Continued from the Blue Moon Motel
Samantha stood just among some trees and could see the campsite from her location. She was in utter shock capturing the vision of smoke trails swirling up into the sky. Her heart pounded as she quickly made her way through the last of the forestry and to the beginning of the land that Nick and her had given sanctuary to humans for the past few months. The foul stench of rotting flesh immediately wrinkled the feline’s nose. The nightmare she had before was nearly coming true. Her eyes darted around from body to body counting them in her head. Some of the flesh appeared almost eaten, while others had been poisoned by something or someone. A couple of their resistance lay dead amongst them as Sam walked through the stench covering her nose with a cupped hand. A moan caught the attention of the mutant as she ran towards it hoping to find a survivor. It was a small child appearing to be bulging from areas of her body like it was swollen or poisoned, She lie there probably now numb from pain. Sam’s heart bled at the site as she ran over skidding onto her knees bringing the child into her arms gently. She wasn’t going to make it and Sam just held her close trying to soothe her dying breaths. “It’ll be ok sweetheart” she said in between tears. “You’ll be ok, just go to sleep and when you awaken, you’ll be in paradise.” The words weren’t even finished before the limp body was placed back to its original site.
Arising now in anger, Sam screamed up to the goddess. “Why!” Turning, the mutant made her way into the house to see if the rest of her nightmare were to be true. Walking past the small room that resembled somewhat of a kitchen, she made her footsteps to his bedroom. She took in a deep breath and was relieved to smell any remnants of her father. She walked into the room and took a look around. It had been deserted and most of his things were gone. A good sign. But where did they go? Who took them?
Those were answers only she could find and this surely wasn’t the place to look for them. Without regards to anything else, the feline just ran out of the house and deep back into the forest. First thing she did was run and kept on running until she could really run no more. The place was her backyard and she knew it like the back of her hand. A small stream where she would come and play as a child became her little sanctuary, the place where she would collapse and regain her composure, the place where she wept for those lost.
