Samantha was basically out of the loop when it came to the Legacy Virus and its effects. She had no idea what it was or what it could do to mutants. She basically believed that Melody was sick with pneumonia and refused treatment. That alone could kill her if gone untreated.
The look she got from Kitty was a bit concerning and almost made her believe that this WAS something worse and considered her action of taking her to the doc right away. Sam certainly had no idea of what her mutant ability was, but by the sounds of it, to her, it was teleportation if she could get her there so quickly.
“It’s totally up to you, Mel. I know that going to the doctor can be scary,” Kitty said, giving the younger girl a meaningful look, “but we’ll be there with you if you want. And if you’d rather sleep on for the night instead then Hank will still be there tomorrow.”
Kitty didn't look all that well herself, now that Sam gave her a closer glance. Maybe something is going around the mansion. Great, that's all I need right now is to be sick. Wouldn't that be a sight to see cause when I get sick, I tend to do...oh please don't let me get sick.
"Kitty is right, we'll be right with you if you want us to be. I know how frightening it is to see a doctor. I'm deathly afraid of needles myself and tend to become a different person around them", she said not divulging anymore information.
Melody seemed to be really upset about seeing the doctor and Sam put it off as nerves, but she finally agreed. But Sam also noticed something else that was an uplifting moment, at least to her it was.
"You know Melody, since you've had the tea I made, you haven't coughed. I know the stuff tastes awful and I should have warned you, but it did help. The way I see it, you have one more cup of that stuff and you should be able to at least enjoy the movie first", she finished looking to Kitty for some encouragement.
That was unless she thought Sam was wrong.....once again.

Oh God, oh God, this was just positively heartbreaking. Melody knew. Without consulting the doctor, Melody knew and it was like by giving in she was giving up. Kitty felt tears starting to burn her own eyes and she quickly lowered her gaze to her lap and blinked them away before they could be seen. If she had waited a few days, maybe… no. No point going there. What was done was done. And besides, from what Hank had said, after a few days it wouldn’t have been an issue. Had she waited, what little good that had come from Bobby’s death would have been wasted.
Losing herself in guilt and self-pity was also a waste. Melody needed those around her to be strong. She had to try. Not able to look at either girl, Kitty instead fixed her eyes somewhere between them. They were close enough that she hoped it wouldn’t be too obvious.
“Yeah, everyone deserves a night of fun, right? And what better cure is there for what ails us then movie night?” she finally said, attempting to force some enthusiasm into her voice.
Did you have to use the word ‘cure’? Ugh, could I be any worse at this?

Melody wondered how pitiful she must have looked for them to grant her reprieve so she could at least watch the movie. She was unsure how to respond at first for Guthries were raised never to accept pity it was one of the things her mother drilled into her head just after always stick by family and mind your manners and be respectful no matter what everyone else is doing. Then again she wasn’t sure it was pity they were offering. They might really thought it was no big deal for her stay and watch a movie and putting off seeing the doctor for a hour or two. She either had to decline pity as a matter of pride or gratefully accept an offer of kindness. Thinking about it made her head hurt.
She looked up at Ms. Samantha for a moment then to Kitty. Ms. Samantha looked like she genuinely thought it would be okay for her to stay at least till the end of the movie. Kitty on the other hand couldn’t seem to look at her as if she knew she was doing something wrong not forcing her to go to the med lab. She felt like Kitty could see the sickness on her and that’s why she refuse to look at her. She wrapped her arms around her legs and once again brought her knees to her chest.
The urge to cry struck Mel again. She was beginning to think that maybe she was doing the wrong thing. She could be getting everyone sick just because she was afraid to hear the doctor tell her she was going to die. As much as didn’t want to worry her family or be a bother to anyone, she knew that wasn’t the main reason she didn’t want to go to the doctor. Her main reason were a bit more selfish for a long as the doctor didn’t diagnose her she could hold on to the slim hope she was wrong. She realized now the longer she put it off the more people she could be making sick. She hated herself for being so selfish and possible hurting others all because she was afraid.
“It’s…” She started lowering her eyes to the floor as much as she was afraid she was now ashamed of herself. “It’s no big deal. Ah am sure y’all don’t want t’ be worrying about me all through the movie anyways. Ah don’t want t’ ruin it for everybody by coughin’ during the movie or floating off with the snacks. Ah will go t’ the med lab by myself that way no one has t’ worry. Y’all just sit back an’ enjoy the movie an’ Ah’ll be out of yar hair.”
She rubbed her eyes as she moved to stand. “Ah can catch the movie another time.” She said with a shrug as she stood up.
Mel felt light headed when she stood but force herself not fall back in the chair. “Besides Ah am big girl Ah don’t need anyone holding mah hand.”
Even as she spoke the words she wished she had her mother or brother to hold her hand, which made Melody, realize she sucked at being independent.

