Bobby and Callie have begun a tentative relationship (yet, even, to be christened with a first kiss), and Callie has just picked Bobby up from school on her bike. After a ride on the bike, the couple have stopped for a rest on the cliffs overlooking the bay that gives Bayville its name, and Callie is about to shatter the innocence of it all with a few home truths. How Bobby reacts will change the course of their future.
A story about how things went in another place (Pyromane) and how things might have been...
-------------------------------
Callie sat on the edge of the cliff with Bobby, feeling more than a little out of place. She never thought she'd find a boy like Bobby attractive, he was so... normal, as normal as mutants got anyway, so clean cut and sweet, he wasn't her usual type, but there was something about him that she liked.
The sun was just beginning to set, it was almost romantic, and she couldn't help but shuffle a little closer to him with a shy smile that was quite unlike her.
"Bobby, I wanna tell y'some'tin'..." she said softly, breaking the moment a little. Callie hadn't planned on saying it, but it was out now, and she knew she'd have to continue, but wasn't sure she minded. She didn't know why she was going to potentially ruin everything by telling him why she didn't go to school, that the only reason she had a place to stay right now was the kindness of an old friend, she just knew that she wanted him to understand that, though he may be clean cut and sweet, she wasn't.

Looking out over the cliff, sitting next to Callie, Bobby Drake appeared to have a pretty deep look on his face...almost as if he were contemplating the very meaning of life. But truth has a way of trumping mere appearances. Bobby's mind was nowhere near as pensive at the moment.
Dude, I rode out here with her on her motorcycle. Callie totally ROCKS!
At her words, Bobby did the somewhat shameful 'stretch' maneuver, smoothly gliding down into putting his arm around her when he brought his hands down. It was smooth other than the fact that it was about the lamest and oldest of the patented moves and his intentions might as well have been glowing in neon colors.
He blinked as he thought about what it was that she might have to say. He looked at her for a very long time before he said the words in as slow a manner as possible. "Oh...........kay..."

Callie blinked as his arms went up in a stretch and came down over her shoulders. The oldest trick in the book, and yet he was the first boy she'd even known to use it. Colour tinted her cheeks as she looked out over the bay for a moment, though she soon realised that she needed to actually say what it was she wanted to tell him.
"Well...it's jus'..." she paused, how did one actually phrase it? "I know it's pretty obvious I ain' y'average girl, I don' go t'school, ride 'round de place on my motorbike...I jus' wan' y'to know why..." she took a deep breath, enough stalling, just tell him "I didn' have de best childhood, bein' passed between foster homes or livin' on de streets...I just wanted y't'know...I am who I am 'cos of dat, an' I ain't apologising for it."
It was clumsy, she had to admit, but she said what she wanted to say, she hoped he could accept it.

Bobby listened intently to her as she spoke. She seemed all worked up about the whole thing, and he couldn't really tell why. At the end, he wasn't really sure what to say.
"So wait...you're apologizing for being a hottie that rides around on a motorcycle and is all hot and stuff?"
He gave her a teasing smile.
"None of that matters to me," he said giving her shoulder a squeeze. And then he felt the need to make a confession of his own, but he really didn't know which one to choose from. Looking out from the cliff with the breeze blowing on his cheeks, Bobby just said the first thing that came to his mind.
Never a good idea.
"Just a couple of months ago I got busted filling the hot tub with ice when Ororo was in it." He didn't explain why he was watching her in the hot tub. "It was an accident, but I ain't apologizing for that either."

Callie nearly laughed out loud at his reply, instead she smiled - almost beamed in fact. She was used to being around people that accepted her history, but it was always somebody who'd been there themselves, or something similar, never somebody like Bobby.
When he offered his own confession, she did laugh, throwing her arms around him in a brief hug. Sitting back after a moment, she shrugged, turning serious again. "I was jus' worried y'd t'ink diff'rently of me when y'found out dat stuff..." she admitted softly.

Suddenly Bobby got pretty serious. This was something that was kind of hard for her to confess, he could tell. Of the things she had just confessed though, he really couldn't see where any of it was all that bad.
And then he started reading in between the lines. There was a lot in what she wasn't saying. Like...
Like...maybe she was a crack pusher. Yeah, maybe she hung out on the playgrounds of elementary schools and tried to get fifth graders addicted or something. Bobby shook his head. No. That was stupid.
Pursing his lips together he made a sputtering noise in protest.
"How bad could it be?"
Maybe she was part of a pornography ring and had to make dirty movies to just stay afloat.
HOW HOT WAS THAT?

