Given Name: Raithen Elizabeth Cain
Codename: None
Age: 35
Detailed Description of Powers: Simply put, Raithen Cain's powers are a very advanced form of contact empathy. By touching another person, she can generally get a feel of their surface thoughts, or, in more extreme cases, she sees an event that weighs on that person psychically. By touching an object, something similar occurs, though usually she sees or feels things in relation to those that have touched the object. The older it is, the stronger the image; however, she doesn't get full-on visions unless the object is at least as old as she is.
-Power Manifestation: This occurrence is generally only noticeable to Raithen, herself. However, a mutant with psionic powers, or any ability that would give them a better way of reading the electromagnetic aura, would see a fluctuation in hers.
-Power Weaknesses: An unfortunate drawback to Raithen's power is that, for one, the most she'll often get from a person is just a general "idea" of what is rooted within them, and it is difficult, sometimes, for Raithen to tell if this is because her powers have determined it, or if it is regular human intuition that tells her. However, in the case of deeply seeded moments of stress, happiness, pain, or sorrow, in the span of an instant, Raithen 'lives' the event in her mind from the person's point of view. If the event resulted in injury, she will show symptoms of that injury for up to sixty times as long as she was in contact with the person. In the case of an object -- if it is old enough to produce a complete vision, and the last person to hold the object died, Raithen will lose consciousness, and once or twice has awakened with no memory of what she saw -- only to have it return in the form of nightmares later. Her abilities are impossible to control, and while it is possible for her to touch a person or object a second time to grasp at the vision that she's seen before, she has to exert some of her own energies to do that, and she cannot merely "step out" of the vision before it is completed because it all occurs in an instant and she loses all sense of self for that time.
-Power Strengths: An upshot to this ability is that it makes Raithen an often compassionate person, in spite of the fact that she thinks she's always right; she appears to be a person who has a very good idea of how other people think and feel. On another, more advanced level, when Raithen experiences a "vision", her mind is placed in alignment with the individual she is either touching or the individual that touched an object last. Whatever they are doing at the time, provided it is a physical or mental activity and not one that involves superhuman powers, she automatically learns, because the synapses in her brain realign to a sense of familiarity for it. Mental activity, such as the learning of a language, is more complex than physical, however, so she must revisit a vision several times before she can fully and permanently take it in. If she goes several weeks without practicing something new she has learned, however, she has been known to forget it altogether. A full range of her abilities, both as a result of her power and her normal endeavors, will be listed in another field.

Known Family: Father - Nigel Algernon Cain -- Scottish, Professor of History, Aged 64 (deceased); Mother - Elizabeth Marie Cain -- English, Homemaker, Aged 60 (deceased)
Physical Description: Raithen Cain is a well built individual, and where musculature does not harden her features, a generous curve will soften them. She is moderately big boned, but not fat, as she is very active. Her complextion is rather pale, which is how she prefers it; however, time spent out of doors in the warm seasons usually hides that lightened pallor under a layer of freckles that tend to leave her face looking "perpetually dirty", as she likes to call it. Her red hair is thick and difficult to tame, falling in a rather disorganized pile of waves and semi-curls. In her younger days, she generally hated it, and kept it tied back out of her face at most times, not wanting, for one, to appear too feminine. Out of habit, she'd been known to pull her hair down mainly in moments of stress -- and she was been jokingly told that she's done it during arguments, and that it has the effect a frilled lizard has -- it made her look larger and more intimidating when she's angry. In present days, she will wear her hair down more often than not, only tying it back so it is not in her way when she is working. Raithen's face is roundish, though more heart-shaped than anything, and she is not one to smile often without good reason.
Traditionally, Raithen prefers not to wear dresses or skirts of any kind. She is one to dress in a more masculine fashion, or to restrict herself, at least, to trousers and a good dress shirt; however, she is fashionably conscious enough to choose things that will moderately compliment her. She is very active, and because of this she prefers clothing that is easy for her to move about in. Even though she is not quite as self conscious as she was known to be in her younger years, she is still not terribly fond of showing too much skin. Whether she's working or relaxing, she makes a point to wear gloves, to avoid any unwanted "transmissions" of her powers.
