Given Name: Jonothon Evan Starsmore
Codename: Chamber
Age: 17
Detailed Description of Powers:
Chamber is a mutant who isnaturally composed of pure psionic energy. His physical body is just a shell for what he truly is. The initial emergence of his powers blew a hole in his chest and lower face, completely incinerating most of his internal organs. Because of this, Chamber no longer needs to eat, drink, or breathe. Oddly enough, Chamber's blood does continue to flow through his extremities, as if propelled by a churning engine of psionic flame itself. However, he is sustained solely by the psionic flame that rages within his body. If it were somehow snuffed out, he will most likely die. But so far his reaction to a disruption of his mutant abilities is still unclear. As his flames are actually psionic in nature, and don’t rely on some form of fuel to continue to burn, they don’t seem to be affected by conditions that would be adverse to actual flame (ie. lack of oxygen, water, etc.)
* Biokinetic Flame: Chamber constantly creates and unleashes psionic charges of energy that can strike with concussive force, act as generic flame, or cause inanimate objects to explode violently, by forcefully disrupting molecular bonds. Jon can’t actively affect molecules containing carbon in that same explosive manner, but those molecules aew still very vulnerable to a direct hit with his biokinetic flame. If Chamber realized his full potential he could in fact rebuild his broken body or use his blasts in a number of ways, such as flying. However, he lacks this degree of control and it is unlikely that he ever will attain it.
* Projection Telepathy: Basically, Jono is a radio that can send out signals, but not receive them. Chamber can't read minds, probe thoughts, or see things that lie outside his line of sight. He can, however, use his abilities to 'speak' inside the minds of those near him. He can also create psionic illusions. For the most part, these projections are unfocused, and only people within physical hearing (or viewing) range will be affected. Physical obstructions don't affect these projections as they would real sounds and images. For instance, a person on the opposite side of a soundproof wall would still be able to hear him, as long as they were close enough.
* Psionic Blasts: He can project psionic force bolts which had no physical effects but which can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness and possibly even kill an adversary.
Originally from: London, UK
Known Family: Robert Starsmore - Father
Evelyn Starsmore – Mother
Judith (Judy) Heap - Grandmother (deceased)
Physical Description:
Jono is decently tall, just under the six foot mark. Skinny and very lanky, he has not and will never grow into the promise of his frame and the build of his father. He has a large nose, straight and aquiline which is the predominant feature of his face. His eyes are large and dark, with long eyelashes that many a girl would kill someone for. His hair is long and a dark brown in colour, that he wears long and that usually looks matted and unkempt.
The front of Jonothon from navel to underneath his nose was destroyed in his manifestation, which is now a gaping hole in his body. The psionic flares seem to exist around a small core of bionuclear energy, which sends out ribbons of drifting energy that appear as 'flames' to the normal human eye. Post-manifestation, he wears black bandages wrapped around his face and torso to hide them from immediate notice. His wardrobe is predominantly black, usually jeans with a band tshirt and battered black Doc Martin boots with a thick belt. His nails are usually painted black, and seen in various stages of chipping.
Personality:
Bitter, cynical and depressed are the best words to describe Jonothon’s personality. He switches between fits of introversion and extroversion, but the introvert in him wins a lot more often now. He used to enjoy a good party and being out around people but he's wracked with guilt over the fact that he put his girlfriend in a wheelchair and could have killed her when his powers manifested. He believes he should be dead, and the fact that no one seems to be able to find out why he isn't only makes him think of himself as a monster, a walking corpse fuelled by hellfire that hasn't had the smarts to fall over into its grave yet. He's more then a little bit suicidal, and hates his mutation for taking that final choice to opt out from his life from him.
He's rebellious, distrustful of authority figures and of most people in general. Down to earth practical, more used to solving problems with fists and boots then thinking them through, Jonothon fights dirty and with every trick at his disposal. He's from the housing projects of London and proud of it, stubbornly maintaining his harsh accent even in his telepathic 'voice', along with an excessively colourful vocabulary. He has a code of honour which mainly consist of things like be true to your mates, watch your friend's back in a fight, it isn't dishonourable to kick some plonker in the balls if that's what's needed, never EVER hit a woman or someone who can't protect themselves but everyone else is fair game, don't welsh on a bet, tell the truth when it suits and don't get caught if you have to lie, rich people aren't people they're money machines, don't trust the coppers ever, and so on. He's still in love with Gayle, or he thinks he is, but it's so twisted up with guilt he can't think straight about her.
Other:
Skills: Can play guitar exceptionally well, fair on drums, used to be an excellent singer and is still figuring out how to do that telepathically, useless on keyboard. Writes his own music. Can hotwire a car or break into a flat easily. Enough mechanical skill to keep his battered motorcycle on the road or jimmy a fix for an amp, but not much more. Basic mechanical skills with most vehicles. Good street fighter/brawler. Has limited control over his flares, and therefore usually keeps them covered up.
Likes: Playing his guitar, listening to music, reading gothic horror novels, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Staind, Cake, Pink Floyd, Bare Naked Ladies, NoFX, pyschedilic British rock. Also enjoys British comedy and is a rabid Monty Python and Black Adder fan.
Dislikes: Stupid people, politicians, lawyers, journalists, doctors, teachers, career military men, the police, men who hit women and children, people who have an addiction and won't admit it, most Americans, fashion magazines and stereotypes.
