(Continued from Adoring Fan...) (This is a prequel to After(glow)math, though to get the effect we intended it's advisable to read that first) Deefer was surprising herself with how frustrated she felt. Normally, she didn't set much store by apologies - being an unapologetic person herself, she didn't really do regret, preferring to just fix any mistake she made (not that she very often made mistakes) - if it wasn't fixable, there was no point worrying about it. Still, she did know that sometimes situations were fixed with the proper apology, and that other people were more emotional than herself - people like Kenny. She could understand her feelings about it, of course, she knew her own mind - Kenny was an emotional person, the kind who fixed situations with apologies and forgiveness, and not giving that to her, even considering her own views, was...insulting. It was irritable, she was getting worked up and over-reacting, and it annoyed her. After changing, she headed straight to the gym area, she didn't trust herself to run a simulation - having enemies who fought back would probably be a bad idea when she was being irrational. Irrational. Her. Frowning irritably, she went straight for a punching bag and started beating the crap out of it. (Tag Commander Guthrie)

((After Kenny's television debut))
That insufferable idiot! That ignorant fool!
Guthrie hadn't even registered Deefer's entrance at first. He was too busy working out some of his own frustrations. That...boy had all but exposed some of SHIELD's most intimate secrets about one of the many threats to national security.
"Is. It. That. Difficult. To. Show. Restraint!" He grunted as his fists struck the bag, the thunderous booms echoing through the room as he pictured that silly, stupid face of Orion's on the bag.
And on television, no less! Of all the brain dead, irresponsible, foolish, stupid things a soldier could do.
It took all his will power to keep himself from dismembering Kenny piece by piece with his bare hands. It took all his own restraint to keep from
"How. Can. Anyone. Be. So. STUPID!"
SHAABOOM!
He scowled as his rage inadvertantly triggered his powers, causing his fist to rocket out the back end of the heavy bag.
"Dammit."

Deefer glanced briefly at the Commander as she set to work. Though she wasn't really paying attention to him, bent on working out her own frustrations, some of his words filtered into her consciousness and she raised an eyebrow, though not yet realising that the cause of his frustrations was the same as hers - Kenny just wasn't making any friends with his TV appearance.
She stopped, surprised, when the other punching bag flew across the room. "...sir?" she asked before she could stop herself, though she wasn't sure it was entirely a good idea calling attention to herself - in that kind of mood it wasn't certain who'd he'd take his frustrations out on.

There was no attempt to mask his anger with a sickly sweet smile, or to sugar coat his venom. Guthrie's rage and fury towards Mallone's mate transcended any sort of meditation that he could preform. There was only the dark, boiling blackness that bled from his innermost self.
What could he really say? That insignificant speck of a man had brought Ramsey into his business. Ramsey, the one man who could singlehandedly destroy everything that Guthrie had worked so hard to obtain. And it was ALL Orion's fault.
Then Ramsey had the audacity to suggest a pseudo-REWARD for his stupidity! And although Kennedy was going to be spoon fed nothing but pure, grade "A" BS, Samuel still felt that more drastic means needed to be taken in dealing with the leak. He had never been so furious.
He HATED Orion.
He HATED Ramsey.
He HATED EVERYONE.
Save for one. And she hated him.
And somehow, it was all Orion's fault. He knew it was.
"I have a grievance with your significant other." He said, his voice simply dripping with tense anger.

Deefer raised an eyebrow, she had been right in her initial assessment (when she saw the programme), the commander was not at all pleased with Kenny's...performance. And that was an understatement.
She allowed herself a grim smile, nodding tersely "You're not alone in that, sir." she told him, though she seemed much calmer than him, there was a certain amount of tension in her body language if you knew what to look for.
It really hadn't been a very good show for Kenny, if the two of them didn't work out their tensions he would not be having a very happy time.

He would have smiled if his mood wasn't so foul.
Her anger was trivial compared to his righteous fury. He wanted to do something biblical to Orion, something so gruesome and foul that it gave him a tingling sensation all over just to think about it.
But he couldn't. All because of Ramsey and his "plan of attack".
He visibly shook with anger.
"Unfortunately, I cannot effectively punish him for his... loose lips... due to my command being overridden by Director Ramsey's... infinite wisdom.." Guthrie sneered, "And his strategy for dealing with this new development..."
He thought about making it known, so as to really pull one over on Ramsey, but he thought better.
"So here I am. Working out my aggression on this useless equipment." He snapped, "Instead of escorting your sweetheart down to my Interrogation Chamber..."
Oh the fun they'd have. Samuel and his father's tool satchel.
"I assume his comment about your relationship is your reason for agreeing with me..."

