Deefer had taken mere seconds to assess her surroundings when she woke up, recognising it as the Xavier mansion - this was not the first time she had been there. What was confusing however, aside from the jumble of memories fighting for recognition within her head, was the fact that this room very much appeared to belong to her.
Not only was she asleep in a bed she never remembered getting in (or wait, did she?), but there were things on the walls, familiar things, a photograph of her grandmother in a frame on the dresser, clothes she recognised as hers neatly folded over the chair.
So. She apparently lived her, but there was nothing but vague memories that attributed to that fact, and memories of two entirely separate other realities also needing her attention.
She sat very still for a long moment and processed everything until she could remember them all as if they had happened one after another. Clearly something had happened to the world, and perhaps one or more of these memories was false, perhaps they were all false, or all real. She wouldn't find out just sitting here.
Dressing quickly and making her bed, she stepped out into the corridor to investigate.

One of the more difficult things to do when one is sleep deprived is the act of actually staying awake. Granted operating heavy machinery was on that list as well, but Samuel Guthrie was not trying to drive a forklift.
He was just trying to read a few chapters of his a book in a quiet area, where he could just focus on the book and not on how tired he was. The search for said quiet area had been enough of a chore as it was, and Sam’s eyelids were heavy by the time he sat down in a chair that stood against one of the walls.
He really didn’t want to go to sleep. The things he had seen in his dreams terrified him. But the chair was so comfy. And it was so quiet. And…
Needless to say, it didn’t take long for him to fall asleep. The dream started not long after.
Barracks. Soldiers saluting him. His glance stays on a woman. There was a secret in her eyes…
Passion. Desire. Something primal, even more primal than the violence that had been so prevalent in Sam’s dreams earlier, stirred in his subconscious. His eyes stayed on her for a moment as he moved down the hallway. Her gaze just as intense as his. What he wanted, she wanted.
His gaze diverted from the woman for an instant and he found himself staring into an old looking mirror. He was covered in blood.
And he was smiling about it.
Sam jerked awake, gasping for air, the force of his awakening sent his book flying up out of his lap and across the hall. It turned a slow flip in the air before crashing to the floor.
It was going to be a long day.

Deefer had barely taken three steps along the corridor when she saw him sat there in the chair, fast asleep. The sight made her pause, frowning slightly. That was unexpected, she recognised him, of course, had seen far more of him than was on view today, but in a different setting...
Just as she was beginning to consider the puzzle, he jerked awake, sending his book crashing. Almost without thinking about it Deefer stepped forward, picking up the book and holding it out to him.
"Your book, Comma..." she stopped. That was wrong, wasn't it? He wasn't the Commander here. He was just... "...Sam." she said softly, the word feeling strange in her mouth, and slightly wrong. Searching through the variety of memories, she didn't think she'd met him anywhere else, so she'd never had to refer to him as anything but the Commander or Sir, no wonder it felt so strange.

Sam was silent for a moment. What did she almost call him?
“What?” Sam said trying to blink himself into a more awake state, he must have still been half asleep because he was sure she was about to call him…
Commander. Commander Samuel Guthrie.
His eyes went wide. He stood up rather slowly, clutching his book to his chest. Why did his own name make him feel so uncomfortable? All that was different was the title preceding it, and it had given him the chills.
Then he found himself staring at Deefer. He knew her. He had known her before, the mansion was a big place, but generally you ran into everyone at some point, but he knew her in a different way.
He had just seen her in a dream. Hadn’t he?
This was getting all so weird.
“Ah know Ah know you…” Sam said, trying to phrase his words very carefully, “But Ah don’t know if that’s the only way that Ah know you…if that makes a lick of sense…”
He hoped it did, because it clearly didn’t make sense any to him.

At first he seemed confused, though Deefer wasn't prone to second guessing herself and she fought the impulse to consider herself mistaken simply because it was him. His cautious words definitely caused a raised eyebrow, and yet again she almost, almost had to wonder, perhaps the Commander had a twin. No. This was him. Just... a different him.
"As far as I can ascertain, sir, we do not know each other outside of the reality in which you are my commander. If, indeed, that is reality and not an implanted dream or something of the sort." she replied crisply, still not quite shaking off the need to be professional and subservient - she didn't even notice she'd called him sir.

