean, I am Professor Charles Xavier* I send to her. *We have many things we can work out together, but only if you let me help you* I add. She looks up at me from her parent’s embrace in shock.
She knows I am like her.
“Mr. and Mrs. Grey, it would be an honor for Jean to stay here,” I tell them, the gates opening. “Would you like a further tour of the institute?” I then add.
“Yes Professor,” Elaine said, sounding rather emotional. Jean looks nervously at us all and I smile. *Its alright Jean, everything is fine* I sent. She carefully walked forward, still trying to wipe her bloody nose.
I turn towards the entrance of the school, glad the most difficult part of this affair was over.
“Why are your eyes blind folded?” I hear Jean ask Scott.
=== === ===
Present Time-
How far Jean has come along, she is my protégé, my true student. My second student, her powers and mine were ideal for working together, I helped her through her anger problems, and since then we have worked on her powers.
I smile at her through the window and roll out of my room.
Heading outside, I see them.
“Hey guys, chill out! The Prof is here!” I hear Robert say, trying to stop the argument between Scott and Warren. I know that it will be to no avail.
“Why should you even be in command? Just because you were the first means nothing,” Warren said angrily. “I think that it means I have the most experience!” Scott shoots back.
“Both of you!” I say finally. “That is quite enough, I appointed Cyclops as the leader of the team, and everyone here will have to deal with it,” I say.
“Thank you oh all knowing Professor, without you, these two wouldn’t get along unless hell froze over right guys?” Iceman asked Cyclops and Angel, who both glared at him in response.
“Oh come on, that one was funny and you know it,” Iceman said. “By funny you mean lame, right?” Cyclops asked rhetorically. “Oh that’s a good one Scott, not, but then again, with only one eye, I kind of expect you to be off mark from time to time,”
“That is enough, all of you!” I finally say. Everyone quiets and I breathe in. “You will all have to learn to work together as a team, despite your personal differences,” I tell them. “No matter who is in command,” I say looking at Warren, Scott, and Bobby.
Thankfully Bobby seems to have no interest in being leader. That would only serve to make the problem worse. Robert’s insecurity however does not help anyone, nor does his lack of maturity. I fear one day things may become hard for Robert if he can’t start to take responsibility for things, and grow as a person.
He seems to have changed so little since he first arrived.
=== === ===
Five Years Earlier-
Jean hovered near the window. “Is he coming yet?” She asked. “He should be arriving shortly,” I tell my young charge.
“Remember, do not try to overtake him, we want to give him space as he arrives, just as Scott and I gave you space,” I tell her. “But he’s someone new,” Jean said looking at me. “We see so few other people and-” I put my hand up smiling. “I understand Jean, but for now please give him some room, Robert has had a… difficult, time before coming here,”
Just then, I see the car coming through the gate, I feel the two minds inside and nod to Jean.
Scott runs in, his red sunglasses shining. “He’s here?” He asked with excite.
To be young, how strange they are at such ages. I know this last year for Jean, and two years for Scott have been hard, with so little company other then myself or one another. They really have become the closest of friends however.
I know how much they anticipate this new student, as if he’s an object for them almost, to associate with and talk to. But what they may find is what troubles me.
Robert Drake, or Bobby, as the social workers told me he preferred to be called, lost his family, because of his mutation.
When if manifested itself, he frozen his entire home, with his father and mother inside. He’s been through the system for months now, and finally the government has decided to, as the man said “dump him on my lap”.
Mutants are very rare as it is. That they have no idea how to deal with him, nor do they want to.
The car then proceeds to stop. The door on the side opens and a young man with brown hair steps out, looking at the school with some distaste.
He has still yet to come to terms with what has happened to him. He won’t admit he is a mutant yet, I can feel it, but as I look even on the outside of his mind, I know he is one.
The social worker walks to the door and knocks.
“Scott, would you get the door for our guest?” I asked. “Of course Professor!” He then runs out as fast as his legs will take him and Jean follows quickly.
I turn and roll out of the room.
When I get down to the entrance I see Bobby just looking at Jean and Scott as his social worker, Fred, looks at the children.