Other: (Feel free to include any extra information here, such as attitude, temperament, likes, dislikes... etc.) All right, then:
Personality: Raithen loves to debate. That fairly has to be said of her first. She is very opinionated and not one to shut up when she thinks she is right. However, oftentimes she'll jump into a discussion just because she thinks it's fun. Even if she does not emulate the side she is presenting, she is often the one to be the Devil's Advocate when she has no present stance on the subject; this is because she likes to make people think. On top of being a debate-monger, she's competitive in other arenas as well, and she likes to win. This makes her very proud, and is known to retreat to favor her wounds for a great deal of time when the victory is not hers. She is also often brutally honest, and because of the home she was raised in, where this was common, she thinks that telling someone like it is happens to be the best way to show them that you like them. Raithen's powers developed with her general inquisitiveness about the workings of the people around her, and since she came from a household that kept its secrets well guarded, she may be one to often assume that what a person shows her at face value is not what they truly have the potential for. On a more passive side, Raithen is one who appreciates help given, though she is never one to ask for it, and despite a need to be very self-sufficient and masculine, she is often most gratified when she is treated like a lady -- something she would not admit to anyone.
Other Abilities: Raithen speaks English, German, and Romanian, all fluently, though she can only attest to English as a language she learned by her own merits. She is also adept at the use of projectile weapons such as guns or crossbows, and as an avid athlete is a proficient hand to hand combatant as well. She is a decent public speaker and finds herself naturally comfortable in an environment where she can openly lecture. Raithen knows how to drive, though she's had to grow accustomed to American cars and roads, and she also knows how to sail. She's proficient at the use of a computer, though really only in the 'turning on and working with what's there' stage. Her favored subjects for personal pleasure are history, psychology, and quantum physics.
Bio: Raithen's family is well-to-do, having lived in the same home for nearly five generations, until Raithen left it six and a half years ago to further her studies in America. She was raised in her home in the Cotswolds, greatly emulating her father, the History Professor, though her mother very much wanted her to grow up sweet and charming -- a lady. She spent much of her time in her early years either outdoors or in the lap of her father begging him to read to her. Everyone in Raithen's home seemed to have an opinion, and none were particularly shy about voicing it. Because of this, Raithen was a very blunt child and even worse as she got into her teenaged years. Brutal honesty, though hurtful to people outside of their home, was a common thing in the Cain household, and as a result, Raithen believed that the best way to show affection to anyone was to tell them what you truely thought of them -- whether it was a straight out criticism or not. However, in contrast, while it was fine to observe and speak of what you saw, Raithen was also cautioned to guard her feelings and ideas, especially those that she did not want to have spoken of, something her parents considered to be a specialty in their family.
Raithen considered this way of manner a game as she grew up. Insults were not something to frown upon; often, they were jokes, though they were kept within a tightly knitted group. If someone managed to find a shortcoming to pick at, then you'd let your guard down. When she began to attend school, it lost her a lot of friends, and she was considered a very mean person because of it. It honestly shocked her, that people reacted so badly. After all, this was how she had been taught to behave all her life; in the early years, it was difficult to imagine that the world worked any differently. Following a few years of being shunned, Raithen eventually learned that it was best just not to try to talk to anyone else and to keep herself more guarded. Not talking was more of an effort, for her, since she still had the habit of piping into conversations even if she had no idea who the people speaking were. Eventually, she was regarded less as a mean little girl and more as strange. Her thirst for knowledge made her a very inquisitive person, and she liked to know why people thought the way they did, if they were so different from her. This reflected even at home, where her parents were likewise secretive when it came to things they felt might make them vulnerable, though they did do their very best to answer Raithen's questions when she asked them.
In her later years, Raithen decided that it was this desire to know what people were feeling, and why, that triggered her powers. In her ninth year at school, the first signs of her powers began to show. Raithen would brush past people at school, and even if she'd never met the person before, she would have some idea of what they were about -- at least on that particular day. It was not until she started encountering people who pushed violently realistic images into her mind that she realized that she was doing something unusual. The first time this occurred was when she was about thirteen, and she accidentally touched the hand of a woman she passed while shopping with her mother. She was thrown by a sudden instantaneous shock, as though someone had stricken her in the face. Her mother was alarmed to see the spreading welt on her cheek and rushed her home immediately, pressing her daughter to tell her where it had come from. Unable to explain, she lied and said she bumped into something when she wasn't watching where she was going. After a few other such instances, Raithen knew that she was, indeed, an unusual person. However, being unusual was something that could be used against her, and like always, it was something that Raithen kept a guarded secret for most of her life.
