Given Name: Jean-Paul Beaubier, formerly Martin. AKA JP, The Elf, Pixiesticks.
Codename: Northstar.
Age: 22
Detailed Description of Powers: Utilise random atomic motion found in cells to either move at super-human speeds (whilst running or flying, as well as localising it to particular limbs), with increased durability from the cells binding together; or generate a phase-shift in the particles to generate both blinding cascades and powerful bursts of light with the natural accompaniment of searing heat involved. Direct Light and Ambient Energy Absorption to compensate massive energy usage. Pointed, elven ears which provide a degree of enhanced hearing. Heightened physical attributes and sensory/cognitive processes in order to compensate for the effects of moving at great speeds (Natural Joint Protection, Ability to process information at high speeds etc). Eyes that respond quickly to rapid changes in light conditions. Degree of resistance to self-generated heat, untested on outside sources. Slight ambient glow whilst standing still, more noticeable in the dark. Slight white-light based energy trail.
Originally from: Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Known Family: Jeanne-Marie Beaubier (Sister); Sandrine Beaubier (Mother); Un-named Father; Eloise Martin (Aunt); Ivor Martin (Uncle).
Physical Description: Lithe, Skinny, Athletic Build. Elven Ears. Shaggy, Silvery-Black Hair. Grey Eyes. Sharp nose. Defined features. Natural Pout. Pale, Glowing Skin tone.
Personality: Jean-Paul is a free and fiery spirit. If all is well, Jean-Paul is understanding, caring, attentive with the natural, teasing wit of an older brother. However when crossed, he can turn to an Iron Fist and an Acid Tongue, taking no prisoners and going out of his way to make it known that that person has done wrong, even holding grudges deeply and intently with unrelenting ferocity. This loyal, bulldog-like streak lends itself to a natural stubbornness, meaning that Jean-Paul is very reluctant to back down, even when misled or wrong. He forms deep friendships and is deeply hurt by any form of betrayal. The speedster also possesses a deep founded confidence, both emotionally and sexually, which can often be slightly over-powering and abrasive to some.
Other: Jean-Paul speaks fluent French and a few phrases of Spanish, Portuguese, German and Japanese; as well as mastery of British, French, Quebecois, American and Canadian Accents. Quick typist and knowledgeable in Shorthand, having Journalistic pretensions and his own blog, as well as being a Twitter fiend.
Bio: Jean-Paul was born into tragic circumstances to the black sheep daughter of a wealthy Quebecois family. Rescued relatively from the womb after a car crash which brought about his mother's death, his twin sister was less fortunate, finally being delivered but past a thresh-hold that the Doctors' could not guarantee that would not lead to some sort of mental impairment, be it some sort of special need or later surfacing mental illness. Their appointed guardian and maternal aunt, despite her reluctance, was strong-armed by her rising-star politician husband into handing Jeanne-Marie to convent. With the right amount of 'financial support', the girl would be properly taken care of and Ivor would gain the son and heir that he always desired but Eloise could never provide.
And so Jean-Paul began a life of being raised by a series of Nannies and Au Pairs, being occasionally wheeled out for social occasions before being packed away to an English boarding school, from which his Uncle expected the young boy to emerge at 18 ready to go off to University to follow in his foot-steps as a fine, upstanding young politician in training.
Not really taking into account the fact that, to Jean-Paul, his Uncle represented everything in life that he loathed, detested and just plain didn't like. The slimy, bigoted, sneering, toupee-wearing, elitist, Conservative, pencil-pushing, party-line jobs-worth who, in what little time he spent with his nephew, was bitter, resentful, demanding and hypocritical consistently highlighting the young boy's failings. A horrible cycle of behaviour feeding views, views inspiring behaviour, the more Jean-Paul grew to dislike Ivor, the more he fought against him and in turn Ivor picked up on this and chastised the boy, feeding the dislike.
Over his time in boarding school, Jean-Paul began to turn into an antithesis of his Uncle, bucking rules and trends and fighting the corner for the little man, being as open-minded and as understanding as possible. Being an outsider on his arrival because of his French-Canadian accent, Jean-Paul's subversive nature and acid tongue garnered a cult following amongst some of the more reserved or weaker boys, and a degree of respect or at least tolerance from the stronger, or more abrasive personalities, even sometimes attracting a VERY different sort of attention. As with any all-male environment containing lots of over-testosterone-d, burgeoning teenagers, boy-on-boy sex and sexuality was fast, loose and abundant. This made the young Canadian's strange mix of softer features, glowing white skin, defiant personality, and natural intensity a natural draw to those who were open to the idea, be they actually gay, slightly confused, desperate or a subscriber to the 'A Hole is a Hole' Man-Whore Methodology, and Jean-Paul made no bones about it.
