Ororo had her own thoughts on the depth of Logan’s feelings for her. But to hear them actually voiced aloud by another seemed to solidify them. Wrapping her arms around the small girl in a loose embrace, she closed her eyes once more.
“I believe you are right,” she whispered, the statement barely audible.
Why now? Why during all this? And why did we have to have that stupid fight? I wish we had had chance to talk…

Christine smiled up at Ororo, and nestled close. "Mom.. do you approve of my relationship with Kurt?" she asked quietly. She had been worried that her foster parents wouldn't approve.

“Kurt is a fine young man, and I am sure his intentions are honorable,” Ororo replied, smiling reassuringly at Christine. “You are old enough to make your own decisions now, as hard as that may be for Logan to accept”
Running a hand through her own white tresses, Storm vaguely wondered what time it was.
“Besides, the heart cannot choose whom it chooses to hold.”
Christine smiled and curled up close. "I love Kurt with everything I am, Mom," she whispered. "Tho, Scott wasn't thrilled with the idea of us having a psychic rapport.." She blushed slightly at the mention - that was the second time she mentioned it. 'Please don't think we're too young to have one..'

“That is a big step, Christine,” Storm replied, fixing the girl with a stern glance.
I cannot deal with this right now. How can I offer sound advice, when my own emotions are so unclear?
Sitting up straight, she pulled out of the loose embrace.
“It is quite late. Why don’t you get some sleep? You look exhausted,” Ororo said, trying to smile. In truth, she was beginning to feel the weight of everything, and needed to be alone.

"I told him what it entailed - told him I wouldn't be upset if he said no. He said yes," she said quietly. "He said that we needed everything we could get to keep us sane and strong." She rose from her spot and gave Ororo a kiss on the forehead. "Good night, Mom.."

“Good night, my child,” Storm said quietly, as Christine left the room. Turning her eyes once more to the window, she sighed deeply.
“He said that we needed everything we could get to keep us sane and strong."
Her eyebrows knitted together as she contemplated this sentence.
Such words of wisdom from one so young. But he is right. Maybe I am going about this completely wrong. Maybe refusing to deal with my emotions, in favor of focusing solely on the impending threat is not wise. Our feelings are what make us human. By refusing to acknowledge them, am I doing more damage than good?
Reaching out for the cushion on the other end of the seat, Ororo hugged it tightly to her chest.
But I have been alone for so long… am I ready to face the fact that love may have been right under my nose this whole time? But what if I do give into my emotions, and it does not work out? I could not bear to lose my best friend.
Her blue eyes shining with unshed tears, Storm felt a small smile tug at her mouth.
“Life is full of risks, love being one of the biggest ones…” she whispered to herself, before a comfortable silence became her only companion.