Her powers served her well over the years, and upon entering University for the first time, Raithen dove into her studies happily. She maintained high grades and often sacrificed time with other people so she could spend more with her books. Her strongest pursuits were rooted in History, but she began to develop a specific interest in human thought that took her into a double major in Psychology. After graduating, she began her graduate studies while interning abroad with a team of archaeologists, then later moved to America to work and study. She has since gained a Master's Degree and a Doctorate and, being ever the scholar, is working on a second Master's Degree. Since mutants have become more public in the world for what they are, her studies have turned toward them almost exclusively. For three of the six years she has been a resident of America, she has also been abroad, accompanying teams of archaeologists on a variance of expeditions to supplement her work, and she is forming a thesis suggesting that the earliest signs of the X-gene in human beings might have had them mistaken for gods among primitive people. She is still in the process of arranging expeditions to places that will further supplement her work. She has hopes to develop her findings by sharing them with other authorities on the subject of mutants and their influence on history.
And in the Interview:
Who do you want to play?: My OC, if that's all right
Why?: I'm comfortable with her, and I like the plot I've gotten with her on other marvel boards, and I'd like a new environment to try new things in.
Have you ever RP before? Where?: (If you wish, you can include a link to other RPGs here) I'm one of the admins of the UX RPG, and I also frequent X-universe and a number of RPs not affiliated with Marvel.
How many times would you say you should post a day?: Depends upon how active the thread I'm in is. Usually once a day.
Do you mean to stick with this site (in other words, will you NOT quit after a month or two?): I don't ever join a site without meaning to stick to it. It all depends upon the gameplay.
Please write a sample post for the character you want below: (*Ideas: Do something with someone (but don't control their character). Make it more than a one liner. Just post like you would in any other place.)
(I'm making use of an NPC here; I hope that's all right)
Raithen was tired. It was miserably hot, even at night, and her breath felt sticky in her mouth as it passed her lips. In any other situation, she might have given in to her discomfort and retreated to the comfort of the indoors, but this was about work, and if she was nothing else, she was dedicated to finishing this task while she still felt the motivation for it.
She nodded to the man behind her. "Shine your flashlight over here." He turned, bringing illumination with him, and the wall behind her lit up with color, contour and shape. Her eyes glittered with interest as she reached up to run her fingers almost affectionately over the aged stone. She was sure that many men had studied the etchings of an ancient civilization, reached out and touched a piece, wondering nostalgically if any man in ancient times had done exactly what they were doing then. Raithen Cain did not wonder if, however. She knew for a fact that someone had stood here, in this very spot, touching the same part of the wall that she was. He had been taller than her; his father had carved this section, himself. Her fingers trailed up to the male face inscribed there, tracing the blue markings following his jaw and the arc of his skull. Unmistakeable; though they varied in pattern, she'd seen similar work before, in a tomb thousands of miles away and a good thousand years older.
"What is it?" the man with the flashlight asked.
Raithen knelt to pick up her camera and took a quick shot of it. The burst of the flashbulb illuminated the entire chamber, for an instant chasing away the chlostrophobic cling of the darkness. It made the man jump. "It's a murel," she returned, seemingly unbothered.
"Well, obviously. But who is that supposed to be?"
"The markings say it is Kali, who ruled over death."
"That can't be right." The man took a step closer to her, maintaining the light on the wall. "Kali was --"
"A woman, I know. This figure is obviously male, but that's what is indicated." She hook her head and retreated, kneeling to grope for her bag, or where she remembered placing it, anyhow. There was no point in remaining much longer; she'd found what she was looking for, after all. The rest would be easy, considering the wall could not just get up and walk away. "We're not going to get any decent work done here without any light. Let's go back." She could get better shots of it in the morning. All she'd really needed to do to earn a good night's sleep was confirm her suspicions.
