"Yeah, a long time ago, I'm sure," Jubilee said, unable to stop herself from picking on him a little. He just made it so easy. It wasn't fair to put a target in front of her that large and expect her not to singe it a little.
He threw some snowballs up into the air and she tracked them with her eyes, before sending bright pink pafs zapping through the middle of them and blowing them up. The pafs exploded with a sharp crack and sizzle sort of sound. There was nothing to this sort of thing - Aunt Hope made her skeet shoots a lot harder. And usually she was being shot at at the same time! This was nothing.
"So Frostee, what do you do the rest of the time? When you're not playing pirates."

Bobby’s face lit up with surprise and glee when Lee shot down his snowballs with bright pink missiles. The streaming lights punctured the compacted snow and for a second the snowy orbs seemed to glow. Then one by one they burst into sizzling explosions that sent powdery snow drifting down all around them People turned their heads upward and more than one fan opened their mouth to catch the precipitation as it fell from the night sky.
Lee seemed unfazed by the whole thing, but Bobby was eating up the attention. He bowed a couple of times to the applause and then turned to his partner. “This is the real star,” he said with a gesture to her. “As lovely as she is gifted.” It sounded good. And she was pretty. Not that he was hitting on her.
Not that he wasn’t.
With an arm casually around her shoulder, he backed her away from the crowd. “Thank you,” he said repeatedly. “More shows to follow…” Of course he didn’t know if that was true, but he had to say something. He didn’t say anything until they were a distance away, and he removed his arm, turning to her with excitement. “That was freaking awesome! You rock, you know that?”
He scratched his head.
“What did you ask me? What do I do?” He shrugged. Training, working out, playing with other super kids, teasing Kitty, Danger Room escapades, saving the world. “Not much. I mean, I…stuff. I like…you know, we should do this again. We could make some money.”

Jubilee smiled and waved as Bobby pointed to her, wondering if she should slip out of her jacket. People always liked a not-really-dressed pretty girl. It was a failing, but there it was. You couldn't argue with what made the world go round.
"Here all week!" she said cheerfully. Well, hopefully, here for a lot longer. "Thank you, hope you have a good time at the carnival!"
She stiffened as he put an arm around her shoulder, but tossing him over it with a judo throw seemed illadvised. It was just...gah, no touchee! What was it with some people and the inappropriate touching? She didn't even know him, they'd just met. Acquantices no touch.
“That was freaking awesome! You rock, you know that?”
"Yep," Jubilee said, pleased that at least he recognised that fact. She rebelted her trench since it was slipping open and pulled the lapels a bit closer together.
“What did you ask me? What do I do?” He shrugged. Training, working out, playing with other super kids, teasing Kitty, Danger Room escapades, saving the world. “Not much. I mean, I…stuff. I like…you know, we should do this again. We could make some money.”
"That is my plan, personally. I'm trying to get on here at the carnival," Jubilee confessed. Tilting her head back, she eyed the two posts where she'd had her highwire strung between before. "I should get back to doing my show."

This chick was guarded.
If she was physically surrounded by twenty foot tall and two feet thick brick walls laced with spirals of razor wire she wouldn’t be half as guarded as she was emotionally. Bobby felt his smile slip a little as he watched her blow him off…again. But he caught himself.
“Yeah…right,” he said following her gaze up to the wire. “Of course.”
Though it stung a little, Bobby Drake was hardly going to be crushed by something like this. His smile brightened again. “Well…it was nice to meet you,” he said with a hand outstretched. “And good luck on the whole carnival thing. If you ever want a cool partner…”
He doubted she would, so left it at that.
“Anyway…I’ll see you around.” He locked eyes with her one last time and then turned to leave. Halfway up the hill when he was out of earshot he turned around almost wistfully and looked at her. His voice was an inaudible whisper.
“See you around…Jubes.”

"Yeah, we'll see," Jubilee said, shaking his hand briefly. It wasn't like he was a bad guy, it was just she had more important things to do right here. Like perform. And get a job so she could get around and kill people for money. She didn't think someone as harmless looking as Bobby could really get that. Or approve it.
Geez, he was just like Wonderbread, really.
"See ya," she said, feeling sad and not really knowing why. She gazed after him for a bit, wondering. She hadn't meant to chase him off, exactly. Just that she had work she had to do. He could have stayed and watched...if he'd wanted. She stared after him as he walked away, before shaking her head briskly and taking off her coat.
Shinnying up the pole again, she was back onto the highwire, dancing and shooting fireworks from her fingertips while dressed in a showgirl-like costume. Putting on a show. Trying hard to be entertaining. And didn't think about Bobby at all. Or at least, not much.