Bio:
Jonothon Evan Starsmore was born in London to lower middleclass parents. School and life were relatively uneventful, but characterised by a growing bitterness and cynicism regarding the world and all the people in it. His father was a problem drinker and addicted gambler, and often abusive to his mother. Despite what he did to her, she refused to leave him. Divorce was just not something one did. Jonothon often stepped between his parents to take abuse meant for his mother, and was on a more or less first name basis with the night nurses at Emergency at the hospital nearest his home. He's had his arms broken numerous times, cheekbone broken a couple of times, ribs broken once and many concussions. When Jonothon was 12, he recieved an old guitar from his grandmother. He learnt to play, and found an escape from his dysfunctional home life. About a year and a half later, he came home from school one day to find his father had hocked the battered instrument. He has never forgiven the man for that.
As part of his teen rebellion after his father sold his first guitar, Jonothon went Goth and started a garage band called the Displaced...once he'd bought a new guitar. Jonothon is an exceptionally talented guitar player and songwriter and also a good singer. As the band became better and more well known, he became involved with Lady Gayle Edgerton, a socialite who was slumming it in the lower class areas of London. All these things added up to more tension with his family, eventually terminating in Jonothon storming out and vowing never to come back. Thankfully, the band was doing well enough that he could afford to even though it was a few months off his fifteenth birthday. The Displaced became more of a family to him then his family ever really had been, and after his grandmother died when he was fifteen, he cut off all links with his family and gained legal emancipation from his parents.
After being kicked out by his father not long after they began their relationship, Jonothon had moved into the small flat Gayle used in the city, paid for and maintained by her father. Her father was, of course, unaware that his little princess had invited a boy to come and live with her in her flat that he was providing while she went to school, having been unable to cope with living at the boarding school she attended. When his mutant ability manifested itself in a large blast of psionic energy, Jonothon blew a hole in his body that stretches from his mouth to his lower torso, and cost his then girlfriend, Lady Gayle Edgarton, the use of her legs. They had been arguing, and as they continued to fight, Jonothon felt hot and strange all over. He pushed her away after she slapped him in the face, and then his powers manifested, throwing her into the wall and him in the opposite direction over a couch. He woke up once before the police and ambulance arrived, tried to make his way over to her and saw all the blood all over her, but couldn't find anything wrong. The sickening realization that it was his blood and skin that was plastered all over her, and that he now had a hole in his chest that stretched from just under his nose to his stomach with weak blue flames flickering inside it, made him black out again. The paramedics decided that he was already dead when they arrived at the scene, and sent his unconscious body to the morgue, while Gayle went to the hospital.
Chamber has no need to eat, drink, breathe or sleep. It has been theorized that his body is merely an unliving shell to contain his psionic energy, since his body currently lacks major organs, such as heart and lungs. His telepathic speech is his only way of communication, since his initial blast destroyed his mouth, voice box, and lungs. He suffers from extreme guilt over what happened to Gayle, and has recurring nightmares about what happened when his powers manifested, as well as what happened afterwards. He was taken to the city morgue, as he was presumed dead and woke up on a steel plate in a bodybag. Thanks to his telepathy, once he had been removed from the morgue and put into the hospital proper, he was aware of the extreme horror and disgust he was viewed by the nurses and doctors, besides the one or two who wanted to study him like a lab animal. Already disposed towards a cynical, sullen nature before, this has been enhanced by what happened after his horrific manifestation.
He tried to contact Gayle, only to be told very politely to get lost by her father's lawyers. He tried to get his friends from the Displaced to contact him, and they wouldn't due to the growing unease about mutants. Ashamed, Jono left the hospital after he was discharged and lived on the streets after he found that his keys no longer worked in the door of the flat he had been sharing with Gale. A normal life was no longer possible for him, as he no longer could eat drink or breathe, kept alive by the furnace of psionic energy within him. He couldn’t even talk properly, lacking the lower half of his face, although he has learned to use his psionic powers to communicate telepathically. It is no surprise that Jono developed a rather bleak outlook on life.
While he refused Xavier’s offer to live at the school initially when he received it at the hospital, he accepted after finding out that he couldn’t find anywhere to live and that he would be condemned to a life on the streets due to his mutation. He has not been long at the school and is still finding his feet.

What did he need to get out for? He didn’t need to get out anywhere. The sun was not his friend, it never had been. He preferred night, the dim lights of nightclubs and pubs, the glare of illuminated stages at the very brightest. Daylight was far too bright. But Xavier said he would go, and so…he went. Here he was. It was hard to argue with someone you were dependant on – who you were getting charity off.
Christ, it burned in his throat. Or it would have, if he still had a throat.
So here he was. Out in the daylight, frowning at the people passing while they shopped. Spending time being normal, living their lives, doing their thing. Being people. He was aware he no longer had that privledge. It was gone with everything inside him, his jaw, the front of his body. After he exploded in that should-have-been-fatal burst of power, normal was no longer anything he would ever have again. He wasn’t even alive. He was a monster.
Lost in his dark thoughts, Jonothon looked out over the people passing and frowned. He wasn’t glaring at them, exactly, he was just not exactly happy with himself, his life or his present situation. Practicing keeping his shields up and intact, holding them against the press of minds around him and making sure that no one out there heard his thoughts.
That was the point of this exercise, according to Xavier.
