Amid all the chaos and suffering, Mystique made her way down the hallways to the room that Magneto had been staying in. The word of Logan’s death had spread quickly through the mansion and students and faculty alike were taking it very hard. If the Sentinels chose to attack right now we would not stand a chance.
Carrying two of the five duffle bags of weaponry, Raven found her way to Magneto’s door and opened it without knocking, slipping inside almost without a noise. There was somewhat of an understanding between the two of them, and she was able to get away with things that other mutants would never dare try. Men are such predictable creatures-whether mutant or norms they all have their weakness…
Magneto was sitting behind the desk studying her with a blank expression. Unslinging the extremely heavy bags from her shoulder she lowered them to the black leather couch with much metallic clanging. “Here is a taste of the weapons I have acquired for us.” She unzipped the bag and several large barreled weapons spilled out. “I imagine even these Sents have a weakness for a fragmentation grenade.”
Thunder had been shaking the building with such ferocity that Magneto removed the metal plating that had been covering his window so he could sneak a peek. The skies were pitch black and the trees were bent over form the wind and rain, practically looking like they were about to break in two. The panes of glass in the window rattled so much that he felt compelled to replace the metal-for fear that they would implode at any moment.
Just as the metal was back in place and Erik was once again seated in his desk pondering what would possibly have Storm so upset, the door to his room opened and in walked Mystique. She didn’t even give him a chance to speak, but just unzipped the duffle bag and showed him a sample of what she had stolen from the Army.
“Not bad Mystique.” He said lifting one of the grenade launchers with his powers and floating it over to him. “Now those soldiers who would not normally have it, will have range and destructive power to boot.”
Raven just stared at him with those eerie yellow cat eyes as he spoke, her face an emotionless mask. “These ‘soldiers’ are children. Barely even aware of what they can do with their own powers.” She held one of the grenade launchers up herself and turned it over in her blue hands. “Let alone how to handle one of these.”
She shook her head a little. “These weapons could help us or could make the war even worse for us, but we have very little choice it seems.” Tossing the weapon into the pile on the couch she said, “I suppose you have heard about Logan already.”
“Logan? I have not heard…” But the pieces of the puzzle were all fitting together. “I take it the away team has returned?” He lowered the grenade launcher to the desk and looked at Mystique with narrowed eyes.
“All except Logan.” He said, speaking the obvious. He lowered his head in frustrated silence and slammed his fist on the table. “I knew that was an ill conceived venture!”
Raven grabbed a towel from the closet and began drying her hair as Magneto processed everything. He has been acting very odd lately…ever since we came to the mansion. I intend to find out exactly what is going on.
“He was a great fighter and we could have used him in the battle that is most likely on the horizon as we speak.” She wrapped the damp towel around her shoulders and came over to sit on the edge of Magneto’s desk.
“And his loss will be mourned throughout the school for some time.” A fading peal of thunder confirmed her words. “It really could not have been a worse time for this to happen.”

Looking up from his desk Erik saw Mystique perched in an innocently seductive way, looking down at him with what he thought was the traces of a smile. He was very aware of her games with him, but only too happy to play along. It was a situation that was mutually…beneficial.
But not tonight. “The morale in the school will reach an all new low, and I fear you are most correct in your assessment, Raven. If the Sentinels attack when the mansion is mourning there will be more than one grave to adorn with flowers.”
He leaned back in his chair nonchalantly and stretched his mind out to try and read the elusive Mystique’s thoughts. She was hiding something, but that never struck him as unusual. She was a metamorph after all.

Reading his body language, Mystique could tell she was getting blown off. Just as she was about to say something to him her cell phone went off that was lying on the duffle bag behind her. Lithely, she slid off the desk and padded over to the phone. Picking it up she said “Yeah?” and her eyes widened a little for a minute as she listened.
“I’ll be there.” She hung up the phone and looked at Magneto. “Something has come up. I need to go pick up Rogue at the train station.” She didn’t leave any room for Magneto to argue, and opened the door and stepped out before he had the chance to say a word edgewise.
