CODENAME: REMEDY
REAL NAME: Emily Ferrell
HEIGHT: 5ft 4 and a half
WEIGHT: 150 lbs
HAIR: Chestnut (Red brown), worn long
EYES: Amber/Hazel/Brown (bright indigo when using healing energy)
AGE: 23
Other notes about appearance: Emily is a sturdily built woman, like a figure skater- she is compact and muscular, strangely graceful in a completely unconscious way. Her heart shaped face with delicate regular features is pretty (rather than beautiful) - her eyes large and almond shaped with mutable colors. Rem's figure is almost eye bogglingly lush, that is when she lets it be seen: she has an hourglass figure in perfect proportion to her moderate height and tends to be on the buxom side - a challenge when attempting the more athletic activities (and can be a great source of ironic rpg amusement)
BIRTHPLACE: Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA
KNOWN IMMEDIATE RELATIVES: Elaine Ferrel (mother) and Victoria Ferrel (maternal aunt)
MUTANT ABILITIES: Healing (manipulating living tissue), healing factor as related to the healing ability (Takes most of a minute for moderate wounds, longer for more serious wounds. Won't heal others unless affected characters have a request otherwise for dramatic purposes etc *wink* I play as flexibly as possible!) Healing ability is limited to touch. Takes on injuries and wounds onto her own body and then heals herself.
Limitations:
Cannot heal the dead or brain dead, mortal wounds, can't affect cancer or AIDS or the like. After healing she is often ravenous and exhausted - she has to eat and rest, especially if she herself has been hurt badly and is recovering. If she has had to heal herself, her ability to aid others is severely affected.
If her powers are overextended, Remedy risks going into a coma which is life threatening, if she doesn't get IV fluids and/or food via tube she can lose body mass and die as her tissues cannabalise themselves to restore her energy.
Because of the way she manifested, Emily is hypersensitive to the every living function of people. She cannot control this very well and finds it very overwhelming since it affects her everyday functionality.
FIGHTING SKILLS: karate (black belt level, but several years ago!), SOME firearms, gymnastics (when she begins training to recall how to)
OTHER NOTEWORTHY SKILLS: second year Medical Student, BA: Celtic Studies, Can drive automatic or stick shift automobiles, motorcycles but no aircraft as yet.
WEAKNESSES: The media, being crowded. She is especially vulnerable to being overwhelmed when she is exhausted, hurt or the like since she needs to concentrate to shield out the sensitivity to living beings. Her healing powers often overwhelm her, imagine being able to sense EVERYONE'S most minute bodily functions all at once, although with time she is learning control.
Touching a person with more than her fingertips or for a prolonged period of time is tantamount to inviting all their bodily sensations to overwhelm her own
EG: The one time she kissed a young man passionately, she placed herself AND the unfortunate (or fortunate?) guy in a coma for 2 days... having accidentally stimulated his pleasure centers directly.
Post Traumatic Shock Syndrome: can freeze up in a fight or- if cornered- may lose control of herself and go berserk.
Personal
BIO: Emily Ferrell's childhood was full of shocking neglect and abuse... until her maternal aunt, Victoria Ferrell, adopted her. With years of counseling and an obsessive need to be independent and no longer a victim, young Emily took up karate and the arts, enrolled in International Baccalaureate and earned a BA in Celtic Studies before she was 20. Despite morbid obesity and her violent background, she made friends easily and befriended many of the pro-mutant groups in her university.
Unlike most mutants who get their powers when they are in their early teens, Emily did not achieve her powers until fairly recently. (The trigger as yet unknown)
At what was supposed to be a peaceful student demonstration at her university, things got ugly and a gun-wielding group of crazed drugged students began to go on a horrifying rampage.
Emily defended herself and got caught in the crossfire between the authorities and the violent students. In a flurry of bullets, she fell; expecting to die... but instead the wounds spit out the bullets and sealed shut as she watched in horror. She then felt a surge of energy tear through her, and she created a wave of healing energy that saved many lives by accident.
The event was caught on film by a student's camcorder, and when it was discovered that this young woman had saved lives, an unruly mob ensued... injured students and over-eager press agents all trying to reach the stricken young woman. Dubbed "The Angel of Mercy" by the Press, she has been hounded since by desperate people who want to be healed, or see her as some kind of manifestation of divinity/ demonic origin.
Ironically it was her obesity that saved her that day, as she metabolized all her extra weight when her dna spontaneously rewrote itself in a single moment.
Fighting to learn control of these newfound abilities, the young healer finds herself at a loss at what to do. She is hoping to perhaps teach part time and also finish her medical degree.
