The swift wind of compromise is a lot more devastating than the sudden jolt of misfortune. - Charles Swindoll Doctor Henry McCoy was the world's foremost geneticist and a formidable physician. He truly led a charmed life. Together with his beautiful and brilliant wife, Emma, they were responsible for much of what made mutant life as tranquil and idyllic as it was. Henry was credited with the discovery of cures for the world's greatest diseases - everything from the legacy virus to the common cold. Emma led the government's Relearning and Placement Project, making the transition for young mutants without mutant parents suitable for their places in society. And Henry was able to identify most latent mutants long before they could be polluted by the lower forms that gave birth to them. They were true idols not only for their picture-perfect marriage, their kindness and responsibility in the adoption of their orphan daughter, but for the ways their work touched the lives of nearly every person in their society. They were on the "A" list of invited celebrities, their luxurious life and home featured in magazines and on television. But the problems and the secrets that dwelled within their household threatened to tear more than their perfect marriage apart.
