Typical teenager.
She couldn't see that Samantha just gave a huge compliment about herself. The beauty inside a person always outweighs what is viewed on the outside. If she only knew the monster that lived within the depths of her soul begging to be released. It was clear that Kitty was even more upset when she tried to ammend things.
Then Melody spoke, and she realized how much she needed to completely control herself for her. The only way she could be sure of this was to ignore Kitty for a while. Cooldown time. It was fine with her.
"I'm not very good at picking out movies since I haven't seen very many since I came to the states. I'll leave that up to you two", she spoke directly at Melody with the utmost of sincerity, not even attempting to make eye contact with Kitty.
The cheetah blanket lay over the arm rest on the other side of the couch, thankfully, and Sam grabbed it while she sat curling her legs up on the couch to be as far at the other end of the couch as possible. She made sure the blanket covered her up to her neck practically, although the movements around the couch were extremely painful.

Even though Kitty would have preferred if Samantha had decided to leave anyways, for Melody’s sake she was glad that didn’t happen. The poor girl was trying so hard to fix a problem that she had no idea how it had started.
So Melody wasn’t going to pick a movie, and Samantha wasn’t going to pick on, so that left the decision up to Kitty. They didn’t understand what a big decision was! Movie choice was crucial to any movie night! It either had to be good enough that everyone enjoyed it, or so bad that they could at least enjoy themselves making fun of it.
“Okay, okay, I’ll bite the bullet. I’ll pick the movie,” Kitty said, sighing in mock exasperation. Hefting herself up from her seat, she winked at Melody as she made her way over to the entertainment centre. Scanning the titles, she spoke aloud as she made her decision.
“Nothing sad, just completely funny. Hmm... Well, When Harry Met Sally is probably the ultimate. While You Were Sleeping is just so sweet, and The Wedding Singer... Adam Sandler. Enough said,” she rattled off. “Wow, there are a lot of great romantic comedies beginning with ‘W’. Any of those sound good?”

Melody relaxed once things began to settle and Samantha decided to stay. She proud of herself that she managed to get both Kitty and Samantha to stay in the room without things becoming a claws out catfight, she hope the truce between them would last. Though from the space that was left between Kitty and Samantha she wonder if there was still possibility of that happening anyways, but she try not to dwell on that to much.
Now her only problem is to stop floating and everything would be just peachy. She picked up the bowl of popcorn, even though she hated it because the way it stuck in her teeth, and tucked her feet under her. She hoped the big bowl and the shifting of her legs would anchor her enough to the chair without making look like her floating was a problem.
Mel tilted her head curiously looked to Samantha as Kitty got up to choose the movie. “Came t’ the state? Ya aint from around here?” She asked with tilting her head to side from Samantha’s looks she figure she was a New Yorker, she pretty and moved flawlessly like the New Yorkers on TV always did.
Her eyes moved to Kitty as she began to list of movies. She smiled softly. “When Harry Met Sally was one of mah sister’s Paige’s favorite movies… That an a documentary of how hotdogs are made… “ She paused a moment in thought and then frowned. “Though Ah think she jus’ made us watch that over an’ over again t’ traumatize us all into being vegetarians…”

Sam didn't even notice the little flight situation going on with Melody. She was busy concentrating on the knife stabbing pain that continued to pierce her back muscles. They were getting worse, but she figured it was just the skin's way of saying "stop I need to heal".
The list of movies were ones Sam had never heard of, but the Wedding Singer rang a bell.
“Came t’ the state? Ya aint from around here?”
Sam looked over finally to Melody again allowing her attention to deter her own away from her problems. Even though a bit of sweat began to form on her forehead, the distraction proved to be the right medicine.
"No Melody, I'm from Pangea. It's a place far from her actually."
She gazed over to Kitty hoping that she had forgotten somewhat of their spew before, but she had highly doubted it. Teenagers have a way of holding immature grudges on people without allowing them to resolve their issues with apologies. But, whatever, she didn't need everyone to like her at the mansion, but it would have been nice.
"I recall seeing a commercial during a show I've become very attached to, Supernatural? Anyways, it was called The Wedding Crashers, I think. It looked very funny. Personally, I haven't heard of the ones you spoke of, but I'm sure you'll pick one that's quite appropriate for the night."
Please don't take that the wrong way.

