OOC: During First Strike Christine knocked on Professor Munroe's door, hoping they could talk. She really hadn't had a chance to talk to her foster mother - really talk - since this whole mess started. "Mom? You in there?"

Ororo sat in her window, staring out at the star filled sky, her thoughts miles away. Hearing a knock on her door, she tore her gaze away from the sky.
“Come in,” she called, not wanting to leave her seat to greet her guest properly. When the Blackbird returned, she didn’t want to miss it.

Christine walked in quietly. "Hey," she said. She walked over and sat down next to her, resting her head on Ororo's knees, much like she did when she was younger. "You okay, Mom?"

Smiling as Christine settled in the seat with her, Ororo turned her eyes back to the night sky.
She will find out eventually, so it might as well be from me.
“No, I am not,” she sighed, running a hand absentmindedly through the girls hair. “I am not sure if you have heard, but Logan and a few others have taken it upon themselves to make the first strike against the Sentinals.”
Christine gave a squeak of shock. "Is he out of his mind? How can he just take off and fight those things? They're too strong. We got our butts handed to us on a silver platter when we fought them when we rescued the professor."

Taking a deep breath, Ororo closed her blue eyes for a moment, before looking at Christine.
“I do not know, child. Logan was never one to listen to reason, when there is an alternative action to take. He believes he and the others can do severe damage, and in the process, make our odds better. I feel this notion is misguided.”
This is my fault…

Christine frowned a moment, looking irritated. She looked up at Ororo, her own blue eyes looking tired and far older.
"I can't believe he foolishly risked his life like.. wait... what others?"

“Logan recruited Guido, Pyro and Gambit to accompany him on this mission,” Storm replied, feeling her anger return. “The last two I am not surprised, but I expected more from Guido.”
Looking at Christine’s expression, Ororo instantly regretted telling her any of this.

"If Logan wasn't Dad, I'd go Phoenix and kick his arse," she muttered. She lowered her eyes and sighed. "Mom... doesn't he know that they could never come back from this mission and the family will be destroyed by that?"

Hiding the emotions Christine’s question brought forth, Ororo tried to smile.
“Do not think like that, my child. They will return,” she replied, trying to convince herself as much as Christine. “I have a few choice words for Logan upon his return.”
He will come back. He has to…

"Same here," she said quietly. She looked up at Ororo and smiled slightly. "You love him, don't you?" She had asked the question in the most innocent tones as possible.

Ororo looked at Christine in shock.
Love? Where did that come from?
“Why would you think that?” she asked, her voice far from the calm tone it usually carried. “Logan is my oldest, dearest friend. That is all.”
But is it? It would seem there is more to it, on his side at least. The look in his eyes in the Danger Room. And again in my doorway. It seemed quite clear. But what of my own feelings?
“Besides, at a time like this, who has the time to focus on… anything but this mechanical threat?” Storm continued, in an attempt to change the subject.

Christine didn't answer at first, just gave a soft, hidden smile. "If you say so, but I've seen the looks you've given each other. They so scream love."

“And since when did you become the expert?” Ororo asked, laughing lightly. Looking back out the window, her smile fell.
“You may not be entirely wrong,” she said quietly. “Just recently, I have seen these looks as well, coming from Logan.”
She contemplated telling Christine about the Danger Room session, but decided against it. That was a memory she did not wish to share. It was bad enough that Gambit had interrupted. But what if he hadn’t? Would the day have turned out completely different? Would Logan be home now, instead of off on this crazy mission?
“I do not know when it started, but today…” she trailed off, speaking more to herself than to Christine.

"He'll come back," Christine whispered. "He just has to." She curled up closer to Ororo and looked up at her. "I think he loves you, Mom. I really think he does."
