"Just an astute observation from a big fan of yours." Guthrie replied, "You're certainly a very attractive woman, and exhibit several very admirable qualities that, I at least, wish I could see more of in the women I meet."
He was a big fan of Mallone, that wasn't a lie. In fact, he surprised himself with how honest he was being. The only thing dishonest about his exchange was his face, full of what appeared to be lonesome anguish.
"That's all." He said, pushing his hair back over his ears, "Just a handful of thoughts on the matter.."
Excellent. Well done.

((I am so fail it's not even funny. Sorry sorry sorry))
"Oh, I see..." Deefer said slowly. Though she wasn't exactly a woman of many words, she was rarely, if ever, lost for them. Now seemed to be an exception. The next punch she aimed at the bag was half-hearted and a little sloppy, she was clearly being affected by his words.
She paused, taking a deep breath. "Thank you, sir." she said quickly, straightening up and aiming another, more precise punch. "If you don't mind me saying, sir," she began, without quite looking at him "I could express similar observations about yourself."
Well, she could, she respected Guthrie, looked up to him as a soldier, and if she stepped back from duty (not that she really ever did), she would have to admit that he was quite an attractive man.

Now he had her exactly where he wanted her. All it would take was a little prodding, a suggestion or two and...
Well...you get the idea.
"Glad to see that someone thinks so." The Commander replied, "Frankly, I feel as though most women would find a man like me.... repulsive..."
An outstretched finger ran slowly across the scar that marred his face. Now he loved having the scar, it was a badge of courage that he proudly wore, but if he was to do what he intended, he'd need the extra help.
"Physical defects aside.." He sighed, "I fear that my personality is far too...."
Wonderful? Marvelous? Beautiful?
"Intense, for most people..." He continued, "I've found that most women think I'm some sort of... rabid watchdog..."
"I don't think there's anything wrong with dedication to what one truly wants out of life..." He said, a seductive smile crossing his lips, "If the object of our desire, be it advancement at your career or otherwise, is in front of you...it's only natural that you should act.."
"Don't you think so?" Samuel asked

She looked at him as he spoke, surprised by his words. He'd always seemed so confident about himself... she hoped he wasn't about to confess some sort of deep-seated neurosis, she'd had quite enough of that thank you very much. But a little insecurity, well it made him a little more approachable... she frowned slightly, physical defects? But his scar was part of what made him attractive... well, to a girl like her, who was impressed by evidence of battle (Not that she'd admit anything of the sort, her respect and attraction were noted clinically, at the back of her mind somewhere. Most of the time). She found herself stepping closer, one hand rested on the punching bag between them.
"Anybody who would find you too intense is clearly not the sort of woman who would be well suited to you." a man like the commander needed a woman who could cope with his job. "I agree with you, you're the sort of man who knows what he wants and takes it, it's an admirable trait in this line of work." she continued in a low voice, "And, if you don't mind me saying, sir, I think you should continue to do so..."

Samuel knew exactly what he wanted, he could visualize it all too clearly in his mind.
"Alas, if I could..." He said, his hand resting just above hers on the bag, "I desire something very much...and it's just out of my reach..."
He sighed heavily and let his hand slip down the bag, his fingertips lightly grazing hers as they fell. He was so close now, and soon... soon he'd have her. That fool Orion was going to be punished, one way or another...
And it was going to happen tonight.
She did say that she admired him for his decisiveness. She did say that he should continue to go after what he wanted...
He stepped closer, they were within only mere inches of each other now.
"I suppose I could...just take it..." He said, his voice a hushed, slow whisper, "All I'd need to do is reach..."
He reached out with his hand and lightly caressed Deefer's face, letting it fall slowly to his side.
Now to see how she reacts...

