She smiled gently. "Thanks," she whispered, and kissed him on his cheek. "You and Ororo are the parents I never had - and I want nothing to happen to you. I'm scared that if I go to fight D'Ken... that I'll never see you again," she managed to say before breaking into a worse case of tears.

Logan just brushed her hair back and wiped a tear away with his thumb. Then as the gravity of what she was saying struck him he cleared his throat and looked around nervously. It hit just a little too close for comfort to him. He guarded his thoughts carefully and avoided eye contact. His feelings for 'Ro was something that he wasn't sure he was even ready to face.
"Well, kiddo." He said with a lump in his throat. "We care about you. And I ain't goin nowhere. I'm here for ya." I need to figure out what's goin on in my own heart. Parents? Me and 'Ro? What zactly is Chris sayin?
"You-uh. You talked to 'Ro about-you talked to her lately?"

Christine shook her head no. "Haven't," she whispered softly. "Haven't had a chance. I've been run ragged so I haven't had a chance to talk to anyone that much."

Logan nodded. "Know whatcha mean there." He wiped away the rest of her tears and breathed a sigh of relief. There's no time to worry about this kinda foolishness right now anyway. I juss need ta forget all this nonsense.
"We're gonna be fine kiddo. But I don't want you goin off tryin to fight some Don Key or whatever. I'll show YOU a galactic incident if I hear of ya doin that!"

"Didn't you once tell me you can't run from your past or your destiny?" she asked softly. "If this is my destiny... Dad, I don't want blood on my hands if I don't do what I'm supposed to do."

He just looked at her a minute before nodding slowly. The words she spoke were filled with honor, and they were right. "If yer sure that this is what you need ta be doin, if yer sure this is your destiny-then I am with you on this Christine." The words were difficult in coming out, but he had said that to her, and he meant it still-even when it was in conflict with his feelings.
"But if you ain't sure then don't do it!"

"I promise, Dad, I promise," she said softly. She smiled slightly. "I promise to make you proud of me, Daddy. I promise."

"You always have." Logan said to her. "Now I better git back in there and make sure 'Ro don't go zappin that space chick with lightning or nuthin. She ain't as patient and understandin as I am." He leaned in and whispered the last part. "She can have a fiery temper sometimes. I gotta be there to make sure she don't fly off the handle."

Christine giggled softly, feeling like it was back to the old days when she was still ten and still a very junior member of the X-team.
"Okay," she grinned.