"Your assumption is correct, sir." she said, icily calm, the tension in her small frame only growing as her anger did.
"Forgive my insubordination, sir, but what is Director Ramsey thinking?" she asked irritably "If I may say so, Kenny should be punished, he showed a complete disregard of anything resembling tact or even intelligence." she said fiercely. She was very, very annoyed at Kenny.

Samuel did want to punish him. He wanted to hurt him in a way that was going to stick for a long time. He wanted to taste the salt of his tears of anguish. He wanted him to beg for death.
Was he angry enough with Ramsey to tell Mallone? Was he angry enough to jeopardize his own status?
Not quite. But just enough.
"Director Ramsey has decided to allow Orion the chance to remain in the spotlight. But I am to limit his clearance..." Samuel said, half telling the truth. If by limit his clearance, you meant "Feed him lies," Samuel was telling the truth.
"Therefore, he cannot leak anything that could damage our reputation and cause distress to the general public" He sneered, "Not at all sufficient. If it were up to me, I give him the same treatment I share for other traitors and conspirators..."
There wasn't usually much left of them after Samuel was through with them.
He could still punish him. There had to be a way...

She was barely aware she'd moved, but when Guthrie explained the Director's plans for Kenny, her hand lashed out, her fist hitting the punching bag with her full force behind it, her punch was off-centre, making the bag spin wildly.
"He's hardly setting a good example of what it means to be a soldier." she snapped, losing her cool. Taking a deep breath, she tried to relax, it didn't really work but she managed to force out an apology "Forgive me, sir, that wasn't my place to say." It was insubordination. Even if it was true.

Guthrie let half a smile surface. Mallone could always be counted on to make rational, level headed choices, and her analysis of Ramsey's idea had simply reinforced his own view of the situation.
"I'll make a rare exception, considering my own feelings towards the situation, just be mindful of saying such things around Ramsey...or thinking too much of it with those brain jockey hounds of his.."
He suddenly took a very hard look at Mallone. She was so furious, so angry...it contorted her features and twisted her calm aura into something....
Attractive. Very Attractive.
Suddenly he knew just how he'd punish Orion. Besides, it had been far too long (for his liking at least) since he'd had that sort of companionship, and as much as it pained him to say it, Anna was being far from receptive.
Now, all he had to do was execute his plan.
"Did I hear him correctly? Did he deny your relationship?" Guthrie scoffed as he grabbed a hold on her punching bag and held it steady, indicating an offer to hold it as she worked out her frustrations.

She nodded stiffly. Oh, of course, she'd keep her cool around the Director - once she'd calmed down and got rid of her annoyances over the situation, it was just a good job that the Director wasn't here now.
She nodded slightly again in thanks and aimed a few irritated punches at the bag, falling into a steady rhythm of fierce hits after a few moments. "You heard correctly." she confirmed in a low voice "Of course he didn't mean it, and he's ever so sorry." her words were harsh, punctuated by her blows, which only got harder as she started thinking about it.

Samuel laughed sharply as her blows struck the bag with more and more force.
"Why though?" He asked, grunting slightly as he shifted his position, "For what purpose?"
He peered around at Deefer, and raised his eyebrows quizzically, "Why did he feel the need to hide your relationship?"
Keep her mind on it. Keep her calm locked away by her passions and anger.

Her rationality was compromised, she had no idea what he was trying to do (not that she would have ever suspected it of him anyway), she wasn't even thinking about why he was saying those things, she was just reacting to them.
"He says he didn't want anyone else to find out and ruin it. Never mind the fact that everybody already knows." she punched the bag particularly hard and paused for a minute, panting for breath "Such stupid reasoning."

"His reasoning is affected by his actual intellect, I assure you that in his mind, he was being totally logical..." Guthrie hissed, "My apologies, I tend not to suffer fools..."
Hit it home.
"I could understand it if he was with any other woman, but Mallone..." He said, calmly, "Deefer, you are an exceptional woman...and why he had any desire to distance himself from you boggles my mind..."
He was close. So close.

"No apology necessary." she scowled, aiming a few more punches. He didn't need to apologise because, right then, in her anger, she agreed with him - Kenny's reasoning probably did make perfect sense to him, and she was annoyed by that. He'd been so earnest and upset as he gave her that crap about not wanting to ruin it. Why had she got involved with someone so emotional? Granted, right now, she was feeling quite emotional herself, moreso than usual anyway, even if that emotion was anger.
Her punching halted at his next words and she looked up at him, surprised "Sir...?"
