Okay, so, lots of geektacular movies been released very recently. Star Trek, Wolverine: Origins, Terminator: Salvation. I've had the pleasure of seeing all of them, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by all three. I had a good feeling that Star Trek would be good, and I'm glad to say that it exceeded my expectations. Origins and Salvation I didn't think would be as good as they were, so I felt happy to see how they turned out. If you go to watch Origins, just shout out "Mimic!" whenever they reveal Deadpool's name, and you'll feel much better about things. So, in our historic tradition, I'm opening up this thread for movie discussions of Star Trek, Wolverine: Origins, and Terminator: Salvation. Please, everyone, show up and post, if only to say that you liked the movies or didn't. It'd be nice to see how many people are still around.

Ooh, ooh, me, me! *waves hand in the air* OK, so the only one I've seen of these is Wolverine, but oooh, it was good. I mean it was totally wrong, but totally entertaining. And Gambit, eee! I missed the eyes and the accent, but he was totally cool with the bo-staff. Sabretooth was made of all things awesome and win too. I think he was my favourite character in the film. *pets him... carefully* Also... *glomps Desi* missed you!

Gah! Actually, my heart wasn't in that "gah." Missed you, too.
Yes, Sabretooth = awesome in that movie. Much better than the X-men movie version of Sabretooth given that, you know, he talked. Also, Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson was pretty hilarious.
"Oh, great. Trapped in an elevator with five guys on a high-protein diet. Guess dreams really do come true."

Wolverine was good. Not mind-blowing or anything but it was good.
For my money, Star Trek was easily three times the movie. I thought they hit every note exactly right.
As for Terminator, I was deep in the forest when it opened so I haven't seen that one yet - but it looks promising.

I've only seen Star Trek so far, but I'm planning on going to a movie marathon that's showing Wolverine very soon! (X1/X2/Wolvie in one glorious session). My sister and her boyfriend went to see Origins, and she liked it, but apparently her bf's brother is not allowed to see it because he's a hardcore Deadpool fan and they really messed up his storylines. :/
Star Trek I liked though! I had a really good time. Chekhov, Sulu and Uhura were by far and away my favourites though. I liked the fan shout outs as well. 'Damn it, Jim, I'm a doctor!' and 'Set phasers to stun', things like that.
I do kinda wish they'd make the female Star Fleet uniforms a little more sensible though! The miniskirts seem bound to stick.

Hey, I like the miniskirts. Wolverine was fun (though yeah, major Deadpool fans should probably stay away) but Star Trek was amazing! I laughed out loud many times, was on the edge of my seat and was absolutely awed by the effects, but they weren't so overly done that they distracted from the story like many films do. Definitely recommend it. Also, was I the only one that sat there going "Red shirt! You gonna die!" when the three of them suited up to parachute down to the drill? And I'm not even a Trekkie. It is one of the geek fandoms I never got into. I fail as a geek. *hangs head in shame*

I just got back from the theatre a few minutes ago. Saw Wolverine.
I wasn't surprised to find that I was really happy about it. There were (naturally) some variations in the story. Some made sense for the big screen, some I wasn't quite sure why they did it that way, but overall it was great.
And I agree, Vic was awesome in it. SOOOOO much better than the growly guy in the first movie.
Side note: there were a few scenes in there that reminded me of some scenes we've done here. Namely some of the camaraderie between Remy and Logan here, and the way Sabretooth and Logan have interacted in a number of scenes. I actually had a few flashbacks back to a few key scenes we'd done between Remy and Logan and Victor and Logan.

I thought of you a few times watching it too. I also had a few moments of "I can do that? Can't wait to try that out on Xre!" Then real life ate me. After this week is over, though, my schedule should be cleared up some and I should be able to get right back into the swing'a things.

You would like the miniskirts. I just think they're really not sensible. It's like how female barbarians in fantasy comics wear two circles of metal on their chest and a loin cloth and somehow that adds up to the full leather armour that the guys are wearing. I'm sorry, no. ...possibly, I've thought about this a little too much! I'm really looking forward to seeing Origins though. I have heard good things about it! Except for the Deadpool thing.

Yes, well, I've got some good news on that front. According to a friend of mine, who read an interview with Ryan Reynolds, if Ryan has his way, the Deadpool movie will not be a tie-in to the Wolverine movie. Not only that, but he's fully prepared to not be showing his face throughout most of the movie, meaning he's okay with the classic Deadpool scarring and the mask. And he wants to break the fourth wall.
As it turns out, in order to get into the character for the Origins movie, he read some Deadpool comics and liked them.

As it turns out, in order to get into the character for the Origins movie, he read some Deadpool comics and liked them. It's hard not to. Van Wilder as Deadpool is a stroke of genius. I couldn't help but think "Mimic!" either, though. I hope he gets fixed in his upcoming flick. Well, not fixed so much, but... I haven't gotten to see anything this summer but Wolverine due to schoolin', but I enjoyed it. As a military history buff, it was cool as all get-out to see Logan and Creed in battle after battle, especially the WWI trench bit. Creed is just reveling in the savagery, and Logan is beginning to have that "What the..." look. Sweet. I thought Gambit was more or less wasted in the movie, I can only hope they build on this movie version at some point. He was undeniably cool, but it seemed like he was put there just to be cool. It was fun trying to ID all the kids, I remember seeing Pietro in there and some others that rang a very faint bell. Wolvie was pretty good, Jackman pretty well nailed the character in the first movie. I was disappointed that he didn't meet up with the Hudsons upon his escape, though. Creed was great. I liked the look of the bulked-up X1 version better, but character-wise this version was much better than that grunting thug. I would've liked to see more Blob! Yeah, I called you Blob. Brian Cox is a better Stryker. Emma Frost? Oy.

There's a lot to like about Deadpool. I have a fondness for ugly guys who crack wisecracks constantly.
I think it'd be cool if they did an Exiles movie. Morph! Blink! TJ! There's a lot to like, and thanks to the latest Star Trek movie, people will be refamiliarized with the concept of holes in space-time and warp things.

Ok, I've seen Origins now! I had fun, I thought it was cool. Although Emma-composite made me do the WTF face at the screen. Also! They totally stole the Silver Fox storyline and left her out. It made me sad.
Like Beast said, it was good not awesome. The battlefield run was probably the best sequence in the movie.

Star Trek was just so WIN. Like, I've seen it three times and it didn't get old at all.

I saw Zombieland last night in an uncharacteristic "Let's go see the movies during the semester," night.
My God, that was awesome. As my friend put it, "It was the feelgood zombie movie of the year." It had everything a zombie movie should have (scary moments involving zombies and a group of survivors forced upon each other) without that annoying moral message at the end about how humans are the real monsters (for those of you who've ever seen a Romero zombie film). It made light of itself while still being an entertaining and somewhat dramatic piece of cinema.
Oh, and Bill Murray makes an appearance in the movie. Just FYI.