So if When Harry Met Sally was one of Paige’s favourites, was that a vote for or against it? Kitty had purposefully not mentioned 50 First Dates because that movie just brought up memories of Bobby and the night she had crashed with him to watch it. It had been hard enough to suggest The Wedding Singer, but it really was too funny to not at least suggest it.
Still facing the seemingly millions of movies on the shelves, she giggled a little at the thought of anyone pretending that they loved a documentary on hot dogs just to convert people to vegetarianism. Being a vegetarian herself, Kitty enjoyed the thought, but even though she never hid her opinions on the subject, she would never try to convince anyone to change their eating habits.
Stopping her searching for a moment, Kitty suddenly felt her interest peaked by a single word Samantha said.
Pangea
As far as she knew, Pangaea was the name given to the land on earth when it had all been one continent. So either this woman was crazy, or it meant something else in her world. There was a legend about Pangea, wasn’t there? Something akin to that of Atlantis? Kitty couldn’t quite remember, and it really bothered her. She may be lacking in looks and coolness but, darn it, she was hella smart! It almost made her want to run upstairs and do some research. She felt like she hadn’t read more than a paragraph of any kind of book in weeks!
Shaking herself back to reality, she resisted the urge to start asking Samantha a million questions and went back to her search. Pulling out The Wedding Crashers, she turned and held it up.
“We have that one too. Should be good for a laugh.”
She could be nice. Civil. Nice and civil. Just one night of being nice and civil and then she could ignore Miss “I Judge Books By Their Covers Because It Takes Too Many Brain Cells To Look Deeper” from then on.

Melody tilted her head to the side chewing at her bottom lip trying to remember where she heard Pangea. She paused a moment thinking she heard of it in her Mutant Studies class and vaguely remembered them saying something about Pangea during the lesson on Savage Lands. “That’s by the Savage Lands, right?”
When talk turned back to the movie she was happy to found they had come to a decision without too much sweat or tears. “I haven’t got to watch that one yet.” She said in a cheery tone.
Mel now crossed her fingers and hoped they could make it through the movie being civil. Though even she could feel the tension between them. She was hoping the movie would relax everyone enough to so they can see that everything was misunderstanding and that they didn’t need to be each other enemy. Still she believe despite the truce they made a catfight was brewing, which made her bit uneasy for she never good with fights.
“This should be fun.” She said again in the cheery tone and then frowned wondering if her attempt of fake cheer was giving anyone else tooth decay.

“That’s by the Savage Lands, right?”
Sam gave her a nod in recognition that she was correct. The flood of memories came back to her as she sat and waited for a movie to be chosen. The sight of kids running around her playing and learning from her was the happiest of memories along with her mother. She missed that place, but she also never wanted to return. Leaving those memories there was where they belonged and only the delightful, enjoyable ones came back to the states.
Sam just remained quiet since everything that came out of her mouth was insulting or degrading to Little Miss Know-It-All. So, she just gave a small chuckle to Melody's words giving her encouragement that she had no intentions of arguing or making the night any more of a disaster than she had already managed to do.
Sam just wrapped herself up more cringing with every movement silently screaming in pain which was enough to deal with already.

She could be nice and civil, but what was the point of being nice and civil if she was just going to be ignored? She chose the movie as sort of a gesture or whatever, and Miss ‘Stuck Up Snob’ was just going to sit there and blatantly ignore her. Fine, whatever. Two could play at that game.
“Yeah, totally!” Kitty replied, the cheeriness in her voice rivalling that in Melody’s. Popping the DVD into the player, she grabbed the controls and bounded back over to her corner of the sofa. Flopping back down, she wrapped herself up in a large, fuzzy blanket and grabbed a bag of chips. One night of junk food. So what?

Melody was proud of herself that she was able to remember the bit about Pangea and the Savage Lands. She usually just horrid on remembering that sort of thing, Paige was the one that was retain everything she was ever taught and regurgitate it back at a drop of a hat all the while making it look easy. Her shoulders slumped slightly her pride quickly turning to twist of pain. She shook her head refusing for the moment to dwell on it.
She watched Samantha and Kitty both seem to have a thing in common, even if neither would admit it. Both seem as if they were as stubborn as the day is long. Her momma used to tell her that stubbornness was not a bad thing when you direct it towards the right thing but sometimes you just have to know when to let go. Mel was sure whatever misunderstanding happen between the two of them was one of these things that should just be let go. Thou she didn’t think it was her place to tell them this. So she just sighed and shook her head.
One good thing came out of their stubbornness was neither notice her minor floating problem. She push down the popcorn bowl more wondering if she needed something a bit more heavy to anchor her. For some reason she didn’t think any sort of snack food was going to make a good anchor despite the fact once she ate it it’ll take her forever to get rid of the pounds that it stacked on her.
She closed her eyes tightly focusing all her energy into turning off her flight field. She let out a sudden cry as she flew up a foot then her flight field disappeared sending her crashing down on the chair sending popcorn everywhere. Her kneels were sending tingling pain shooting through her from suddenly being slammed down on the chair. She bit her lip not really wanting to explain to the other girls what just happen.
“Umm… Sorry… Ah… Um…” Mel blushed slightly and bowed her head wishing she could pull her quilt over her head. “Ah’ll clean this up after the movie…”

