Given Name: Alex Summers
Codename: Havok
Age: 21
Detailed Description of Powers: Alex is a mutant who absorbs cosmic radiation (gamma rays, ultraviolet light, microwaves, etc.) and converts it into heat which he projects from his body at all times. He can forcefully expel this energy from his body either radially outward or along a specific vector (usually along the length of his arm). When expelled in such a way, it superheats the air and creates plasma, a state of matter in which particles become ionized. This typically creates an electric blue or fire orange beam, depending on whether or not the blast fired was of high power or low power. At the lowest level, Havok’s plasma blasts can cause disorientation and mild burns. At its most powerful, it can melt through most metals and even certain ceramic composites in very little time. In addition, Havok is immune to the deleterious effects of heat and radiation, and he is also immune to his brother’s optic blasts.
Originally from: Honolulu, Hawaii
Known Family: Scott Summers (brother)
Physical Description: Alex stands at six feet and weighs in at a hundred eighty pounds, posing a striking figure but not one that gathers immediate attention. He has dirty-blonde hair and blue eyes, and facial features similar to his brother but more rugged. Well, at least he’s capable of pulling off the rugged look more than his brother is. He is fairly muscular and many women find him attractive.
Personality: Alex is a carefree, easygoing type of smart-ass. He can be formal and serious when the need arises, but he doesn’t like it all that much, preferring to do his own thing. He has a tendency to doubt his capabilities, making him less effective than he could be, almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Other: Alex is allergic to tomatoes.
Bio: Alex Summers started his life normally enough, being loved and cared for by his parents with his brother, Scott. Then, on one fateful day, he and his family were flying back home when the plane they were on started falling out of the sky. His mother, Katherine, gave the two boys the only parachute (it was his father's plane) and pushed them both out of the doomed vessel. Alex doesn't quite remember what happened after that point.
Alex woke up in a hospital, dazed, confused, bruised, and beaten. He was treated there for some time until he was sent to an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska along with his brother. Unfortunately, Alex was adopted before Scott, and taken in by the Blandings. Their son had been killed in a car accident, and they tried to make Alex be his replacement, which he did as best he could. He had little contact with Scott during this time.
That is, until Alex's powers manifested when he turned fourteen and critically injured an older boy who was bullying his foster sister, sending him to the hospital with second-degree burns. From that point on, Alex became very wary of his abilities, and tried to get in touch with Scott to see if he had developed something similar. He learned from Scott about the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, but his parents refused to let him go. So, instead, he learned to control his abilities, and his emotions, by himself.
Shortly after graduating high school went to NYU to study particle physics. It was during his studies that he learned the full gamut of his abilities, and came to understand how they worked.
And in the Interview:
Why did you choose our site?: Because I like it here.
What about this character do you like?: I like that Alex is basically Scott minus the stick in his butt. He struggles to be his own person despite the constant comparisons to his brother. The guy’s got a lot to deal with, but he handles it well.
Have you ever RPed before? Where?: Yes. Here, as Desperado
Please write a sample post for the character you want below: It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood, all things considered. The sun was shining, the air was crisp rather than freezing, and the dorms were emptied out for Spring Break, so he was pretty much alone.
Alex would have gone somewhere, but he didn’t have the money to splurge. He would have gone back home, but there was only so much of his parents that he could stand. He would have done something fun, but he enjoyed soaking up the sun on his balcony and resting.
Oh, yeah. Good day. Which meant that in about three seconds.
Brrriiiiinnnggg! Right on cue, his cell phone rang. Luckily for him, he had anticipated this and placed his cell phone next to his lounge chair. He reached down and picked it up, checking to see who was calling him. It wasn’t important, so he ignored it and went back to soaking up rays.
The reason he didn’t put his phone on silent was because more than once he had actually missed a very important phone call because of it. Of course, all of those important phone calls were him being told that he hadn’t gotten the internship that he had applied for, but someday one would come back positive. He hoped.
None of those dreary thoughts, though. Today was relaxation day. He only wished he had a good book to read, but oh, well. He would just sit back and chill, maybe take a well-deserved nap.
Today was a good day.