“Hello Robert,”
”Oh man, do I have to come here Fred my man? This place is for freaks,” Bobby says and just shakes his head, wanting nothing to do with it. I see Scott and Jean’s faces immediately fall.
“Bobby, this place is not a place for oddities, it is for those who have unique abilities and gifts,” I tell him patiently. “In other words, freaks,” Bobby counters.
“Watch it,” Scott says dangerously. “You watch it shades,” Bobby snaps back, the ground under him freezing.
He looks down and jumps back slightly. “Stop that!” He orders.
“There is nothing wrong with that Bobby, you merely need to learn to control your powers,” I tell him smiling friendlily.
“I don’t have any powers,” Bobby responds. “You do Robert,” The social worker says and kneels down.
“We know you do, we went over this,” He said quietly. Bobby looks down and away.
He also knows it’s the reason no one will adopt him, and even foster parents won’t have him anymore, no one will. He is a complete outcast of society, and even a danger to it. At this point, the government had decided it was either here, or being locked away.
Bobby didn’t have a choice. I made it for him upon speaking with my contacts in Washington.
Bobby pushed Fred away and looked away. “Everyone just chill out, ok?” Bobby said with a false smile. “I guess I can stick around here for a while, no harm right?” He then said rhetorically. He’s building safety walls around himself.
I put my hand out and smile at him. “Welcome to the Xavier Institute,” I say formally. He hesitantly takes my hand. “Cool,”
Jean and Scott are already quietly leaving, obviously not wanting to associate with Robert.
Fred walks out the door and Robert looks at me.
“Now Robert,” I say turning my chair. “Follow me for the tour, I do believe you will enjoy your stay here,” I tell him smiling.
=== === ===
Present Time-
Bobby has never fully embraced his powers, even now. He distances himself from them, often wanting little to do with them. It took me a month to even get him to admit he really was a mutant. We still have painful memories to work through I think, before he can ever really take his powers seriously.
Not that I can blame him, they killed his parents. I know this must not be the only case where this happens for a young mutant, but it takes none of the pain away. Bobby puts up masks and walls to hide his real self from everyone. It is a true shame, unable to do anything but hide from the world.
Beast leaps over the team and lands in front of me, smiling as usual. “Professor,” He greets in his usual soft spoken way. “I don’t think there is any need to overreact. Warren and Scott were merely displaying their ability to debate with one another on controversial issues,” I can’t help but smile slightly.
Scott and Warren look away from one another as Bobby steps up to the plate again. “Controversial how? It seems more like a dick waving competition to me, but then again I think Shades takes that one easily, everyone knows Warren has those wings to compensate for something,”
Jean tries not to laugh in the background, and even Scott smirks. Beast merely places his hand on his face and sighs. “Oh dear,”
Warren looks outraged by the remark. “You little insignificant-”
Why must I always step in. “When I said enough, I meant enough!” I stress again before sighing.
“The training for today is over,” I tell them. “Please, go back inside, and try to get along,”
Beast nods to me with a knowing smile before going inside. His being the oldest, I think has helped him since he arrived.
=== === ===
Three years earlier-
I looked up at Robert as he slid into the room. He’s going to destroy the floor, the water damage bills were getting ridiculous.
“Robert, what did I tell you about that?” I asked immediately. “Yea, yea whatever,” Bobby responded. “We got company, of the blue and fury kind,”
I raise a brown and detect the mind at the front, how interesting, another surprise guest. I roll out of the room and head down the stairs to see him waiting at the front door. He looks at me with a simple smile and his large furred arm moves up and rubs the back of his own head slightly.
“You must forgive my appearance,” He says, his clothing ripped “However I found it necessary to arrive here as quickly as possible,”
“What happened?” I asked in shock. “You see, Professor Xavier? My mutation evolved, I have been a mutant since 14, however before,” He looks down. “I was not quite as bestial, and blue, as I am now,” He admitted.
I’m honestly surprised how well he’s taken this. “My name is Henry McCoy, but my friends call me Hank,” Henry says to me.
“You are taking this remarkably well Hank,” I say after a moment.