What caused a little more tension, at the tender age of 15, were the more noticeable physical changes happening, the first being the gradual point forming on his ears. Luckily Jean-Paul wore his hair shaggy and it was very rare that anybody got intimate enough to play with his hair. What was more apparent, luckily (for Jean-Paul), to an equally understanding room-mate was the sheer inability to get any sleep with Jean-Paul in the room, as he had become a human night-light. Why homosexuality was a tolerated underground necessity to most, the predominant position on Mutancy was negative. Violently so, in fact. But the young Elf, as his sleep-deprived room-mate called him, was foolishly blasé about it and life went on.
A few months later, just days after a late night tryst involving one of the more 'aHiaH' types, where Jean-Paul unknowingly nearly blinded his partner on climax, Jean-Paul came within inches of being garrotted. During an athletics session, Jean-Paul was helping to measure the distances of the Javelins that were being thrown, and whilst taking down a number, Jean-Paul had within a few split seconds heard the shouts going up, turned to look, caught sight of a downward arcing javelin just a few feet from his face and found himself on the other side of the boundary hedge a few dozen yards away from where he originally. What had happened was Jean-Paul's last conquest had anti-mutant tendencies, gabbed to his friends who arranged a decoy injury to distract the monitoring teachers and lead to there being one less mutant in the world, not banking on the Elf suddenly developing another aspect to his powers.
Naturally, attempted murder caused quite a stir amongst the school's populace, however the perpetrator held familial ties to several highly valued patrons to the School, and as within the students a large number of the senior staff held anti-mutant sentiments and no amount of trouble was needed to both cover up the Javelin incident and use Jean-Paul's history of abrasive behaviour to have him expelled. And, of course, Jean-Paul's guardian needed to be informed.
To say that Uncle Ivor was displeased would be, as it were, a grossly-wild and inaccurate understatement of the like that the world had never seen before.
Jean-Paul was quite politely informed, by an Aide over the phone, that he was never to come back to Canada or contact the family again, that he would be left to fend for himself in a foreign country with a meagre allowance wired to him out more of necessity than generosity, and there he would be free to not disgrace the family any more than he already had done.
To say this riled Jean-Paul would be, once again, a grossly-wild and inaccurate understatement of the like that the world had barely gotten over two paragraphs previous.
The Elven teenager was out for blood. He got in touch with a growing support charity, who then put him in touch with a Rising-star Barrister and Mutant Rights Activist called Evageline Whedon, intending to mount a campaign to sue BOTH the School for unfair dismissal, and his Uncle in order to be Emancipated. The proceedings were lengthy and well publicised, and Jean-Paul and Evangeline found themselves rising in notoriety due to the growing public support in favour of their case. After a few months, Jean-Paul had won his freedom from his Uncle and much more substantial allowance than the pathetic sum he'd faced earlier, as well as a coup de grâce of ruining his Uncle's mainstream political name (though allowing him a more prominent position within a leading, Canadian, Anti-Mutant Organisation). The School, fearing the same fate would befall them, settled hastily out of court.
Flushed with money and freedom, Jean-Paul was quick to repay the debts of those who'd supported him. Splitting half of his winnings between Evangeline and the charity that had put him in touch with her, earning a fast friendship with the former and a debt of gratitude as well as a patronage from the latter, before using the rest to fund a dream-life of travelling and experience and learning to escape from the celebrity and life in the public eye his trial had brought about.
Five years on, Jean-Paul Beaubier has faded into semi-obscurity, doing odd-jobs and picking up strange skills all round the world, chronicling his experience in a successful travel column under the pseudonym 'P.B. Johnson', having been happy to live each day as it came. However, Jean-Paul found the nesting instinct kicking in, and has begun to think finding somewhere to settle and study might not be a bad idea.
And in the Interview:
Why did you choose our site?: Recommended by your Cannonball, who's an old friend and a frequent RP buddy. He's been trying to get me over here for many a moon and, having been out of action for a while and looking for a decent RP site to start up again at, I can't think of a better place. Especially if it means a chance to pair up and work with Kyle again.
What about this character do you like?: He's a hardcore and cool bundle of characteristics that make RPing oh so fun and interesting for me, and possibly for the other people. Just depends on how willing you are to push the boundaries of your character. </trumpet blowing>
Have you ever RPed before? Where?: Several places, from reputed to not-so good, but always with kick ass people and that's the most important part.
Please write a sample post for the character you want below:
Jean-Paul was awake. He'd not actually slept. He never really did in cases like this. He often just laid there and watched his companion for that evening and let his mind tick...
Tonight, the elf had slunk out of bed, and perched himself on the window-sill, feeling the moonlight and the warm air dancing gently on his bare skin as he maintained his voyeuristic vigil. This one was breathing gently, and JP couldn't help but be mesmerized by that naturally rhythmic rise and fall of a wonderful physique.
But from the moment the Jean-Paul had met him, and every moment after, the Speedster was painfully aware that the moment would be fleeting. That when it came down to it, that wonderful physique had only been after one thing.
Companionship never felt so empty, so lonely...
"Dick."
Wish me luck...