Alternate realites. There was a time when Sam’s knowledge of such things was limited to the sort of things he read about in science fiction books, but he currently had far too much first hand experience with the idea than most people would feel comfortable with.
To prove a point, the fact that she referred to him as “Sir” seemed to put him more on edge than the idea of the structure of the world-as-he-knew it changing.
So uh… were we soldiers together then?” Sam asked, “Or something like that… is that how Ah know ya then?”
He had a sneaking suspicion that there was more to it than that. How else could he explain her appearance in his dream

"You were my commanding officer." Deefer explained, finding it only a little strange to have to explain this to him. It wasn't that she was used to this sort of thing, but more like she was just able to take it in her stride. Maybe her mind just worked differently from most people's. Perhaps that was because she had been created, though at this point she had no idea if that was the truth anymore.
"We also engaged in sexual relations." She added, almost as an afterthought.

Oh well, that makes sense. I mean in my dreams I'm always leading armies or being salut-...
Sam's eyes went wide at her second comment. Then his face went red. How could he not remember something like that.
"So...were we... together?" Sam "artfully" asked, then he quickly added, "Ah'm sorry, Ah don't 'member any of it, Ah'm not tryin' to offend ya or nothin', but Ah'm just drawin' up blanks about the whole thing..."
He just felt bad now. Clearly there had been something going on with the two of them, and he couldn't even remember the whole affair. He must have looked like a complete tool.

"I am not offended." Deefer said simply, realising that some people might not have been able to sort through the confused mass of memories as she had, or may be experiencing them differently. In all honesty, she didn't have time to be offended, to busy being utterly fascinated by how incredibly different this boy was from the commander, despite being apparently the same person.
"No, we were not together." She explained after a moment's pause, interested at that assumption, he had gone from someone who was more than happy to use sex as a stress relief to someone who assumed it automatically meant a relationship. "It was simply...relaxation. Something we both needed at the time."

Lordy, Momma would have my head if she knew about that.
The whole discussion was making his head spin. First he was this bloodthirsty commander, then he was a bloodthirsty commander that seduced beautiful women.
It was then that Sam noticed that Deefer was, in fact, really pretty. He then noticed he was staring.
"So uh..what was Ah like?" He asked, trying to avert his eyes, "Ah mean, not in that way..."
Nice save.
"Ah mean, uh but what was Ah like as a.... commanding officer?" He added, laughing nervously.

Deefer allowed herself a faint smile at how utterly flustered he was by the whole situation. It was curiously adorable, if a little surreal given how diametrically opposite it was from the Sam she had known.
"You were... strong. Commanding, of course," it was in the job title after all "You didn't suffer fools, nor accept anything less than perfection. You were an excellent leader."
Almost enjoying herself, she couldn't resist the urge to add.
"You were strong and confident in other matters as well, but surprisingly gentle..." the little smirk on her lips suggested exactly which matters she was talking about.

She almost made the weird bizarro Sam sound like he was a good guy. But there was the dreams. And the blood.
He wasn't convinced.
"You were strong and confident in other matters as well, but surprisingly gentle..."
Sam felt his ears start to burn. There was probably a lot of color on his face. He was so suave. That was flirting right? Meaning he should flirt back, right?
He certainly couldn't look any more ridiculous.
"Heh. Sounds like Ah was...uh..." He said through a smile, trying to keep his cool, "uh..Good at what Ah did huh?"

Ok, so she was playing with him like a cat plays with a mouse, but she couldn't help but enjoy watching him squirm. Perhaps she hadn't been all that fond of him as a commander as she made out, and was enjoying the tables having turned... much more likely it was just so novel to see him blush, and he was still a very attractive man...boy...
"You were very good at everything you did." She told him coolly, edging just that tiniest little bit closer to him, oh so casually.

Sam audibly gulped. It wasn’t like he hadn’t had experience with “straight forward” women. Lila and Tabby both liked to play these sort of games with him, trying to see how much they could push him until he got flustered. He was familiar with this game
It had just been a LONG time since he’d played.
She was playing right? Wasn’t she?
Goshamighty she’s pretty. Quick! Be witty! Be playful!
“Well, Ah’d hate t’think that Ah disappointed anyone with th’way Ah did things.” Sam countered, trying to keep up.

Now then, wasn't that interesting... his reply may not have been said quite as smoothly as the commander might have done, but the fact it was said at all suggested there was a little more to this guy than blushes and sweet confusion. It made Deefer's playing a little less of a game and more... genuine. She wanted to see more of this other side. Maybe it made him seem more like the commander and she wanted that, maybe she just liked the look of it, either way she wanted to bring it out into the light.
"Of course, you seem like a very caring person, I'm sure you will be glad to know that you definitely did not disappoint me."
