Fire's always pretty. And I've been told I just read people's minds.
Jonothon gave her a careful, considering stare. Wondering if he should take a look inside her head.

"Fire, strobes, it's all good." Ali grinned, oblivious his own hinting. As she took in the last few words, she looked up at him with a wicked smile.
"That'd be one hell of a trick. But okay then," she dared, calling his bluff, as if it were just a brag. "Let's see if they're right. Tell me what I'm thinking."
Time for the test. Her mind was on him, the music. If he got it right, he even got a prize.
I bet I could even get him on stage for a song if he was up to it. What better way to get a musician in touch with others than to demonstrate?

I try not to read people's minds on first meeting them. It's rude, and people have dirty, dirty minds.
Jonothon gave her a mock serious look, before scribbling out another note.

"Could provide for much entertainment, should the morals ever slip." Ali replied to his look as if she thought the possibility to be quite amusing. It was clear she wasn't taking it seriously, until he slid her the next note.
Word for word...
The color drained from her face as she read it, expression completely dumbfounded. 'How' was a word that came to mind, among others.
"Wow... Good trick..." She said slowly, before raising her gaze from the paper to him. She watched him silently for a moment, not sure what to say. She had one thought that came to front.
"Well?" She prompted. "What do you say?"

"Why not?"
Jonothon thankfully flexed his hand, speaking directly into her mind for the first time.
"Trick it ain't, God's way of screwing wit' me it is."

Hearing his voice for the first time, Ali couldn't helo but find it strange. It almost sent a shiver down her spine. The way it worked out for him, however, given this speech over another... It was cool.
"I'll talk to the guys, see what's said. Owner likes me."
At the comment, Ali nodded appreciatively.
"I can imagine." she replied. "He's just a barrel of laughs that way."

"Coupla religious types at the school. I try not to express my own views on the nature of God too loudly around them. They're nice; just a little naif."
Jonothon put the pen and paper away thankfully.
"Yer have no bleedin' idea 'ow frustrating it is to *know* yer can talk, but havter go through the pen and paper, or hand waving cos most people fear telepaths above all other mutants. Not like I can help h'it."

"Some people take offense too easily, but what can you do?" Ali replied with a shrug. Watching the pen and notepad disappear, she nodded as he went on.
"On the bright side, you've probably become the expert on speedwriting," she tried to joke. "Unless you're sneaky about it, I don't see what's so bad. People are just paranoid of the worst."

"Bloody hell, why would I really want ter take a walk through anyone's mind? There's so many things I'd rather not know about people," JOnothon said, with a disgusted roll of his eyes.
"Americans are paranoid, full stop, luv."

"I suppose it could turn out in a bad case of TMI," Ali shrugged. It was human nature to wonder about the unknown, commonly what was going through the minds of others. She wondered if it was worth it.
Cracking a grin at his comment, she gave him a mock serious look.
"In most cases, true. But you can't say we're the only ones," she remarked. "It's a global epidemic."

"Yeah, true. Especially about mutants."
Jonothon tilted his head to one side slightly, watching her.
"Mostly we're just people. Course, most people are idiots. No escaping that..."

"That stuff just gets sickening." Ali replied. It was uncalled for, and often got out of hand at the drop of a hat. She looked over to Jono with a serious expression for a moment before the rest of his words entered her mind. She smiled, finding it funny.
"If we're mostly just people, then you just called us idiots."

"Nuh uh, pet. We're the top end of th' whole thing. The very rare intelligent ones who don't fit the generalisation."
Jonothon paused, backtracked in his head to the beginning of the his speech and shook his head slightly.
"Jubes ain't even *here* and I'm still talking like the little mallrat."

"A fact I celebrate daily."
Ali looked over at him with a grin to see Jono shaking his head. When he explained the movement, she laughed.
"Friend wear off on ya that much?"

"Too many years with Yanks, the slang's starting to rub off," Jonothon chuckled.
"Jubilee...is a very dominating personality. To put it mildly."
