Given Name: Cecilia Reyes
Codename: N/A
Age: 26
Detailed Description of Powers: Cecilia is able to generate a psioplasmic bio-field, which substantially increases her durability and acts as a shield. This field extends from her body approximately six inches at any given point and is always present, though normally completely invisible. Only when Cecilia detects a threat against herself will it take on a glassy translucency. And although the field protects Cecilia from physical injuries, as it is an extension of her body, she will still feel the pain of an attack.
Cecilia is also capable of manipulating the field and turning it into an offensive weapon. For example, by surrounding her fists with the psioplasmic force, she can increase her punching power (enough to severely bludgeon someone). Cecilia can also control the shape of the field to an extent, and has been shown to create deadly spikes that she can expel toward a target; however, this requires a great deal of energy on Cecilia’s part and will exhaust her quickly.
Originally from: Puerto Rico
Known Family: Colonel Miguel Reyes (older brother)
Physical Description: Cecilia stands at a normal 5’7” and weighs a moderately curvy 138 lbs. Though her appearance wavers somewhere between professional (the ever important pair of reading glasses are never far from her side) and relaxed, Cecilia jokingly admits that one thing remains constant about her look: she’ll always be brown. Brown eyes, brown hair, brown skin. Fortunately, Cecilia has yet to develop an aversion to the color.
Personality: Cecilia Reyes is an intelligent woman, and she’s sure to let that fact be known. While she doesn’t purposefully (at least, normally) seek to rub people the wrong-way, Cecilia is a no-nonsense kind of person and she won’t hesitate to put someone in their rightful place when necessary (of course, what Cecilia thinks is someone’s place is debatable). She simply prefers to deal with things briskly, making her one to get things done. It doesn’t stop there for this doctor, though; once one thing is done, she’s always ready to move onto the next. Staying busy and making herself useful is an inherent part of Cecilia’s nature.
Sometimes Cecilia can come across as insensitive or extremely stubborn as she’s very rarely afraid to speak her mind to just about anyone (it’s caused her to butt heads with people on more than one occasion); and while she may occasionally lack tact, Cecilia is hardly a bad person. She’s just a tough, slightly sarcastic, highly vocal gal who refuses to let anyone intimidate her, and in the process perhaps makes herself a tad bit intimidating.
In the company of friends, however, Cecilia can be quite personable and enjoys partaking in a bit of good-natured ribbing.
Other: Cecilia is a skilled doctor, and has heretofore been one of the only X-Men to be a real practitioner of medicine. On a completely different note, Cecilia only allows close friends to call her “Cece.” She finds it rather patronizing when the people she doesn’t particularly care for or know very well refer to her as anything other than “Cecilia” or “Dr. Reyes.”
Bio: Cecilia Reyes never wanted to be a mutant. All she ever did want was to be a doctor, and for a time she was one of the lucky few who got to live the lives they wanted to lead. She was Dr. Cecilia Reyes and she saved lives; by doing this, her own life had meaning and purpose, and that made her happier than anything else could. Working at Our Mother of Mercy Hospital in New York City with her status as a mutant secret to virtually everyone she knew, Cecilia was able to forget who she was – that is, until she was attacked by Prime Sentinels during one of her shifts. Though she was saved by her defensive shield (and a right-time, right-place Bobby Drake), Cecilia went through a period of time in which she seriously wished she hadn’t. Her cover was blown, and she wasn’t entirely sure how to cope.
But Cecilia wasn’t one to let herself wallow in self-pity for long. Knowing that she had to do something to put her life back together, she decided to temporarily join up with the X-Men. Working with several others, Cecilia fought against Bastion, who had been behind Operation Zero Tolerance and the attack against her, until S.H.I.E.L.D. interfered. Later, Cecilia returned to work at the hospital, though she was soon fired. It was then that she began to face the fact that her life as she knew it was undeniably over.
Shunned by her former colleagues, Cecilia decided that she would permanently ally herself with the X-Men, serving as one of them as well as their resident physician alongside Hank McCoy. And although Cecilia continued to privately mourn the loss of her old life for a while (and still occasionally does), these days the sadness is mixed with a new dream, a dream of someday opening her own medical practice where she can call the shots.
And in the Interview:
Why did you choose our site?: I still think it’s the best one around.
What about this character do you like?: She’s a smart, tough woman and that makes her pretty awesome, I think.
Have you ever RPed before? Where?: *waves* Yep, here as Amara.
Please write a sample post for the character you want below:
In comparison to the plethora of wackos sure to be running loose out there at that very moment, Cecilia didn’t think she was a half-bad person; if, however, by some freak error in the nice and naughty list she happened to end up in hell upon dying, she firmly believed that her soul wouldn’t spend eternity swimming in the quintessential lake of fire. Nope, she’d be doomed to perpetual boredom. More specifically, perpetual boredom in a hell that looked eerily like Xavier’s mansion. All the current mutie residents would be there too, of course, and they’d be driving her nuts per usual, also of course. Probably calling her “Cece” just because they knew how much that annoyed her. And because it was hell, there wouldn’t be anything for her to do but twiddle her thumbs and take it. Cecilia couldn’t say for sure, but she was willing to bet that there wasn’t that great of a demand for doctors in hell considering that everyone was already well, dead.
Speaking of boredom and things that were dead, Cecilia also couldn’t think of a better way to describe the current state of affairs at the mansion (the real one, not her imaginary Inferno version). Which was highly out of the ordinary for a place so large, to say the least. And while such silence was something Cecilia knew she ought to appreciate and take advantage of, (when else would she actually be able to hear herself think without any kind of interference from, say, an impromptu Frisbee game in the hall?) she just couldn’t. She hated to admit it, but the lack of activity was driving her crazier than pranksters like Bobby Drake could ever dream of doing. If that didn’t say it all, Cecilia wasn’t sure what would.
She was pacing now, back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. Hands on hips. Pony-tail swinging. Eight strides to cross the width of her office. Agitated didn’t even begin to describe it. Surely, she had something to work on. She just had to think for a moment. Documents to file? No. She had finished that yesterday morning; that’d teach her to be so smug about being ahead of the ball. Okay, moving on to the next avenue. Any recently sick residents to conduct a follow-up on? No again. Cecilia couldn’t think of a single person who wasn’t currently of irritatingly good health. If this kept up, by the time someone finally needed her medical expertise, she’d be rustier than a junkyard car. A trashcan would be a better consultant than her.
No, boredom decidedly did not suit Cecilia Reyes, and she was going to rectify the situation ASAP. Someone in the blasted mansion had to need assistance with something (anything) and she was going to find that person and she was going to help him. Or her. Whatever the case, she was embarking on a mission. Because that’s what doctors did, damn it.
