Okay, this is my first time teaching so be nice. Just to make sure everyone's on the same page, the dreaded first person post with semi-colons as the action idicator is a big no-no. The rule states: "Please try to be as descriptive as possible with your posts. Include your character's thoughts, actions, feelings, surroundings... etc, as well as their dialogue, when possible. If ya give other people more to work with, they will give you the same in return."
Most people have trouble coming up with ways to respond to the first person semi colon-ed posts so please don't use them.
What I mean by that is:
What we prefer is:
See the difference?

Lemme see if I got this right.
Instead of doin' sumthin' like this here....
it's better if we go with sumthin' like...
Yer right, doll. That is better. Lots more descriptive.
Good job.
When's recess? I don't feel tardy.

Don't forget Creed, sometime's a picture is worth a thousand words. For instance, I imagine this might be the teacher's response.

I think it's safe to say that this might be the last lesson I teach. I'm very uncomfortable with Creed's out and out flirting or whatever the hell he calls it in this thread.

Well, I'm gonna toss my two cents in here. Just a little grammar pet peeve I have: THEN and THAN There is a difference, and they are two of the most commonly misused words anywhere. Then- indicates time. Example: Logan kicked the snot out of Creed, and then went to the bar. Than- indicates differences. Example: Scott Summers is more handsome than Alex Summers. There. That's my two cents.

Here is another posting tip. When not posting on the fly, when you sit down and really think out a post, feel free to write it up in Word first. Newer versions will point out your spelling and grammar mistakes, and you can correct it easily before posting. Just cut and paste onto the X-Board. Word isn’t perfect, but it sure helps me out.

Another tip: leave room between your punctuation marks and your words. Otherwise it looks all mished. And it bugs me. Also, using punctuation in the first place is a big plus...makes your posts look better. Makes them easier to read, and stops me from going after you with chopsticks.

Alright i understand and i would also like to give another tip, when it comes to posting don't use the capital letters in every word you type with the exceptions of typing the first word in your paragraph

Yes, but there are exceptions. Like "I". As a word, it should always be capitalized, as well as proper names and places.

Alright i understand and i would also like to give another tip, when it comes to posting don't use the capital letters in every word you type with the exceptions of typing the first word in your paragraph I might also suggest puncuation: "All right, I understand. I would also like to give another tip: When it comes to posting, don't use capital letters in every word you type. The exception being, capitalize the first word in your paragraph." Jamie brings up a good point. Word can be a lifesaver in cases like this, and can make things a lot easier for everybody.

Wouldn't it be the first word in every sentence?

Sorry, I meant to say the first letter of the first word of a sentence, and thanks for pointing that out about proper names, places, and the letter "I"

Most importantly, please READ the thread you are in. When you are posting you are NOT just doing something that boosts your numbers up and makes it look really impressive that you have posted many a time.
What you ARE doing is creating a story collectively with everyone else.
For that reason I suggest something along these lines for people with little experience in this matter: Read through everyone else's posts in the scene carefully. Look at what their character is saying, watch for body language clues, or tones of voice...even look at the THOUGHTS (usually in itallics) for clues on what you can respond to.
THEN form your reply.
Two things to keep in mind when posting are that you want to develop and reveal your character, AND whenever possible you want to move the scene along.
So that means not only do you reply to what someone else is saying doing or thinking, but you give them something to reply to as well.
Lengthy posts are not necessarily the only way to do that. It is possible to have a very impacting and short post. But generally speaking, if all of your posts are one liners...you aren't living up to your full potential, and you are not contributing to the story.