PERSONALITY: Emily is a VERY genuinely kind hearted woman, but also a bit wary as she is beginning to 'come into her own'. She's intelligent and more than a little talented, and has a tendency to be overly cautious and watchful around those she doesn't know well.
Once Emily learns to trust the people around her, she warms up considerably, becoming a warm, vivacious and very friendly and outgoing person. She HATES being vulnerable, and LOATHES the
press due to her recent traumatic experiences with them.
Emily has NO idea of how attractive she's become, and terrified that everyone will see her as the fat girl she had been for so many years. More than the weight, she is ashamed of being a victim and longs to fight back as much as she wants to single-handedly heal the world, Remedy is a champion of the underdog, and will stand up if she perceives an injustice. While usually warm and accepting, she can become the fiery Celts woman she is and call the truth as she sees it.
Being from a background of severe abuse, Em is highly sensitive to others who may have similar vulnerabilities making her highly empathic and also wordlessly accepting of others. The ability earned from this stage of her life has given Emily an incredible ability to read body language and facial expression, something survivors of this type often exhibit.
She is quite easy going, but assertive, and when pushed too far has a fiery core that is surprising in a person who can seem so mild. Since she had always been quite overweight until the onset of her powers, she is now dealing with a bit of a personality crisis. She wants to be stylish and youthful, and yet is only familiar with being far more conservative.
Her clothing styles tend to be a reflection of this.
Likes: videogames, singing (and she's pretty darn good too!), dancing, painting, drawing, blonde men, brunette men, red haired men... MEN in general (although she'll never admit it and is terminally shy)! Reading, going to university or college, computers, writing, bad sappy poetry, animals, shopping, sushi!
Dislikes: Older men who are stern (trigger for Post Traumatic Shock), crowds, the media, bullies, mean spirited or cruel people, loud noises, pizza (ick!)
Hobbies: some mentioned in Likes section.
And in the Interview:
Why did you choose our site?: I have been really enjoying the quality of the posts, and can see how much folks are truly enjoying role playing.
What about this character do you like?: Well, I'm biased, but she's pretty unique and, I think, quite original in her own way. The real truth is that I have a lot of fun interacting with others and enjoy encouraging others to explore their own characters and have a blast roleplaying and writing for pure enjoyment. ^_^
Have you ever RPed before? Where?
xaviersdreams.proboards43.com alas it died... *sniffles* but it was fun while it lasted. I have also played on EZBoard for a very very long time, most of my old posts were lost when the boards got hacked. *more sniffles* I played for a while on Prodigy... um, that's all I can think of. Many years of fun! I was also a mod on a few boards, helping where and when I could... I am still available to play villains if you folks need some help with that?

Let me also say that the exquisite Poser renderings also caught my eye and made me do a happy dance! Beautifully done! *applauds madly* (I love Poser too)

Writing Sample:
The young woman stared up at the sprawling buildings before with some trepidation and a thrill of... what was it? Fear? Anticipation? Hope?
All of the emotions swirled past so quickly she could hardly identify them, much less
contain them. The quickened beat of her heart made her almost giddy, and a rush of other sensations threatened to drown her...
There were more than a few people in those buildings, and their heartbeats thundered into her senses. Brainwaves, hormones, the ebb and flow of blood and nerve impulses... all the minute million living functions of the human body crashed down, a tsunami hammering senses rubbed almost raw from constant exposure to the people on the plane, in the airports, everywhere. Millions of living beings, beathing, living - a cacophony of life energy that
one Emily Ferrell nicknamed Remedy was tuned to in inhuman sensitivity.
She felt her very self being threatened, to be washed away and she had to breath deeply and clamp hard-won control over her errant powers.
Remedy came back to herself, on her knees, hands shaking and cold inside the fingerless gloves she wore. They kept all but her fingertips from brushing bare skin, limited her senses and the inevitable tell-tale tingle her touch generated to others.
A few more deep breaths and she found her center again, letting only her own five more mortal senses take in her surroundings. A few whisps of her hair, limned gold and copper in the fading sunlight tickled her cheek and nose as she sighed.
For better or worse, she was here, and all she could do was hope that the famous Dr. McCoy could untangle the mess of her scramble genetic structure, to solve the mystery of her un-looked for mutant powers.
Her only hope was that he could help her...
Edit: Mostly revamping to see what is acceptable.
I DO have a villainess version of this character if you're short on villains. Please let me know and I'll be happy to revamp for that version - it's sometimes fun to be hated! *laughs*
