Given Name: Raven Darkholme
Codename: Mystique
Age: Unknown
Detailed Description of Powers: Shapeshifting - limitation: humanoid
Originally from: Unknown
Known Family: Irene Adler (former lover), Victor Creed (former lover), Logan (former lover), and Kurt Wagner (son) - Graydon Creed is also her son biologically, but she refuses to claim him.
Physical Description: Her natural skin is azure and has a soft velvet texture to it. Her hair is at the moment long and blood red, as opposed to the crayola version of old. She is statuesque, but not overly tall, with a muscular build and distinctly feminine assets.
Personality: Mystique believes herself to be the epitome of uniqueness and a model for mutant and mankind and resents the fact that she must hide who she is to be accepted. Her mission used to be to destroy the pettiness of mankind and lead the mutants onto the path of self awareness and love. Over the years of taking on so many different roles, her sanity has begun to fray. She no longer remembers quite what her own original beliefs are or were and where she wants to end up. All she cares about is in the present moment and the fulfillment of whatever scheme she's latched onto. Rather than being a purely sexual, killing machine she is merely severely devoted to her present day causes, whether that be a PETA advocate or an enraged mother. Her mind, in contrast to her malleable body, is constantly fluid and seems to be the one part she can't seem to comprehend fully.
Other: Proficient in fire arms, hand to hand combat, knives, stealth, and seduction. Also knows a smattering of law and is very good at trivia games. You're around as long as she has been, you pick up a few things.
Bio: Mystique was involved with the mutant Destiny, and it is presumed that they went on adventures leading to Destiny's demise. It is uncertain as to how much of the story surrounding Destiny's death is true, as the figure seems to ghost in and out of her life, tugging on both the heartstrings and her mind.
Mystique has been involved with Logan, Victor Creed under an assumed alias, and several others, the least of which is Azazel. She is mother to both Graydon Creed and Kurt Wagner, though the one denies it and the other is unaware. She is fiercely devoted to the ones she loves due to her loss of Destiny and not wanting to repeat history, however has a bad tendency to forget that she loves them - partly due to her jaded attitudes towards relationships, but also because I think with all the face switching she genuinely forgets which emotions are truly her own.
In canon, she has a motherly relationship with the mutant Rogue, however I don't think I want to play out that relationship here. Although, I would definitely consider it if an opportunity was to present itself. She is probably one of the most varied characters I've read through, placing herself on all sides of the battle between mutant and man, and never really finding her place except in the role of succubus and sure shot. I would like the opportunity to give her more of a mastermind feel, using every tool she has to meet the ends she so fiercely fights for. However, if in playing her she takes me somewhere else, I'm sure that that's fine too.
And in the Interview:
Why did you choose our site?: It seemed really interesting when I read some of the posts. I thought I could really get into character here.
What about this character do you like?: She's just so lovingly bat-shit
Have you ever RPed before? Yes. Where?: All manner of table top and some LARPing with WhiteWolf. I was also in a lot theatre growing up
Please write a sample post for the character you want below: Swimming through the thick, sordid shadows of dreams, she wakes. Muscles scream in protest, and as she wipes the sleep from her face, she feels the tacky wetness of dried blood. How long had she been out?
She remembers holding the mewling babe to her breast, crooning sweet lullabies into his beautiful, blue fur. She remembers taking him to the church, to finally tell them her secret, to tell them she was ready to turn away from what she was and join them in their cause.
Fists curling and rage boiling in her chest, she remembers the priest dousing her in holy water, while the nuns took the child screaming from her arms. She remembers lunging after them in feral rage trying to protect her own, trying desperately to call out for mercy for her as a mother. She remembers her heart breaking and murder flying from her hands as she struck the priest again and again...
Then the others came. They chained her, prayed over her "possessed" body as she dropped her human disguise and lashed out again. When it seemed that too had failed, they dropped her in the coffin.
It was easy to break. Focusing all that fury into the palm of her hand, she punched through the rotting wood. Priests were poor, and so were the materials used to bind her. She tore the ropes from her body. She let herself revel in the crunch of bones as the nun ordered to attend her tried to scream out. Watching the life fade out of those sad, blind eyes, she whispered,
"I saw God through the darkness. He did not turn me away. He offered me solace. He offered me grace. And He offered me the chance to take vengeance on those who would lead His lambs to slaughter. You see...God is very human in His emotions. He too has lost a son." Then she dropped the lifeless body to the ground and made her way silently out into the night.