“I have already graduated high school, but since earlier today, I have found myself in a fairly unique situation professor,” He says. “For some strange reason, there are a large number of people calling me a monster, and throwing things at me,”
Is that humor, in this situation?
“I can understand why, they fear what they do not understand,” I say more to myself then to him. “Man will always be as such, fearing change, those different, and anything he sees as a threat to himself, such is the world I fear,” Henry says raising one of his hands, positioning himself almost to lecture me.
“How can I help you Hank?” I then question. “I seek refuge, I am sorry to admit, my parents kicked me out this morning surprisingly,” Hank admitted. “I was, what is that word?... Ah yes, a free loader,”
I look him over one more moment and lean forward in my chair, offering my hand. “Welcome Mr. McCoy, it would be an honor to have you with us,”
Henry takes it and smiles at me pleasantly.
=== === ===
Present Time-
I look at Henry a moment before he goes in. Scott walks past me next. *Could you do something about Worthington? He isn’t worth much with how he behaves* I hear from him.
*You perpetuate the situation as well Scott* I remind him before rolling over to Warren.
“Warren, may I speak with you in private?” I asked.
“Certainly professor,”
Warren was the latest addition, the last to arrive, and had only been here for a short while, since then, problems had been occurring very frequently between himself and the others.
=== === ===
Five Weeks Earlier-
“Mr. Worthington I must say it is a pleasure to have you here to sponsor my school,” I tell him with a smile as I role past the entrance. “Yes,” Warren sr. says quietly. “Allow me to be frank with you Professor,” he says. I suspect I already know what this is about.
“I am not entirely willing to sponsor your school, unless you can… accept someone,” He said. “There is no discrimination here Mr. Worthington,” I tell him with a smile. “My son, Warren…”
“Is a mutant,” I say, looking down. “Yes,” He confirms. “We’ve suspected that he was for some years, but now it is obvious, and we want him to go somewhere to learn about his powers, thrive, and contribute to society,”
“Do tell him the truth father,” A voice said, walking in. As I looked up, I saw an angel walk into my school, long, feathered beautiful wings shimmering in the light. I then realize this was his son.
“You are ashamed of me and merely wish to dump me off before anyone recognizes your exceptional son is a mutant,” Warren jr. says with anger. “Son, you know this are not like that,”
“Spare me your words old man, I have heard what you and mother have spoken about, be glad I am willing to come here to get away from you,” Warren says darkly.
I roll forward. “Charles Xavier,” The winged young man says putting his hand out. “It is a pleasure to meet you,” He then looks at his father with disgust.
=== === ===
Present Time-
“The team is having some… difficulties, working out the leadership issues,” I admit to him. “He isn’t fit to command Professor, I’m sorry,” Warren starts. “No Warren, I picked Scott to lead the training sessions for a reason,” I tell him.
“Scott has shown the most responsibility, I believe you could be a capable leader in time Warren, but for now, Scott will be in command, do I make myself clear?”
“Crystal,” Warren answers, giving me a cold look before walking past.
I had decided on creating the X-men, the elite team of mutants protecting humanity from their own kind shortly after Henry joined the team.
The day a mutant rampaged through the heart of San Francisco killing 400, and the riots happened across the country. The day 12 mutants died as a result, and hundreds more humans in the riots.
The day I realized that I had to teach my students not only to protect themselves, but to protect our kind.
That was the day I took Bobby, Hank, Scott and Jean, and formed the X-men.
=== === ===
Bobby Time-
Man oh man, new continuity hurrah! The original five baby! Nobody can top that, the Bobster, Hank, Warren, Shades and Jean? Whose gonna stop us?
You’ll note a bunch of changes in reality, if you don’t like them? Guess what? We don’t care! Well we do, please keep reading, please? I didn’t mean it, we love you, the author, the cast, everyone, we all love you and we want to you keep reading.
If not, we’ll be as cancelled as Cable and Deadpool…
Its basically how I would have done the X-men, from the start. I know I probably won't get many readers, but what the hey, if you like it, gimmie a review from time to time, I appreciate it.

=== === ===
=== === ===
