Let the punishment match the offense. - Marcus Tullius Cicero
Jacob Merando was afraid of the dark. It always brought with it the knowledge that he didn't belong. See, Jacob was just a human. A normal whose job it was to do whatever his masters told him to. But he kept having dreams that he was more. That he had powers. He kept having dreams that his real life was somewhere out there.... And then he would have another appointment with Ms. Frost and he would make it through another day.

Name: Jacob Allan Merando Age: 25 Height: 6' Weight: 190 lbs Eyes: Blue Hair: Dark, dark brown (black in winter) Physical Description: Jacob is fairly well-built for a human, standing taller than most with more muscle tone than most. He attributes this to the harsh lifestyle that he had to lead before reaching the place he was in now. His hair is long, and his eyes, while sometimes capable of a frightful sheen, are typically placid. He learned that he needed to quaff that rebelliousness early on. Sometimes, though, he still doesn't.
Personality: On his bad days, Jacob is far from what one would consider a good servant. He does what he's told, but he's stubborn, willful, showing a bit more hope and a bit less fear and respect of mutants than he should. Then there are his good days, those few days following one of his appointments with Ms. Frost. On those days, he is everything one could hope for in a servant: obedient, swift to answer, seeming to know his place. It's on those days that he wishes that he wasn't so mentally unstable, and he questions why Magneto ever decided to hire him in the first place. It's on the other days that he wishes he didn't have to go back to Ms. Frost, because despite the beatings he got on those days, despite the punishments he had to endure, he enjoyed being a rebel. He enjoyed the fight.
Opinions: Magneto: Fear. And respect. And honor-bound sense of duty. The man has a way of commanding it, of making you think that he should command it, and that notion, more than anything else, frightens Jacob into never even attempting anything against him. Ms. Frost: Something about the woman just rubs him the wrong way, but he deals with it. She is the only thing keeping him sane, and thus alive, at the moment, so he has to. He still hates the way she can see into his thoughts, though. Samuel Guthrie: There's a stick somewhere up that man's ass that Jacob wants to take out and beat him with, but he knows he can't. So instead, he spits in his drinks. Guido Carosella: Dude, he f***in' rocks! Creed: Scary man. Homo Superior: They are superior to him, and he accepts that. Sometimes. Homo Inferior: His own people. He wants to make their lives better, all over the world, but he knows that can never be. SHIELD: These guys are scary. They'd probably shoot him if their wine was too warm.
Powers: Underestimation. It is the only power that a human has in this world. Homo Superior are Superior, after all, so why should they fear Homo Inferior? The answer is because they don't fear them. It makes them weak, susceptible to surprise, lax. Sadly, Jacob is unaware of this perfectly mundane power that he has, but if he ever figured it out... Other Abilities: Jacob is fairly empathic without actually having the power, having learned to read body language at an early age. He is also a decent actor because of this knowledge, as he knows what body language to use to give off a certain emotion. Not that he would ever deceive his masters, of course. He also has pretty fast hands, allowing him to do a couple of sleight-of-hand tricks, but nothing too fancy. Lastly, he has an uncanny ability to not be noticed. It's a totally normal, mundane power, but one can be looking straight at him sometimes and not know he was there, almost as if he blends into shadows...he claims he doesn't do it on purpose. This is a lie. Limitations: Jacob's human nature makes him, well, squishy. His barely-kept mental stability doesn't help him, either, nor does his lack of what is considered "servant nature." But he tries. Originally From: He doesn't remember Known Family: Mother and Father (presumably, he had to come from somewhere, and presumably both dead) Hobbies and Pastimes: Jacob doesn't really have any pasttimes or hobbies, except for waxing philosophically when he's all alone. It wasn't like he could read.
Background: Jacob was born and raised in one of the harshest parts of the town he grew up in, a place he doesn't remember all too well. In fact, he doesn't remember a lot about his past. Ms. Frost explains that it was psychological repression of the traumas he experienced, and he could believe that. His human life had to have been pretty bad, so it was only natural for his brain to want to forget it as soon as his life became better.
That came in the form of Magneto hiring him on as a servant. It wasn't the best job in the world, but it was the best job in the world for a human to have. At least he was provided with food and living arrangements. He served Magneto loyally, because he was the man who had saved him from his life, and spared his life, but he didn't like serving others.