Samantha was oblivious to knowing anything about the Legacy Virus. Her idea of being sick was a bad cold that could turn worse, like pneumonia or asthmatic bronchitis. She watched so many little girls and boys suffer because the parents were too afraid to have them treated only to find out they had something worse. But surely that didn't happen in America. Surely those kinds of sicknesses were only native to far away lands that didn't carry the same technological advancements in medicine like they did here.
However, something in Kitty's eyes opened her eyes to the possibility that this poor girl's condition was more than she was putting on. Why wouldn't she look at Sam or Melody? Sam took it as she was afraid of something, what that something was, was a mystery at this point. Sam then watched the legs rise and the arms hug those legs as Melody struggled with herself in letting out tears on the spot.
You need help. What can I do to convince you without carrying you there myself?
Melody must have heard her thoughts and for a moment, she thought that she was possibly a telepath reading her mind. Shoot, Kitty could be one too. She still had no idea of either one of their mutations and felt slightly uncomfortable by the eyes shooting away from anyone else's for contact.
What are these girls afraid of?
“It’s no big deal. Ah am sure y’all don’t want t’ be worrying about me all through the movie anyways. Ah don’t want t’ ruin it for everybody by coughin’ during the movie or floating off with the snacks. Ah will go t’ the med lab by myself that way no one has t’ worry. Y’all just sit back an’ enjoy the movie an’ Ah’ll be out of yar hair.”
Sam's eyes went back to a matter of deep concern.
"You are certainly not in anyone's hair Melody."
She arose from her seat and mentioned she was leaving. Sam had to look up to her as she spoke.
“Besides Ah am big girl Ah don’t need anyone holding mah hand.”
Her eyes looked strange to her along with the paleness forming on her face. Nerves? Or was she getting ready to pass out? Sam wasn't taking any chances.
"Your right Melody, the movie can wait for another night", she started arising and looking at Kitty for encouragement.
"But, you my dear, don't look any better than when I first saw you earlier. Matter of fact, you look worse. Please let at least on of us walk with you. And don't worry, we won't hold your hand", she finished a little jokingly hopefully cheering her up to at least know that she wasn't alone.

(Totally sucktastic with the angst lately. I’m more in a fluffy, bouncy, spazzy mood, but here goes. ;D )
Despite their insistence that she could stay, Melody was going to go get checked out anyway. Good girl. It was a show of strength that she was going to need, and the first step, and Kitty was proud of her for it. The idea of letting the girl go alone wasn’t the greatest, but it was one Kitty completely understood. Heck, she hadn’t even told anyone when she decided to voluntarily quarantine herself. Well, Kurt, but she hadn’t really had a choice in the matter.
And then Samantha was looking to her for agreement, and again Kitty couldn’t. Her reasons were both understanding and selfish. If Melody truly wanted to do this part alone, then Kitty understood that. But there was still the guilt. Could she really go back down there and stand around and watch her get tested? The thought terrified her.
“Yeah, totally. It’s not a rental, so no late fees or whatever,” Kitty finally piped up, inwardly kicking herself for being a class A idiot.
Dumb with a capital Ass. Or the other way around. Whatever.
“If you don’t want to feel too crowded, I’ll just stay here and Samantha can take you to see H… Dr. McCoy,” she continued, looking somewhat sheepish when she looked up at the other girls. “But… find me after he checks you out, okay? And let me know how it went?”
Maybe she could still help. Hank could do some tests. Maybe the cure was still alive inside her. Maybe he could extract it and clone it or something.
Or maybe the only way she could pass it on was the same way Bobby did.
Was she heroic enough to do that?

Melody rubbed her eyes and pushed her hair out of her face. Her eyes looked to Samantha and gave her a weak smile. “Ah guess Ah could use the company on the way down.” She said softly knowing she really didn’t want to face Dr. McCoy alone.
She clasped her hands behind her back as her eyes bounce to Kitty. Kitty knew she was sure of it now. She wouldn‘t look at her or get close to her thou Mel couldn’t really blame her. She wondered if Kitty hated her.
Mel smiled slightly as Kitty told her to find her after Dr. McCoy was done looking her over. She now had some hope that Kitty didn’t hate her.
“Ah am sorry…” She paused realizing she was saying that a lot lately and she was unsure what she was sorry for at the moment.
Melody simply shrugged slightly staring down at the floor. “Ah am sorry for bringing down ya’ll night.”
She forced herself to be cheerful and not show that she was scared to death. She smiled brightly and tilted her head back. “Have a good night, Kitty.”
((I know the feeling, Kitty. I like happy and fluffy but Mel is stuck dark and angst at the moment. *sticks out tongue at Melody and shakes her character box*))
