(I understand she might be coming up for apps - just wanted to get a bid in early, in case. )
Given Name: Lorna Dane
Codename: Polaris
Age: 23
Detailed Description of Powers: Lorna is able to conduct magnetic energy as pulse bolts, force fields, flight, and the manipulation of ferrous materials, absorb electricity to supercharge her own electromagnetic fields.
Originally from: San Diego, California
Known Family: adoptive parents, Adam and Susan Dane; biological parents unknown
Physical Description: Lorna is a very pretty girl, with striking green eyes and hair to match. Her hair is shiny and long, falling to just below her shoulder blades in loose waves. She loves her hair, and varies the style on her whim – it can be manipulated into ringlet curls with the right product and a good dose of patience, or worn sleek and straight with the help of a good flat iron.
She’s a little taller than average (5’7”), and has a slim yet curvy figure. Her features are sharp and strong, and she can look a little intimidating when she’s serious – but when she smiles, her whole face lights up, transforming her from merely pretty to absolutely beautiful.
In order to maintain the illusion that her green hair was simply an act of rebellion, Lorna acquired multiple piercings in each ear – five “regular” in the right ear, and the left boasts the matching five, plus a tragus and three helix piercings. At the base of her neck, partially hidden within her hairline, is a small tattoo (a little bigger than a quarter) of the Celtic Triskele symbol.
Lorna’s choice of dress for everyday wear is casual chic – she can grub it up with the guys without a second thought and has a strong tomboy streak, but she still likes to look decent doing it. When she gets dressed up for a night out (which isn’t nearly often enough, by her estimate), she’ll go with something trendy and cute, with a good dose of sexy.
Personality: For the most part, Lorna’s a very laid back, very nice girl. She tends to roll with the punches, and smooth things over if they get icky for any reason. She’s a peacemaker and a fixer at heart.
She’s very independent and strong-willed (read: stubborn), and is utterly devoted to her friends. She does have certain standards in regards to the people she chooses to spend time with, though, and she does not suffer fools - and god help the stupid.
Lorna loves to laugh and have a good time. Make her laugh, really laugh, and she’ll love you forever.
She’s got an impressive temper, but it’s usually kept under tight control. It takes a lot to set her off, but then watch out. She’ll blow up but good, but then let it go. Unless she or someone she loves has been seriously wronged, in which case she can hold a grudge like nobody’s business.
Her living space always seems to be in a state of organized chaos. She’s messy, and hates to clean or straighten up. As long as she knows exactly where everything is (and she usually does), she doesn’t care if she has to dig through a pile of papers or clothes to find it.
Other:
Likes: music, reading, movies (secretly loves chick flicks that’ll make her cry), tv, playing poker or pool, swimming, going dancing, being outside, hanging out with “the guys”, lazy days with absolutely nothing to do, jewel tones (specifically the color purple), her friends.
Dislikes: stupid people, ignorance, bigotry, feeling restless, mornings, her friends being in danger, cleaning anything up, being cooped up inside for too long.
Bio: Lorna’s mutation – or at least part of it – was obvious from birth, when she was born with a mass of bright green hair.
When Lorna was still an infant, her parents were killed in a plane crash, and she was adopted by her father’s sister and her husband. She was given the last name of her new parents, and grew up knowing only that she was adopted, none of the details. To hide the very obvious physical mutation, Lorna’s parents dyed her hair brown. At 13, though, Lorna insisted they stop, and she let her natural color shine through. (Most people simply assumed she was going through a rebellious stage, and the green hair was dyed.)
All in all, Lorna led a very normal life. She was a good student, rarely got into trouble (well, rarely got caught is more like it), and practically lived in the water, be it the ocean or, once she hit high school, the pool. After watching from the sidelines in ninth grade, Lorna decided to try out for the swim team in sophomore year (and earned a spot, quickly becoming one of the better members of the team).
Her powers of magnetism developed slowly. It started out with small, odd occurrences – electronics would short out when she was nearby. Metallic objects would seem to be drawn to her. She didn’t really put two and two together until she was chased through her house by the entire contents of the Dane’s cutlery drawer.
Shortly thereafter, Lorna was contacted by a Professor Charles Xavier, and he offered her a place in his burgeoning school for ‘gifted’ students. It was there that she finished her high school education while learning to control her powers.
After high school, Lorna attended Washington University, where she studied geology, with a specialization in geophysics, and each summer she’d return to Xavier’s rather than going home to San Diego. Unsure of what she wanted to do after completing her degree (options included backpacking across Europe or pursuing a Masters Degree, neither of which really called to her at the time), Lorna got her teaching certification and returned to the Xavier Institute, hoping to be able to help other mutant kids while she tried to figure out just what it was she wanted to do when she grew up.
And in the Interview:
Why did you choose our site?: Referred by another player. And despite the eye strain the flashing background causes, I liked what I saw. ;-)
What about this character do you like?: I’ve always loved Lorna. Simple as that. I’ve played her in one incarnation or another for more than four years.
Have you ever RPed before? Where?: Yup, lots of places!

It had been a long, loooooong day. She was tired from grading, tired from working out, and just generally tired. Relaxing seemed like the best option. However, as Lorna neared the rec room, she heard the TV already on, and her nose crinkled in irritation. She really needed to get a TV in her room, so she could hide on days like this.
Peering around the corner, she instantly grinned when she saw who was already occupying the room. He was watching something random on Discovery, from the looks of it, which suited her just fine.
Schooling her expression into one of absolute dejected, she moped her way over to the couch and gave Jamie Madrox her very best puppy dog eyes. She could tell he was instantly suspicious, but ignored the look he shot her.
“Jaaaaaaaamieeeeeeee…” Lorna just barely managed to keep the drawn out name from sounding like a whine. Without waiting for an invitation, she sat down next to him and looked as pathetic as she possible could. “Will you rub my back for me? Pleeeeeeeeease?”
It was a very well-kept secret that Jamie gave, hands down, the best back rubs ever. And foot rubs. And it was a secret because Lorna simply didn’t want to risk having to share her favorite personal masseur. If the other women in the mansion found out? The poor guy would never get any peace.
“What’s in it for me?”
She batted her big green eyes at him sweetly. “You’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made me feel really, really good?”
The suggestiveness of her words, in direct conflict with her innocent expression, was just mean, she knew, but she really couldn’t help herself. It was too much fun.
His eyes narrowed slightly. “You’re a cruel woman, Lorna Dane. People think you’re nice, but they’re wrong. Wrong. You’re the devil.”
“But you love me anyway, you sick bastard,” she grinned, swiveling on the cushion, turning her back to him. “I’ve got a knot the size of a baseball by my right shoulder blade, and I need it gone. Help.”