Samantha's concerns were more now directed toward Melody as her appearance and her scent began to make subtle changes. Although Sam can detect changes, she really has no idea what's going on in the person's head. She can only read the body language and take a good guess. Being aware of the change, she supposed, was at least a sign of something not right.
Sam went as far as loosening up her blanket just slightly. She had no idea why, but she couldn't grasp the desperate feeling expressed in Melody's eyes.
Then from out of nowhere, she screamed and plopped down in the chair with popcorn flying around like it had just been popped. She was levitating?
Sam was dumbfounded at her mutant ability, but then again it's the Xavier mansion, what did she expect? She was amazed at her own agility despite the fact the felt like the grim reaper was coming soon to detain her body. The blanket was thrown to the side and she wound up nearly flying herself in speed around to where Melody was in her chair. With her heart racing, she placed her hand on her arm gently, not to stir her anymore.
"Are you alright?", she asked calmly.
“Umm… Sorry… Ah… Um…..... “Ah’ll clean this up after the movie…”
Sam looked at Kitty with more concern across her brow, not really understanding what was happening to Melody. But, it was enough to spark an interest in her well being. To make up for her blunder in the kitchen, Samantha decided now to see if her true self could finally show through and enlighten the enemy she seemed to have created.
"Do you want us to call Dr. McCoy?", she started looking up to Kitty, then to Melody. "I'm sure he'll be able to help you. I hear he's one hell of a doctor."

Shifting around to make herself more comfortable, Kitty adjusted the volume on the television.
“Okay, are we watching the previews or getting right to – “ Kitty started to ask, the DVD control pointed at the system when Melody’s sudden shriek caught her up short. Her head whipping around, she could do nothing but stare in shock as Melody shot up into the air and them plummeted back to her chair. Within seconds Samantha was by the girl’s side, but Kitty just continued to stare, wide eyed.
She didn’t know the girl, so chances were that Melody just didn’t have control over her powers yet. But try as she might to believe this, she felt that it was more about loss of control than never having it in the first place. Her stomach continued to drop.
Feeling Samantha’s eyes on her and hearing her voice, it took Kitty a moment to click into what she was saying. Shaking off her surprise, she nodded dumbly.
“Yeah, I could... I could take you right to him in, like, two seconds,” she offered. Well, maybe a little more than two seconds. They would have to get to the hallway first. Kitty knew first hand from a similar incident that dropping through the Rec Room floor took her to a place that they just didn’t want to be uninvited.

Melody didn’t look up at Samantha as she came over to see if she was okay. She absently began to pick the bit of popcorn in her hair. She wasn’t alright and she knew it. She didn’t think she could lie anymore and convince anyone otherwise. She bit her lip and remained silent.
Tears began to sting her eyes as the older girls asked if she wanted them to call Dr. McCoy. She wanted her Momma and she knew it was childish of her but she wanted her. She wanted to have one night of fun after suffering through so many miserable ones. She wanted her sister and Bobby to be alive again. She wanted not to be sick. She wanted a whole lot of things she just couldn‘t have. Of all the things she wanted Dr. McCoy wasn’t on the list.
Mel didn’t want to see the big furry doctor but not because she was scared of him, in fact she always liked him. She was just fearful of him confirming what she already figured out. The young southerner knew he would find out she was sick and then tell Sam and her Momma. She didn’t know how either of them would take it after both being through so much. She rather suffer by herself alone than make them suffer grief and worry over her.
She rubbed her eyes on the sleeve of her flannel shirt hoping they had caught her crying. She refuse to just break down and sob like a baby, partially because she was fearful she would start to floating again.
“Dontcha bother Doc McCoy. He’s busy with stuff an’ Ah don’t wan’ t’ both ‘im.” Her excuse sounded lame even to her and she doubt Samantha or Kitty would buy it.
“Ah’ll be okay.” Mel said in a tone once again suggesting she was trying to convince herself as long with everyone else.
She picked up her head giving both Kitty and Samantha a paper thin smile. “Really,.” She rubbed her eyes against her sleeve again and repeated. “Ah’ll be okay.”

