Pete found rage building inside of him. Rage toward Jason. That was disgusting! He didn't care if it was the work of the Inner Circle, that bastard deserved to die!
But Christine was a telepath, and could probably sense Pete's anger. He didn't want to scare her anymore than she already was. He took a long, deep breath to calm his nerves. A cigarette would be nice, but this wasn't the time, nor the place.
Pete did the bold, crazy thing. He scooted over to her side of the bed and gently draped an arm around her shoulders. "It's real enough, luv. I'm bloody well convinced. And that's sayin' something, considering I can hardly recall my name sometimes..."

Christine hid a flinch when Pete put his arm around her - still afraid of having males touch her, mainly due to what Jason did to her. "Do you want me to continue? There's more," she murmured softly.

Pete withdrew his arm, getting the feeling that Christine didn't want that kind of comforting. It was a tactic Pete remembered his big sister using on him when he was upset. It always seemed to fix scraped knees, and broken toys!
He really wasn't good at this sort of thing.
"You don't have to go on if you don't want to, but I'm still listening."

"I'm not really ready to have men touch me yet, still skittish, you know," Christine said quietly. She lowered her head and looked up through her bangs. "The others, my friends, family, tried to seperate me from Phoenix - and it worked. But the Phoenix went insane when she lost me and ended up destroying the M'Kraan Crystal in the process."
She paused. "I had to become Phoenix again - to put the Crystal together. I died again shortly there after, but somehow, I revived and found myself in another world or what seemed like one. Spent about three years there recovering. I met a version of you there," she murmured.
She sighed softly. "Have I confused you?"

"Euh... yeah, sorry about... that. I'm not too good with this sort of thing, but I think you've figured that out already."
He waited for her to finish her explaination, only becoming a bit confused, and was a bit suprised that she had actually met another version of himself. "Have you really? So, was he as handsome and charming as myself? Pheh, of course he was."

"Of course," Christine said. "That's how I remember Excaliber. Brian, Meggan, Kitty, you, Kurt," she said, pausing, recalling names and faces. "Widget, Feron, Kylun, Lockheed." She laughed quietly. "I remember you, well, the version I met, claiming that Lockheed could talk. None of us believed it since he never spoke around us."

"Mangey animal bloody could talk! I'll prove it someday, just you wait!" Pete let out a heavy sigh.
"Can't say I have too many memories of them. I didn't stick around too long after Kitty and I... y'know... since she was the reason I joined, and the reason I stayed through most of it."
Pete drew his knees up to his chest and rested his arms atop of them. "So, keep talking. I want to know how this ends."

"Don't remember much of that world," she said, looking sad. "Just remember some adventures, and the best mates I could have."
She looked at Pete. "I suppose you've been following the news or do you want me to summarize what's happened?"

Pete tapped the side of his head. "Alcohololic haze, luv. That, added to getting a whack of memories that are mine, but not really mine... I think I'd best have you straighten it out for me."

"I'll do my best," Christine said, wrapping her arms tighter around her legs. "Someone posed as the X-Men and kidnapped the president. Now the US is in high anti-mutant frenzy. My team came to Europe, looking for Kurt, but we found another mutant in need instead. Wildchild. Who's supposed to be in Alpha Flight, but that's neither here nor there at this point."

Pete shook his head at Christine's mentioning the X-Men being framed. "See? That's what happens when ya stick ya neck out for someone. Now matter how hard you try, there's gonna be a group of people so set in their bloody ways, they won't listen. If I were Xavier, I woulda given up years ago." There was an apparent scowl on his face. "Which is a good thing I'm not Xavier."

"Don't remind me," she said, with a soft laugh. "That imitation you did sucked, royally. And Xavier is so not Picard1, so where the hell did that "Make it so" bit come from?"
1. Yes, I am aware Picard was Xavier. But they don't know about the movies

Pete was glad that Christine was laughing. He hated seeing women get upset. But that was usually due to the fact that he didn't understand why they were upset most of the time.
"I don't pretend to be a good actor. It was just a bit of fun. I'm missunderstood, y'see." The Star Trek reference caused him to chuckle himself. "Ha! You're a closet Trekkie! I was on to you from the start." He smiled over his knees. "You have to admit it, luv, that they're uncannily similar."

"A little too close for comfort," Christine said. "And guilty, I'm afraid," she added. "I'm a horrible Trekkie." She reached under the bed and pulled out a large puffy looking thing1. "Tribs," she said.
1. Toy tribble - they exist

"I wouldn't feel too bad. I have rubber Vulcan ears left over from a convention I attended when I was thirteen. I keep them in a box with me old Federation Uniform costume."
Pete poked the Tribble affectionately.
"Anyway, I think we've gone off topic, not that I mind too much, but I think you were getting to the exciting part."