Deefer continued to regard him steadily as he spoke, though there was a hint of confusion in her gaze, she had her suspicions what he was getting at, but he couldn't really mean... It was a long time since anybody had paid this sort of attention to her, and Kenny's attempts certainly weren't this...smooth... Combined with her anger at the other soldier, and her respect for her commanding officer, well it made for decisions she probably shouldn't be making...
"Sir..." she said slowly, softly, as his fingers stroked across her cheek "You...you should make no exceptions in that practice." she offered, a little hesitant at first, but bolder as she continued. "It's what got you to your position as commander, I see no reason it should fail you now..." She held her steady gaze; questioning, slightly encouraging, waiting for him to make the move she was sure he would.

“Then perhaps I shall…”
Guthrie smiled and with a gentle tilt of his head, closed the gap between them and brought his lips to hers. Guthrie was not the most gentle of men in any sense of the word, his tactics were brutal and swift, his relationships were more often than not based on what the other person could offer him.
But he was surprisingly tender here.
Maybe it was because he actually respected Mallone. He respected her skills as a soldier, he respected her own no-nonsense attitude, he respected that she was everything that most of the soldiers in his command weren’t.
His hands had found their way to her waist, letting them lay alongside the natural curve of her body.
He withdrew slowly, remaining close enough to her to kiss again should he (or she for that matter) felt inclined to.
“I’ve…wanted to do that for some time now…”

Though Deefer was expecting the move, it still took her a little by surprise - until the Commander actually did something decisive, she'd been having a hard time believing he was getting what she thought he was. The kiss surprised her as well, how gentle it was, but it was...nice. She briefly thought about Kenny as her eyes slid closed, his kisses were gentle too, but inexperienced, nothing like this. She lay a hand on his chest as he began to pull away, her eyes opening slowly, she regarded him seriously, but her expression was soft. "You have?" she asked quietly, disbelievingly. Clinically, her mind noted that fact with curiosity, along with myriad other details that her soldier's mind had decided to take note of. The feel of his uniform under her hand, of his hands at her waist, of the whispers of breath she could feel across her lips from how close they were.

"Why wouldn't I?" Guthrie said softly, "How couldn't I?"
In the back of his mind Guthrie was already thinking about the chain of events, of how this one little thing would quite simply destroy the young man who had embarassed him so. Orion would never undermine his command again.
Not that he thought for an instant that Kenny would put two and two together and sort out that he had seduced Deefer to punish him. Really, he respected Deefer's own opinion so much that she probably could have convinced him to be merciful with Orion if the situation arose.
But now... well now that he had done this, the emotional ties to Orion were thin. Thin enough to bend. Thin enough to break.
How fitting that a man nicknamed "Cannonball" would do the breaking. The humor of the whole thing made him want to laugh.
And once they were broken, he could do what he pleased with the boy. Sure Ramsey had forbade him to hurt the young man, but Orion was a soldier, and a soldier's life was filled with peril. Mortal Peril.
But until that time, this would certainly help.
"Such a waste to see you with him. Such a waste of potential...a woman such as you with a fool like that...'
He moved in again, stopping just short of contact.
"Unless...you think I've been too forward..."

Deefer Mallone was not the sort of woman who would leave a job unfinished, she very firmly believed that you must only start something if you meant to continue it. Besides, with her anger at Kenny still fresh in her mind, and his compliments - so rare, the idea of compliments from him had so much weight behind them even in this context - it all came together to leave the woman absolutely sure exactly how to continue.
In response to his question, her lips quirked up into a slightly seductive smirk, and this time she took the initiative, answering him by closing the distance between them and bringing their lips together once more.

Samuel briefly returned her smile before he was once again, lip locked with her.
Of all the women he had kissed, Samuel had to admit that Deefer's was probably one of the best he'd ever had.
There was a certain sweetness to it, a taste that seemed to drive the bitterness from him. Oh what was the word for it? Ah yes, that sweet taste of revenge.
Of course, in order for him to truly feel that the injustice that Orion had caused him was settled, he'd have to move things a step farther.
So he returned her kisses with a passionate vigor, raising the intensity as they progressed.
