There is a smile of love, And there is a smile of deceit, And there is a smile of smiles In which these two smiles meet. - William BlakeIf we knew each other's secrets, what comforts we should find. - John Churton Collins
Sins. Secrets. Remy Lebeau is a man in black who spends his days in shadow. He trades in sins...and secrets. Softly spoken, a welcoming smile. A broad shoulder, a compassionate ear. He offers kindness and indulgence. He offers sympathetic counsel and the simple word of God. Though most confession is taken anonymously in whispers and in darkness, Remy Lebeau sees much though he often says little. He hears so much more. What Remy Lebeau does say belies a wisdom beyond his humble appearances. His absolution and advice sought by courtiers and courtesans, soldiers and servants he has earned a post within the castle walls and the indulgence of an often anxious king. Indulgence, but not trust. Not yet. He awaits one secret in particular. A secret worth any price.
