Jubilee felt him start to kiss her back, then pull away. She frowned slightly in confusion, tilting her head to the side as she looked down at him.
"Y'know, I'm not that drunk...ok, maybe I am." She grinned slightly, before looking at him with that same expression of hurt bewilderment. "Remy?"

Pushing her back a little more so he could sit up, Remy lowered his eyes and dropped his hands from her shoulders.
“I didn’t mean fo’ dis t’... I mean... maudit,” he muttered, running a hand back through his hair before forcing himself to meet her eyes. The hurt was obvious in them, and this time, he was the sole cause of it.
“Désolé, chere. Y’ were upset, an’ hurtin’, an’ more dan a little drunk. I shouldn’ta... I’m sorry.”
"What are you sorry for? If you remember, *I* kissed *you*. Not the other way around..." Jubilee pointed out.
Oh god, I'm so embarrassed...

“I know, it’s jus’... not dat it was bad, cause it wasn’t. Quite de opposite, really, but it jus’ shouldn’ta happened,” Remy stuttered out, feeling like a complete idiot. He couldn’t remember ever being at such a loss for words, or feeling like such a heel. He had promised to look out for Jubilee, but he couldn’t help, despite her words, feeling as if he’d taken advantage of her at her most vulnerable.
“I gotta learn when t’ quit, non?” he asked sheepishly. He didn’t want to hurt her, but it seemed no matter where this went from here, that’s exactly what he’d end up doing.

Jubilee couln't help but grin at his floundering to try and make the situation better. Inwardly, she was castigating herself for being so dumb. And made a solemn vow never to get drunk again as she only seemed to do stupid things and say stupid things.
"It's cool, Rems. Just...calm down before you hurt yourself or something trying to get your foot out of your mouth. It shouldn't have happened, and I'm not doing it again. 'Sides, it'd feel all weird when I'm sober. But at the moment, because I'm drunk for the first time in my life, I can admit that yes, my best friend is a sexy beast. Now we will never speak of this again."
Jubilee got up and wandered over to her bedside table, getting out a pack of cards and a bag of potato chips. She threw the cards, bound together with rubber bands at him, and grinned.
"Show me how to cheat at poker better."

Although Jubilee tried to play it off as no big deal, Remy could tell that there was more to it than that. This appeared to be yet another thing that would hang over their heads, unresolved. He wanted to offer her his ear if she wanted to talk about her parents, and he wanted to be as close to her as this other Gambit had been. But they seemed to have this habit of ignoring the issue, instead of talking about it. And he wasn’t sure he knew what to say.
“Y’ ain’ so bad y’self, chere,” he finally replied. Staying seated on the floor, he brought his knees up and rested his forearms on them as he watched her move around the room. Deciding that this statement wasn’t helping drop the topic, he said no more on the issue.
Dis is de anniversary o’ de worst day o’ her life. Jus’ cause she cried on y’r shoulder don’ mean she’s all better now.
“Cheat? Now p’tite, I never cheat. It’s all skill,” he replied, the cocky attitude returning, though the smirk didn’t quite reach his eyes.
Whadd’m I spose t’ say? She already tol’ me all dis once, y’ really t’ink she wants t’ start all over an’ tell me all de t’ings I spose t’ know?
“Poker ain’ always ‘bout de cards y’ have, but ‘bout de cards everybody else has. Y’ gotta learn t’ read deir tells. An’ y’ gotta have a good poker face.”
She’s smilin’ now, ain’ dat enough?
But even as the thought crossed his mind, he knew the answer was no. After all, he was the expert of smiling through his pain, and fooling everyone around him.

"Most people do call it cheating, when you notch the face cards," Jubilee said, sitting down across from him.
"So. We going to play for stakes?"
She raised an eyebrow at him.

“Raising both eyebrows at Jubilee’s question, Remy tilted his head to the side slightly. Folding his legs beneath him, he placed his hands on his knees and leaned forward slightly.
“I guess dat kinda depends on what y’ mean by ‘stakes’,” he replied, suddenly wary of were this was going. “An’ if y’ say more drinks, den de answer is a big non.”
"Oh, damn. And I was so looking forward to drinking more cough syrup," Jubilee said dryly.
She bit at her bottom lip, thinking for a few moments, then an idea occured to her.
"We could play for answers."

Remy almost had to hold his breath while he waited for Jubilee’s answer. Last time she bit her lip while thinking... well, we all know what happened then. But when she finally answered, he had to stop and think about this option. Answers were something he was reluctant to give out to anyone.
But if anyone deserves t’ know anyt’in’, it’s her...
“Y’ know how I am ‘bout m’ secrets,” he said, before grinning at her. “But fo’ you, anyt’in’.”
"How we both are about secrets," Jubilee amended his statement slightly.
"Ready to play then, Cajun?"

Dis could be good... fo' de bot' o' y'...
"Deal dem up!" he replied. Although he was sure he could win almost every hand, especially since Jubilee's tells would most likely be more pronounced in her intoxicated state, Gambit was determined to make sure that the secrets were dealt out as evenly as the cards.

Jubilee giggled softly as she cut the cards, then dealt them out. For the moment, not stacking the deck at all. She'd do that maybe later when she wasn't as silly drunk as she felt now. Nibbling on her bottom lip again, she studied her cards thoughtfully.

Looking at his hand, which was a horrible way to start the game, Remy tossed three of them to the floor, keeping the pair.
“I’ll take t’ree when y’r ready,” he said, watching her closely as she looked at her hand.

"Mmmmkay," Jubilee said as she took out two cards of her own.
She gave him the three, then picked up two for herself. She frowned slightly as she rearranged the cards in her hand.