She shrugged slightly, watching the sunset for a long pause as she gathered her thoughts. How bad could it be? She knew how bad it could be, she'd seen how bad it could be - and had avoided the worst of it.
"Jus'..." she shrugged again, how to explain it? Bobby seemed so innocent, a little naive really, it was...well, adorable. "People t'ink worse of you when you ain' had no education... and it's jus'....life on de streets is tough, it changes you, people don' always understand de t'ings y've been t'rough..."

There was a lot of things that Bobby didn't understand, but he fancied himself to be one thing for sure. He was a really good judge of character. And after a moment of hesitation where he could have dwelt on any of the things, whatever they were, that Callie might have done in the past...he decided something...
"None of that matters," he said to her after thinking about it. "I know I haven't known you that long...but I can just tell you're..." He didn't want to say 'a good girl', because...well...
"Well, you got a good heart anyway," he said in a totally teasing manner as he squeezed her shoulders again.
"And you're good looking. So that makes it all ok."
He was totally kidding. Except the part about her being good looking.

Callie was in shock, he was just so totally accepting, she was almost tempted to keep pushing, just to get some sort of rise out of him.
Instead she smiled softly, relaxing and leaning against him "T'anks Bobby..." she said after a moment "It means a lot t'me dat y't'ink like dat."
She was relieved enough about his attitude that she didn't bother saying anything about his joking - for now.

Callie leaned into him and Bobby felt good about his decision. It would have been easy to go either way with that. To totally freak out about whatever she'd done in her past that seemed to make her so nervous or whatever.
But he was the Iceman. Nerves of ice. Cool as a cucumber-
As they sat side by side looking out at the water, Bobby's brow furrowed a little. He didn't say anything right away. "I mean, it totally doesn't matter at all...but what kinda things are we talking about?"
His rich teenage imagination was working overtime. Knowing part of the story wasn't enough.

Callie tensed a little at his question, it worried her. He said it didn't matter, but what if something she said did? What if she happened to strike a nerve?
"Well, um, food an' stuff was hard t'get.." she started nervously "I..um..I stole a lot of stuff, got pretty good at it.."
It probably wouldn't help her case to admit she was a good thief, but she couldn't help it, she was a good thief and she was quite proud of that fact - and very proud of the fact she'd got good enough to feed herself and never had to resort to...other tactics.

Stealing? That was it? Well, not that Bobby really thought maybe that he agreed with that or whatever. But it was definitely better than a lot of the other options. Throw in the small little fact that she was stealing to like-feed herself and all that...and it didn't sound that bad at all really.
"That's it?" Bobby forced himself to sound a little disappointed. Kind of in a funny way. Because he was very funny. "Man...I thought you were some kind of bad girl or something." He shook his head sadly. "I gotta say...it's a little disappointing..."
But he only let it hang out there for a few seconds before smiling into her face.

Callie blinked at his reaction, definitely not what she expected - she was so surprised by it, she entirely missed the fact that he was joking. Then he smiled and it clicked, she blinked again, shaking her head in amusement. "Oui, dat's it." she said softly, gratefully.
She didn't know why, but his reaction was a huge weight off her chest, as if she'd just been waiting for him to freak out over this, but now she knew he wouldn't everything was all right with the world.
Comfortable now, she caught his gaze and smiled "T'anks." she repeated.

Bobby just shrugged off the second round of thanks.
The sun was getting lower in the sky and the ocean was lit like fire. "Speaking of food," he said out of nowhere. "Why don't we go grab a bite?" He hated ruining this fantastic moment, but his stomach was throwing a fit.
"And then maybe we can talk about my sins or something?"
He shrugged again.
Just a thought.

Callie smiled, he really was adorable, even his poor attempts at linking the conversation were cute. It was a good idea though, it'd be nice, a proper date, of a sort, going out for a meal. She nodded "Oui." she agreed "I'd like dat, sounds like a plan."
At his mention of his sins, she snorted "Yea right, y'r sins? Lemme guess, y'ra real devil right?" she teased.