If anything Melody did NOT look ok. She looked even worse since they came back from the kitchen with the goodies. Sam's hand was instinctively rubbing the back of her back as a calming measure and when Sam looked at it, she stopped wondering if it was a bit much. Nah, she had motherly instincts still within her from the past with all the children in her village and her experience after arriving in the states. Even though Melody was a lot older than the children she cared for, she still reminded Sam of their innocence.
A glance over to Kitty revealed her growing concern while she bit her bottom lip trying to figure out just what to do. Maybe we do nothing, but that isn't right.
Softly she spoke to the girl allowing her head to peer around and up to look her directly in the eyes. She kept her distance so as not to scare her.
"Back in the village where I'm from, I took care of little children. I was like a......um.....preschool teacher? I believe is what they are called here. Yes, a preschool teacher and caretaker."
She looked up to Kitty hoping this would work, then back to Melody, this time not leaving her eye contact.
"There was this little girl, Iona. When she had a bad cold, she would cough and cough much like you. Her mother just thought she had bad bronchial problems. One day while with me and the other children, she coughed so hard she couldn't breathe and I had to rush her to our doctor. She almost didn't make it as the doctor and her aide worked on her to get her breathing back to normal. Iona was diagnosed with asthma and if she went unchecked by the doctor, the next attack may have been fatal. So, I'm just asking that you at least get checked out by him to be sure there's no underlying cause."
She looked back to Kitty afterwards and just hoped that her story would encourage the girl to at least visit the doctor if nothing else.

Holding her hands over her stomach, Kitty felt like she was going to be sick. This was the reality she had wanted to avoid. She had been in Melody’s exact position not long ago, and although circumstances had lead to her being cured now, that might not be a possibility for Melody. As far as Kitty knew, Hank was no closer to a cure now than he had been then.
What was she supposed to do? She could tell Melody that she knew exactly how she was feeling, but then what? What was she supposed to say? “Yeah, I know I’m better now, but it was like this one shot deal thing that was used on me, so no cure for you. Sorry, tough luck”? Yeah, right. That would go over real well.
Swallowing hard, Kitty was grateful for Samantha’s long story because it gave her time to think. But when the older woman looked to her for backup, she just couldn’t give it. She knew she was supposed to agree and insist Melody get checked out, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it. She also couldn’t bring herself to pretend that this was only asthma. It didn’t matter if Melody got checked out today or tomorrow, there was nothing that could really be done.
“It’s totally up to you, Mel. I know that going to the doctor can be scary,” Kitty said, giving the younger girl a meaningful look, “but we’ll be there with you if you want. And if you’d rather sleep on for the night instead then Hank will still be there tomorrow.”

Melody’s brother Jebediah had asthma, because of that it made her Momma hover and worry when any of them cough. Then again a lot of thing made her Momma hover and worry, she thought as she continue to pick popcorn from her hair. She figured her Momma hovered and worried so much was because Pa was gone and their was only one of her to watch over all of them, that’s why she always did her best to stay out of the way and not be a bother.
The southern teen wished that Doc McCoy would just find out she had asthma or hay fever and that she wasn’t going to die. She knew that her luck wasn’t that good.
She looked up at the two concern faces watching her. Mel knew she couldn’t just dismiss their concern and act like there was nothing wrong. She wish she could just throw tantrum and tell them to both to just leave her alone but she couldn’t see herself doing that. It was either go to Doc McCoy now or wait till morning, from the look on both their faces she doubt that they would just forget about her. Melody figure rather than to have Kitty and Ms. Samantha track her down later to drag her to the med lab to just give in.
Her shoulders deflated like a balloon as she admitted defeat. She rubbed her eyes on the back of her hand trying to force the tears forming to just disappear. “Alrigh‘.” She said softly no longer having any fight in her. “Ah’ll see Doc McCoy.” Mel sniffled slightly and rubbed her eyes on the back of her sleeve again as she looked to the TV. “Too bad, Ah really wanted t’ see this movie.” She said softly mostly to herself, figuring once the doctor found out what was wrong with her she wouldn’t be allowed back in the rec room or around anyone else.
